Guestbook comments from the owner

You can tell how much Lola loves this place.

We immediately noticed the simple décor and now clean everything was. The sheets were freshly washed and smelled so good.

We unpacked and explored the property.

After a quiet family dinner we all went into the hot tub and just looked at the beautiful sky and all the spectacular stars. We noticed a very bright star over the back of the property and think it may be a planet (Venus).

I set the alarm for 4:00 a.m. hoping to see a (predicted) snowfall, but sad to say we will have to wait to our next visit.

After a restful sleep, we woke and drank coffee on the deck. We watched all the birds by the little pond as they came to get their winter snacks.

We do not want to go back to the hustle and bustle of the city, but we look forward to visiting again.

Restore, Recharge, and Repair

  • 5 of 5

I remember the day that Jan charged me with the task of finding a perfect getaway. It had to be peaceful, away from TV and the like, convenient, affordable, comfortable, and dog friendly. Where was I ever going to find such a place? I searched for days and days on the Internet, and finally stumbled on Green Valley. We booked three nights the first time. When we were driving down the lane toward the cottages for the first time, Jan was ecstatic. It exceeded what she was looking for! Pepper, the black lab, loved the lake. Sara, the beagle mix, simply loved being there. Our new rescue, Tinker the yorkie, was a bit afraid at first, since he had been dumped in the woods. But he came to love this place as well. All the things you read about in the other reviews are absolutely true, and then some. All you need to bring is your food, your clothes, and your personal toiletries. The accommodations are wonderful, the beds are comfy, and the peace is unbelievable. We are up to a week at a time now, and thinking about more. One last point -- everyone we have met there, usually out walking their dogs as well, has been to Green Valley multiple times. Once you find this place, you never let it get away.

Best. Stay. EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to Green Valley and our second stay in is absolutely wonderful. Everything is clean and neat and ready for you to relax and unwind! We take our two dogs there and they can romp and play endless games of fetch in the front meadow. It is private and quiet. The lake isn't far, and the fishing is fine!! Hiking trails abound and there is wildlife like you would not believe. We started cataloguing the wildlife we saw...over 30 DIFFERENT types of birds, fish, turtles, frogs, fish, etc. So far we have been in spring and fall and each season carries it's own charms. We have never been any place like Green Valley - and now that we have been - we are having trouble going any where else! We thought about renting a house on the Outer Banks as an example - but we are so attached to this hide away in the woods, that we dismissed the thought almost immediately. Huge thank you to the owners of this property for sharing their piece of paradise!

Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

There was only one bad thing about our trip to Excelsior and that was ...... the fact that we had to leave. The house was impeccably clean, and felt like I was walking into my own little country cabin that was made just for us. We made use of the newly renovated kitchen, and even made some nice grilled chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill outside. Having a washing machine and dryer was also great. Our Great Dane Mortimer had such a blast running around the entire property and even down by the lake. He couldn't tell it was frozen over and ran right onto the ice and fell through, but he made it out ok! He didn't seem to care at all, and we just laughed. We did a little hiking, and spent many a minute in the hot tub out back. I couldn't help but also laugh at those greedy birds on the front porch. I filled that feeder with seed at 7am and by 11am those birds has eaten every single seed. Ha ha .... I imagine there are going to be some fat birds flying very low to the ground for a few days. All in all, it was a great trip and couldn't have asked for a better house or amenities. Excelsior was top notch and I want to thank Lola for opening up her home to us. We have now deemed this "our place" and hope to come back more in the future to experience it when everything is in bloom. I can see us making a lot of memories in this wonderful place and cant wait to come back! Mortimer also gives it a 4 paw rating.

Unplug and remember the simple quality of life

  • 5 of 5

Our family (including our four legged family) have stayed at Green Valley many times. We enjoy this long weekend in the fall for an unplug (TV for DVD's is available) family time. The Excelsior has everything you could need except food and personal items. Lola takes the time to make each cabin warm and inviting. Although there are things to do outside of Green Valley, we find that spending the time together as a family is something we rarely have the opportunity to do and the reason we enjoy the valley so. We cook together, bring puzzles, board games and movies. There are plenty of trails to walk, streams to wade in , the lake to paddle boat, canoe and fish in. There are rabbits, squirrels, deer in the field and beautiful birds to watch at the feeders on the deck. There is the hot tub directly out the back door which is wonderful any time of day, but especially as night falls and the stars come out. Here in the valley this is a site like you can not image in any city sky.

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much, Terry, for taking time to write a review on your stay at Excelsior Cottage. I love the open meadow, the old barn and wagon shed at Excelsior Cottage. There's a lot of history to this property...and aren't the old log beams in the cottage amazing? I'd love to know their origin. All spring and summer there's something blooming in the flower gardens. I'm looking forward to having you return to experience the beauty of Excelsior Cottage in every season. Thanks again for being such wonderful guests. Lola

The best place to soothe your soul

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed previously at Green Valley in the other lovely cottages, but Excelsior is a very special place. We loved the peace and quiet, the hot tub, reading on the deck, hiking the wonderful trails and just relaxing. Though the cottage is equipped with everything you need (except food) we also ventured out to Hancock to Buddy Lou's (wonderful atmosphere and food) and the Belle Grove Grocery (local color and good food). If you are an antique/thrift store person, Hancock has a lot to offer for lazy shopping. What we enjoy most about Green Valley is refreshing our souls with the beautiful surroundings and our dogs. We recommend it to everyone.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Bruce and Mary Ann, for once again choosing Green Valley, and for taking time to tell others about your stay. Yes, I think Excelsior Cottage and the old farm buildings are pretty special, too. I enjoy watching the deer in the meadow, and often the blue heron roosts on the barn roof. I look forward to having you return again and again. Wishing you all the best during this holiday season. Lola

Amazing Pet Friendly Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our two dogs stayed at the Excelsior Cottage at Green Valley and it was amazing. We hiked, we fished, we hung out in the hot tub and star gazed. Every morning we had coffee on the front porch and we're joined by black capped chikadees and many other birds. Just after dusk we watched as numerous deer crossed the meadow in the front yard. We found wood turtles in the creek every day. Pack your bags, the Off and Frontline your dogs and plan on AT LEAST a five night stay at the amazing Green Valley. :-)
