About Shannon French

When I was 27 years old, I decided to sell real estate. Shortly after at the age of 29, I decided to open my own brokerage, Southern Trade Realty (Oct. 2006 so you do the math to see how old I am now)! I quickly learned to combine my passion for designing, creating and decorating to another level. I started to invest in real estate at a very young age, and I am still very passionate about it. I really enjoy getting to know my guests and proud to say I now have repeat buisness. I concentrate on making sure my guests are happy and I take pride in the comfort of my properties and of course, the decor has to be just right. Feel free to call me Shannon 804-815-1912.

Shannon French purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Shannon French chose Tidewater & Hampton Roads

This area is where I personally grew up. I remember the days on the river at a very young age. I fished, crabbed, learned how to swim, relax, kayak, explore and I am still enjoying all of this today with my family and friends.

What makes this cottage unique

Pictures cannot even describe this property (many of our guests say this once they arrive). It is one of the most serene places to be. Listening to the waves crash up against the rocks at night, taking a nap in the hammock on a warm summer afternoon, to watching the Osprey on the river, there is not a better place to enjoy nature at it's best. It is all at your fingertips.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the pleasant and memorable stay. We love your cozy cottage. Our second stay is as good experience as the first one. See you next year. Happy New Year!

We will be back! Pictures don't do it justice, beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a girl's weekend here and this property was everything we hoped it would be!! From the second I opened the car door and smelled that familiar coastal smell, my stress level dropped to 0. I had to work a few more hours and the internet password was easy to find and worked great. Settled myself into one of the cozy chairs on the screened in porch and enjoyed the fresh air and view. Most relaxing time working I've ever had! The home was beautiful and everything we needed was easy to find. The master bathroom was phenomenal with a wonderful shower. I was very pleased that the master bed was the same Temperpedic I have at home so it was very comfortable! Waking up to the pink and orange sunrise was incredible.

We spent one day in Williamsburg and one in Yorktown, less than hour drives. We were anxious to come back to the house though because we just wanted to relax near the water. We used the provided kayaks to enjoy some time on the water. We spent the evenings sitting on the porch listening to the river and playing games.

Overall, it was everything we wanted, relaxing and stress free! We will definitely make this an annual trip! Thank you, Shannon, for allowing us to stay here and enjoy such a beautiful place!!

Views-Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect little cottage. The construction and décor is of the top quality. The views are just amazing. Everything was super clean and well maintained. This was a mini reunion for five girls that graduated high school together. We are in our 60's and look for a place to gather yearly that is relaxing and that we feel safe, yet close enough to tour interesting attractions of the area. We felt so at home in top luxury. We visited many attractions in the area-Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, etc. We found some interesting antiques as well. All were a short drive and then we would come home to our own little private paradise. We spend many hours on the screened porch enjoying the water view. The sound of the water was so relaxing as we thought back to our younger days and all the memories we share. We also graduated from the same elementary school and our mothers were friends. We are truly blessed to have each other and finding a perfect place to visit each summer is so important. We were more than pleased with Gloucester. So much local history. It felt amazing to stay right on the shores where Pocahontas might have lived. I have my family tree documented all the way back to Pocahontas so this meant so much to me. There are no window treatment throughout the cottage as it is not needed. It is so private and you are just one with nature. I loved that views were not obstructed and the wide open concept with total privacy. We enjoyed taking our coffee and setting on the docks. We visited the local country grocery and Olivia's a couple of times. Shannon is well known and respected in the community-when ask where we were staying all we had to say is part of the address and they would just smile and say you are staying at Shannon's cottage, aren't you? I enjoyed the country eggs I bought from her son John. The family are there if you need them but absolutely let you have your privacy as well. We called for help getting the TV on and their son John came within minutes. He was such a respectful young man and we enjoyed talking to him about the area. Several of us are retired school teachers. Shannon, you have a very well mannered son. I taught 7th. grade for 27 years and I immediately guessed he was about that age. What a little entrepreneur he is-trying to get us to go on his "Fishing Charter". He presented his well designed brochure and we just loved it. What a wonderful week we all enjoyed at your cottage.

Pure heaven on earth!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This may be the 1st vacation in my life where I could have just stayed at "home". The views from every room are just breathtaking. Even the drive to the house is a little piece of heaven. I can not provide one negative comment other than I had to leave. My husband, son, granddaughter and girlfriend spent the 4th of July here and not one of us wanted to leave. I hope to return again (maybe in the fall next time). You absolutely can not go wrong when choosing to stay here.

A wonderful house in a wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5

We selected 'Clearview' based on the five star reviews on the 'HomeAway' website and were not disappointed and spent an excellent week using 'Clearview' as our base to explore the area.

The house is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and was clean and well presented. We felt completely at home and particularly enjoyed seeing the full moon on the water at night and waking up to panoramic view from the bedroom in the morning. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony in the morning and iced tea on the dock in an afternoon. The new seats on the dock are a great place to watch the Osprey pair on their nest.

We also enjoyed the chance to renew our canoeing 'skills' in very safe water.

We can recommend visits to Gloucester Court House, an interesting small town with good shopping. Further afield we found Jamestown and Yorktown well worth a visit. We also visited the 'Nauticus' museum and USS Wisconsin in Norfolk (take the Combo ticket and enjoy the cruise past the naval warships, including four carriers)

Should we ever return to this area we would certainly try to book 'Clearview' again.

I have just returned home after a delightful eight night stay at CLEARVIEW. I invited my parents to join me to celebrate my Father's 73rd birthday and my parents 53rd wedding anniversary. WOW, what a hidden gem of a property. I'm convinced that when you look up relaxation in the dictionary a lovely image of this wonderful little cottage appears. As you approach the cottage the amazing water views immediately set the tone for what will be a fabulous visit. Ever so quaintly decorated and a kitchen well equipped for any dinner party with family and friends. Gosh, the grill, the hot tub, outside waterside dining all made for great moments with my parents. The private pier was amazing. All you need is a chair and an icy "libation" to enjoy the constant breeze from the bay and the view that seems to never end. The screened in porch was perfect for day time lounging and night time chats without the threat of a coastal bug ruining the moment ! AHHH, the daily sounds of the waves crashing against the stone wall only added to the serenity. The small beach is amazing . Pull up a chair, grab a kayak, and enjoy the water !!! Shannon, our host for the week was AWESOME !!! She was always available to answer any questions and shared interesting trivia about the area. We had many wonderful conversations with Shannon as we flagged her down while she was walking around. Great sense of humor....we all loved the candid chats ! Thank you Shannon. Remember, you see the cottage as your little piece of heaven.....and I see it as the entire pie !!! Truly wonderful !! We will definitely return. I have already shared the photos with friends who are ready to experience CLEARVIEW ! Looking at my calendar now !!!
