About Shannon French

When I was 27 years old, I decided to sell real estate. Shortly after at the age of 29, I decided to open my own brokerage, Southern Trade Realty (Oct. 2006 so you do the math to see how old I am now)! I quickly learned to combine my passion for designing, creating and decorating to another level. I started to invest in real estate at a very young age, and I am still very passionate about it. I really enjoy getting to know my guests and proud to say I now have repeat buisness. I concentrate on making sure my guests are happy and I take pride in the comfort of my properties and of course, the decor has to be just right. Feel free to call me Shannon 804-815-1912.

Why Shannon French chose Williamsburg

This area is where I personally grew up. I remember the days on the river at a very young age. I fished, crabbed, learned how to swim, relax, kayak, explore and I am still enjoying all of this today with my family and friends.

What makes this cottage unique

Pictures cannot even describe this property (many of our guests say this once they arrive). It is one of the most serene places to be. Listening to the waves crash up against the rocks at night, taking a nap in the hammock on a warm summer afternoon, to watching the Osprey on the river, there is not a better place to enjoy nature at it's best. It is all at your fingertips.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the pleasant and memorable stay. We love your cozy cottage. Our second stay is as good experience as the first one. See you next year. Happy New Year!

Scenic Getaway with Lovely Views

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is beautiful, the views are amazing, and the place is very relaxing in general. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. It was misty and rainy when we went so we didn't take full advantage of all of the amenities, such as canoes and kayaks, but we sure will on our next visit. A weekend just wasn't long enough! We look forward to staying for longer during our next visit.

Quiet riverside oasis

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this beautiful home on the Ware River during an long fall break weekend with our 2 children and with one set of grandparents. The decor and finishes are lovely, the view is unbeatable, and the setting serene. Our vacation plan was to find a vacation rental for our group of 6 that allowed for more downtime together than bouncing between 2 hotel rooms, as well as seeing the sights in the historic triangle of Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown.

Pros for this rental: It is just beautiful! You feel like you are in your own little world right on the river. You can hear the waves at night, watch the sunrise from the master or from the sunporch, and can fish and kayak right from the dock/yard. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with coffee (and a Keurig--yay!), as well as a grill that we did not use. The small town of Gloucester is lovely and has several shops and antique stores, and we ate a really good restaurant called Olivia's.

Cons for this rental: It was further from Williamsburg than I anticipated. Depending on traffic, it was about a 45-50 minute commute, with a $2 toll bridge on the quickest route (toll only charged one-way). It looks closer on the map to me (though I am no cartographer), but I suspect the water and geography limit the routes into Willliamsburg from Gloucester. That really is the only con for me. Once we reallized the distance, we just planned our days accordingly and did all we cared to do in town before coming back to the cottage.

Overall, I still feel this rental deserves 5 stars. It is clearly well cared for and would make a perfect getaway cottage if you love the water and are looking for a place of rest and renewal. I can see it as a place for a girls' getaway for up to 4 (5 or 6 if you don't mind using a pullout bed or air mattress). It was perfect for our family of 4 (we all stayed in the large master together) and the grandparents stayed in the second bedroom on the main level.

A Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

We've been traveling through VRBO for almost 10 years now. We've never had a horrible place and have enjoyed each accommodation. However, we always kept looking for that one right place that meets every wish and need. After staying at this property, we are now abandoning that search.

What a treasure this place is! Quiet. Clean. Peaceful. We saw eagles and egrets, blue herons and dolphins, amazing sunrises and sunsets. I'm hesitant to write such a great review, because we want the place all to ourselves with no booking conflicts! If only the location was closer to us so the drive wasn't as long!

If you are looking for a place to regroup and recharge from the stresses of life, this is the place. Look no further!

We will be back! Pictures don't do it justice, beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a girl's weekend here and this property was everything we hoped it would be!! From the second I opened the car door and smelled that familiar coastal smell, my stress level dropped to 0. I had to work a few more hours and the internet password was easy to find and worked great. Settled myself into one of the cozy chairs on the screened in porch and enjoyed the fresh air and view. Most relaxing time working I've ever had! The home was beautiful and everything we needed was easy to find. The master bathroom was phenomenal with a wonderful shower. I was very pleased that the master bed was the same Temperpedic I have at home so it was very comfortable! Waking up to the pink and orange sunrise was incredible.

We spent one day in Williamsburg and one in Yorktown, less than hour drives. We were anxious to come back to the house though because we just wanted to relax near the water. We used the provided kayaks to enjoy some time on the water. We spent the evenings sitting on the porch listening to the river and playing games.

Overall, it was everything we wanted, relaxing and stress free! We will definitely make this an annual trip! Thank you, Shannon, for allowing us to stay here and enjoy such a beautiful place!!

Views-Beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect little cottage. The construction and décor is of the top quality. The views are just amazing. Everything was super clean and well maintained. This was a mini reunion for five girls that graduated high school together. We are in our 60's and look for a place to gather yearly that is relaxing and that we feel safe, yet close enough to tour interesting attractions of the area. We felt so at home in top luxury. We visited many attractions in the area-Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, etc. We found some interesting antiques as well. All were a short drive and then we would come home to our own little private paradise. We spend many hours on the screened porch enjoying the water view. The sound of the water was so relaxing as we thought back to our younger days and all the memories we share. We also graduated from the same elementary school and our mothers were friends. We are truly blessed to have each other and finding a perfect place to visit each summer is so important. We were more than pleased with Gloucester. So much local history. It felt amazing to stay right on the shores where Pocahontas might have lived. I have my family tree documented all the way back to Pocahontas so this meant so much to me. There are no window treatment throughout the cottage as it is not needed. It is so private and you are just one with nature. I loved that views were not obstructed and the wide open concept with total privacy. We enjoyed taking our coffee and setting on the docks. We visited the local country grocery and Olivia's a couple of times. Shannon is well known and respected in the community-when ask where we were staying all we had to say is part of the address and they would just smile and say you are staying at Shannon's cottage, aren't you? I enjoyed the country eggs I bought from her son John. The family are there if you need them but absolutely let you have your privacy as well. We called for help getting the TV on and their son John came within minutes. He was such a respectful young man and we enjoyed talking to him about the area. Several of us are retired school teachers. Shannon, you have a very well mannered son. I taught 7th. grade for 27 years and I immediately guessed he was about that age. What a little entrepreneur he is-trying to get us to go on his "Fishing Charter". He presented his well designed brochure and we just loved it. What a wonderful week we all enjoyed at your cottage.
