About Michael Ho

I am fourth generation from Mount Desert island. My Grandfather Loren Kimball ran the Kimball House hotel in Northeast harbor where my mother still runs and ownes the Kimball Shops on main street. After living many years from away from Maine I made the move to come back with my family to be near my folks.

Michael Ho purchased this house in 2010

Why Michael Ho chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

My folks own the camp right next to this house so growing up I spent my summers here playing all around where this house now sits. This land was passed down to me from my grandfather. He built the first camp on long pond.

What makes this house unique

The main thing for me is there are no moter boats allowed on the section of water in front of the house only paddle boats. This section of the lake is a protected wetland and wildbird habitat. Eagles, loons and ducks nest in this area. This also made it very hard to build here. So its very relaxing and not busy with boats and people. The house is one of the last homes on the end of the road. There are laws now that will not allow any more building in this area. It is very priveate and quiet area.

Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

In my opinion, he photos and description of this house don't match the reality. The house was clean but very basic and not fully appointed...i.e. no dish towels, hair dryer, lettuce spinner, extra sheets, towels, etc. And it's not a place that's conducive to people sitting around and visiting together as the only and main sitting room was small.

The biggest issue that our group of 6 had was that there's no place to go out from around the house and one looks out on nothing. The yard is neither natural or taken care of; it's just sort of an unmaintained, choppy piece of land. There's not a view of 'the lake.' Not having a nice place around the house did push us out to do very fun things in the park like hike and bike and explore.

Quiet, surrounded by trees, loon calls

  • 3 of 5

House was light and airy with nice great room.

We received no information on how to get in and searched all over to find the key. There was one partial roll of paper towels and no kitchen towels, no spare linens. Batteries in tv remotes were dead with no spares

There were no ice trays but owner fedexed some

Great for Large Group!

  • 5 of 5

My brother's family and my family stayed at the Lake House on Long Pond for a week in August. We had 9 people and the house was perfect for us! Beds were very comfortable and the quiet secluded location was great for sleeping with the windows open. Kids LOVED swimming in the lake and using the canoe and kayak - we hadn't planned on swimming as much as we did! We also loved being able to get out of Bar Harbor and the park each day - both are very crowded and it was nice to feel like we left the "mayhem" of the crowds each day to relax back in the house. Privacy and seclusion were awesome! The open floorplan was perfect for evening activities: kids could play games, read books or otherwise hang out each evening, together with the parents(!) and we didn't feel crowded. Mike, the owner, also gave us a bunch of great ideas on things to see/avoid before we came, which really helped us make the most of our time in Acadia. Great place and highly recommended!

Great home for extended family stay

  • 5 of 5

The house worked out great for our family reunion (six adults and two children). Great layout for privacy with multiple levels, open floor plan, decks, and plentiful bedroom and baths. Beautiful wooded setting on pond. We were able to use the canoe, too! Location was easily accessible for hiking, beach, and dining. Mike, the owner, was a great resource and provided our family with the setting for a memorable vacation in Maine. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful house, great rental.

  • 5 of 5

Went up for a wedding on Mt Desert and rented from Michael with fellow friends of the groom. The house is awesome - tons of beds and enough privacy for the couples in the party to get their own rooms and space. Great kitchen and open living room/porch. The canoes/kayak were a blast and exploring long pond was really beautiful! It's easy to get places from here and it's very central on the island with easy access to both Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and the main Acadia park.

It's really close to Atlantic Brewing Company/Mainely Meat BBQ which we'd highly recommend as a stop. Excellent BBQ (and I say that as someone who has eaten BBQ all over the South) and good beer!

The owner or manager was very easy to talk with and schedule with. We didn't have a single problem but if we did he was available and responsive. I think he lives down the road, but we did not see him (which is good). So absolutely no complaints here.

Overall, highly recommend this rental.

Perfect for large family!

  • 5 of 5

Great property on MDI. Minutes from Acadia and all activities, about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor. Secluded location provides a great rustic feel. Well equipped home for our party of 10 (6 adults 4 children). Owner was great and easy to work with. Not recommended for people with disabilities due to stairs.

Notes:
Between 1913 and 1940, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., financed and directed the construction of 57 miles of Carriage Roads for the use of hikers, bikers, horse riders, and horse-drawn carriages on the island. This diverse network of woodland “broken-stone” roads is free of motor vehicles. There are 45 miles of roads within Acadia National Park and some of these allow for cross-country skiing and limited snowmobiling. Granite was quarried from Mount Desert Island by the road crews for the needed road material and bridge facing. Landscapers tastefully utilized native vegetation such as ferns and wild blueberries. There are many locations such as Eagle Lake and Jordan Pond where you can park your vehicle and go for a walk on the roads. You may even choose to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through Wildwood Stables, an authorized vendor accessed from the Park Loop Road. For those who want to bring their own horse, stall rentals are available.
