Steve and Sharon love everything the mountains have to offer, and wanted to introduce their kids to the things they love, so they purchased a secluded lot in the mountains. Since then, they designed their own chalet, and with the help of local contractors, build the chalet of their dreams over the past few years. We hope our guests will have as much fun out here as we do.
Steve Lougheed purchased this chalet in 2004
Skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and back to skiing again
Private getaway with the best view in the valley
Thanks for the great weekend! The cabin is wonderful and we really enjoyed ourselves… We loved <the> clear directions, outstanding value, beautiful location, lots of bedding, comfortable and clean, <and>complimentary firewood was a big bonus, …the area attractions and travel guides, modern and cozy...great tv/ video equiptment for rainy days, nicely landscaped outside… Thanks again! We'll be booking again in the future!
We spent Christmas there with some family and friend. The location is nicely isolated without being in the middle of nowhere, the chalet itself is better than we expected based on the pictures and description and the owner was very helpful. Everything was well stocked (wood for the stove, dishes, towels, bed linens, extra chairs...) and the direction to the chalet as well as the stuff you "Need to know" was clearly explained before we arrived on site. This is definitively a place we'll remember for the next time we want to stay in Golden.
This is a very peaceful property, with no neighbours to speak of, and spectacular mountain views. The home is very enjoyable, and was in immaculate condition. Very important to us: the beds are comfortable! 20 min. from Golden, this place proved to be a great home base for exploring the area. Steve was also very accommodating.
We are a family of four with kids age 9 and 6 and love the mountains. We were looking for a "home base" for our week-long stay in the Canadian Rockies and found Kickinghaus through a German partner site of VRBO (fewo-direkt.de).
The chalet was exactly as we had imagined - lots of space for the kids to spread out and have their private space. Well furnished kitchen, great bath, clean, and a lot of little things that contributed to a positive experience. You can definitely tell that the owners are keeping up the place for their own use, rather than just renting it out at an investment.
The owner was very responsive answering some questions we had during our stay.
We did some nice things around the area - took the gondola/chair lift at Kicking Horse resort for a visit with Boo, the grizzly bear and some hiking etc.- and also explored the area National Parks - Yoho with Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls, Jasper with Icefields Parkway, Lake Louise etc.
Stayed there a month ago. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in the rockies. Everything is very well kept. Inside and out is beautiful. Everything you would ever need for a rocky mountain getaway.
My fiance and I stayed at the Kickinghaus as a starting point to explore the various hiking trails within Yoho national park. We found the Kickinghaus was an incredible chalet for unwinding after an adventurous day. The heated floors were especially helpful after trekking through the snow for hours on end. The Kickinghaus is perfectly immersed within nature such that individuals who enjoy nature watching need not travel far. We recommend this vacation spot for anyone who enjoys relaxing, adventure seeking, and becoming attuned with nature.
Me and four of my friends from Sweden stayed in the chalet for 35 days during the ski season. It was great! Better than anticipated, and bigger than we thought! Even though we had kind of a dry month (when speaking of snowfall) we definitely enjoyed our time in Kicking Hourse.
And the owner was very helpful via email when we encountered any problems (we didn't have phones with canadian numbers, if we did i'd think he'd be just as helpful over the phone).
Averall, a great experience! Recommended!
