About Michael Ho

I am fourth generation from Mount Desert island. My Grandfather Loren Kimball ran the Kimball House hotel in Northeast harbor where my mother still runs and ownes the Kimball Shops on main street. After living many years from away from Maine I made the move to come back with my family to be near my folks.

Michael Ho purchased this house in 2010

Why Michael Ho chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

My folks own the camp right next to this house so growing up I spent my summers here playing all around where this house now sits. This land was passed down to me from my grandfather. He built the first camp on long pond.

What makes this house unique

The main thing for me is there are no moter boats allowed on the section of water in front of the house only paddle boats. This section of the lake is a protected wetland and wildbird habitat. Eagles, loons and ducks nest in this area. This also made it very hard to build here. So its very relaxing and not busy with boats and people. The house is one of the last homes on the end of the road. There are laws now that will not allow any more building in this area. It is very priveate and quiet area.

Beautiful house, great rental.

  • 5 of 5

Went up for a wedding on Mt Desert and rented from Michael with fellow friends of the groom. The house is awesome - tons of beds and enough privacy for the couples in the party to get their own rooms and space. Great kitchen and open living room/porch. The canoes/kayak were a blast and exploring long pond was really beautiful! It's easy to get places from here and it's very central on the island with easy access to both Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor, and the main Acadia park.

It's really close to Atlantic Brewing Company/Mainely Meat BBQ which we'd highly recommend as a stop. Excellent BBQ (and I say that as someone who has eaten BBQ all over the South) and good beer!

The owner or manager was very easy to talk with and schedule with. We didn't have a single problem but if we did he was available and responsive. I think he lives down the road, but we did not see him (which is good). So absolutely no complaints here.

Overall, highly recommend this rental.

Perfect for large family!

  • 5 of 5

Great property on MDI. Minutes from Acadia and all activities, about 20 minutes from Bar Harbor. Secluded location provides a great rustic feel. Well equipped home for our party of 10 (6 adults 4 children). Owner was great and easy to work with. Not recommended for people with disabilities due to stairs.

Perfect place to stay on Mount Desert Island

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a few days on MDI. I had spotted Michael's rental on VRBO and it looked like it would be perfect for my wife and myself. Not being familiar with MDI, I wasn't sure how long it would take to get to various places on the island from this rental, but I think I can safely say, you can be most anywhere in 10 minutes. It's central location gives easy access to NE Harbor, SW Harbor, Bar Harbor, Acadia NP, etc. For example, it was less than 10 minutes for me to go into Bar Harbor for early breakfasts in the morning. The home itself is extremely clean and appears to be virtually new. It is built on three levels, with bedrooms on all three. We spent most of our time on the second level where the kitchen, living area, and outside deck are located. We spent a lot of time out on the deck, just enjoying the air, the woods, the pond. Interesting birds, chipmunks, and even a deer who hung around as if we weren't even there. The sound of the loons in the evening or early morning are sure to put a smile on your face. The beds were comfortable, in fact the whole place was comfortable. Michael gave us a lot of info on the canoe/kayak, but we didn't even try that or fishing. We stayed busy during the day seeing the island and then found ourselves out on the deck each evening, just enjoying the scenery and nature. While it was just the two of us, the house would easily accommodate more people. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly, so we were able to keep in touch with the world. And while we never turned on a TV set, I did see several televisions in different rooms. One nice thing: I didn't notice a clock anywhere...and when you are on vacation, that's not a bad thing. While there are other homes/cabins nearby, the woods mostly screen them so you feel like you are "out in the woods". It's a great place to stay and we will certainly look to rent from Michael again when we come back.

Awesome and fun experience

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Michaels property was fun and made the trip to Bar Harbor very relaxing. Everything in the property was in order. It was very clean with clean sheets etc. the property is located next to a lake with access to canoe. I will stay here again whenever we visit Acadia.

Only one drawback, the cell coverage was not good for Verizon phone but the wifi at home made up for the lack of cell coverage.

Highly recommend the property

Spacious and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

cant say enough what a great time we had here. The four bedroom four bath home gave our group of 7 plenty of space. The common areas were open and inviting with great views of the lake and forest. The beautiful decks and gas grill were a plus. We used the canoe for great views of the pond. A lot of fun. The close proximity to park trails made it easy to hike and come home for lunch. Definitely recommend this place and can't wait to come back!

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house along with another family in June 2015 (4 adults & 4 kids). The house is spacious and well layout and gave both families plenty of room and privacy. The house was well stocked with towels, sheets, laundry room, lots of kitchen utensils and even some spices (yea - because we forgot ours!). We loved being on the lake and fishing everyday in the canoe provided. We even saw a loon nesting right by the house and the daddy loon would be swimming around while we fished in the larger section of the lake! The house is on the quiet side of the island but still so close to everything. We loved hiking off of Long Pond at the Cliff Beach Park which is just a 10 minute drive from the house. Acadia National Park is only 15 min away and so so beautiful! Southwest Harbor is only a few minutes away with a large grocery store and yummy lobster pounds! My only recommendation is to bring lots of bug spray. Being on the lake did make it prone to mosquitoes! We loved our trip to Maine and this house made it super easy and a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day.

Between 1913 and 1940, John D. Rockefeller, Jr., financed and directed the construction of 57 miles of Carriage Roads for the use of hikers, bikers, horse riders, and horse-drawn carriages on the island. This diverse network of woodland “broken-stone” roads is free of motor vehicles. There are 45 miles of roads within Acadia National Park and some of these allow for cross-country skiing and limited snowmobiling. Granite was quarried from Mount Desert Island by the road crews for the needed road material and bridge facing. Landscapers tastefully utilized native vegetation such as ferns and wild blueberries. There are many locations such as Eagle Lake and Jordan Pond where you can park your vehicle and go for a walk on the roads. You may even choose to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through Wildwood Stables, an authorized vendor accessed from the Park Loop Road. For those who want to bring their own horse, stall rentals are available.
