Why Teri Baer chose Chesapeake Bay

For years we crossed the Choptank River bridge and drove through Cambridge on our way to vacations in Ocean City and were intrigued by its quaintness. We spent a few long weekends exploring the area, decided to purchase a home, and found our property on Jenkins Creek. We've decided to share our home as a vacation property. We hope you enjoy our home and the Cambridge area as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

Our home is located at the end of Jenkins Creek Road overlooking the water and only several minutes from downtown Cambridge with its unique shops and restaurants. Minimal local traffic make walking, jogging, and bike riding safe and pleasurable. The school and city park at the town end of Jenkins Creek Road (1 1/4 miles away) have tennis and basketball courts, a baseball diamond, play areas for kids, and views of the Choptank river. Great Marsh Park, with its public boat launch, fishing docks, and picnic areas is only about 2 miles away. Also, because of our location, you can explore the Cambridge area without the hassle of the beach traffic on Route 50.

Perfect House in a Beautiful Spot

  • 5 of 5

We have rented many vacation houses over the years and this is by far our favorite. The house itself is beautiful. The kitchen is very modern and extremely well-equipped (better than our kitchen at home!) Th living room is spacious and comfortable. The beds were all very comfortable. The location was spectacular. We woke up early in the mornings to watch the osprey and egrets flying around the creek. We went out in the canoes in the morning which was just a delight. The sunsets were a highlight of our stay -- they were incredibly beautiful and sitting on the dock couldn't be more peaceful. We explored the area some, including a trip to Hooper's Island which is about a half hour to 45 minutes away. We went to Old Salty's restaurant on the island and had some of the freshest seafood we've had in a long time. It was a beautiful drive and a great way to spend a day. we also went to the wildlife refuge twice and saw several eagles, an otter and lots of great blue heron. The pool was icing on the cake. I ended up spraining my ankle badly about mid-way through our vacation and was glad I was in such a pretty place. I spent the last part of the week sitting by the pool overlooking the creek and enjoying the peacefulness of it all. We definitely plan to return!

Baer Necessities was all we needed.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year at this great location. Everything you could possibly need was here for us. All we need is a cook! You can read the amenities list to see that everything was thought of to make our stay comfortable and fun. If you are looking for quiet and comfortable, this is the place. We rode bikes into town every day, fished, swam, enjoyed family and friends, ate great crabs, the bugs were not bad, the wildlife (osprey) were amazing to watch and generally were able to "leave it all back in Carroll County" . The only hard part was leaving. Thanks for a great place to vacation!

Four Visits In Four Years, Never Disappointed

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th stay at Baer Necessities. Our family wouldn't think of renting anywhere else. The house is as clean as you would keep your own home. The yard is beautifully landscaped. The pool is clean and the perfect size. The dock is ideal. Our teenage son is an avid crabber and fisherman, and he is never bored here. My husband, too, fished off the dock every morning while watching the sun come up. We swam every afternoon and took the bikes out for a spin (complete with helmets!). There was everything we needed for steaming up our fresh-caught crabs and picking them under the patio, in the shade -- a perfect Maryland pastime.

During our stay this year, we celebrated our son's 16th birthday. Every year, I bake him his favorite cake. Nothing had to change this year. Baer Necessities is as well-appointed as my own kitchen. I brought my ingredients, but everything right down to the mixer, cake pan, and even a cake pedestal was all there for the using. Actually, if I am honest, BN has a nicer and newer oven than my own, and I do believe the cake turned out even better here!

There are plenty of local shops and restaurants for people like me, who can't fish all day, every day. Little jaunts here and there, in the heat of the afternoon, and ending with a nice meal out somewhere on the water; plenty of good restaurants to choose from.

The owners of Baer Necessities seem to take personal pride in their guests' enjoyment. They concern themselves with all the details that will be important for your stay, but also give you your space to relax and enjoy. One year, after a strong wind storm, a large tree limb had come down and was partially blocking the driveway. We notified the owners, and they had a tree service there to remove it within the hour, and we weren't inconvenienced in any way. Things like this make us feel certain that each stay here will be peaceful and relaxing. We're already looking forward to next year. Thanks, Baer Necessities!

Home Away from Home at Baer Necessities

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time staying at the lovely home. It was in a perfect location and had all the amenities one would want! I appreciated all the little details that were thought of to make sure that we had everything we needed. The kitchen was my favorite and if I had more time there I would have taken advantage of all the cooking tools! However, we did use the pool, pink pong table and comfy chairs to read good books! The only thing that was a challenge (and could have been us), was access to internet. Both my husband and I could not get into it but was able to leverage our hotspots. But, it truly helped to 'unplug' on vacation:) Looking forward to future stays!!!

Another great stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We returned again to Baer Necessities after having such a great time last year. And no surprise to us, it was another great trip! The house was so clean and comfortable. The view of the water from the back of the house is unbelievably gorgeous (wish I could attach pictures but even those don't do it proper justice). The kids enjoyed the pool, the canoes, and the bikes. We played ping pong and had a family game of corn hole with the game set the owner provided. The house is also in one of the best locations in Cambridge! Far enough out of the way to feel away from it all and relaxed, yet close enough to town to pick up food or hit one of the local restaurants. The house has a new kitchen this year which is beautiful! Nice job! Finally, I do have to say the the owner (Teri) is fabulous! She is very responsive and helpful. I think she was as excited for us to be there as we were! We will definitely be back.

Perfect for Eagleman races

  • 5 of 5

This house was ideal for a nice relaxing vacation during the triathlon races. The pool was great to cool off and the creek provided endless bird watching opportunities. Everything on the property is nicely maintained and the quiet setting was great for tuning out the rest of the world. The owners were extremely helpful and very easy to communicate with.
