Stunning oceanfront home and location with views, land, beach, tennis on estate

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 10 (2 queens, 4 twins,1 bunk)

Spectacular vacation home Big Driftwood and its equally spectacular location are true gems. The house is one of several on a large oceanfront old family estate on Davis Neck, Ipswich Bay, next to Annisquam, Gloucester, Mass. Set on the side of the hill, Big Driftwood overlooks Ipswich Bay and glorious sunsets. From the house there are paths (and road) leading to 2 beaches (one of soft white sand) and a pier just below the house. There are also 2 tennis courts and lots of fields, woods and rocky shore to roam, including a wild peninsula with path to the point. The beauty is indescribable. The variety of birds and wildlife is amazing.

Big Driftwood itself is modern, with spectacular sunset views over the ocean. Although it can sleep 10, it is also perfect for 1-2 people who can live entirely on the upstairs floor (which includes the living area as well as the master (queen) bedroom and bath). The living area (living, dining and kitchen) with fireplace, is spacious, high ceilinged, with skylights and glass sliding doors to deck, all of which look over the ocean. Downstairs there are 4 additional bedrooms and 2 baths. All have ocean views.

A lovely, soul inspiring opportunity! Available all year 'round.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Driftwood is the perfect beach house. The house is bright, spacious and immaculate with wrap-around ocean views. There are two beaches on the property, perfect for kayaking or water sports. Tennis courts are adjacent to the house, also with spectacular ocean views. The setting is great for quiet relaxing as well as for active sports. But perhaps best of all are the unbeatable sunset views.

We will definitely be back.

Stunning views and private beach access

  • 5 of 5

Amazing views, room to spread out, enjoyed exploring the private beach. Kids have great memories of a group of women teaching them how to 'clam' at low tide. We also saw lots of sanddollars and beach glass. A bugler treated us to taps at sundown every night (son play trumpet too). The porch was wonderful; we enjoyed it every morning and evening. Older but serviceable kitchen. Parking was tricky at times, as the lot is shared with 3 homes (and we had 2 SUVs and a van). Trash removal was also a little confusing. These are small quibbles. Overall a great trip. We travelled with Our family of 4 (kids 6/10) and three grandparents. The views are STUNNING. It's impossible not to relax. I'd book it again -- but I waited too long! That should say everything.

Big Drifftwood is ideal for those who love the sea and nature. the house is large, comfortable, well maintained and very well equipped. You feel immediately at home. The four of us had a great time and enjoyed every minute. More than anything, Bonnie is a very helpful person, what she did for us, we will never forget.

We rented this house for a long weekend serving as command central for my son's wedding in Rockport. There were many people coming and going all weekend, my son and his groomsmen staying Friday night and out of town relatives taking their place on Saturday. I also hosted a Sunday brunch for about 30. Everyone was in awe of the view from the large deck and every room in the house. The house itself was comfortable, homey and clean having an easy, open floor plan making family time and entertaining very enjoyable. The kitchen was very well stocked and equipped, it had everything we needed and more. If it wasn't enough to have such an inviting house to enjoy, the expansive surrounding estate has acres and acres of breathtaking oceanfront with great paths for hiking and exploring. Bonnie, the owner, is very congenial, hospitable and helpful. We feel that we had an extraordinary weekend there for a very reasonable rent and are already talking about returning next year when we can just enjoy it without all the events surrounding a wedding. Couldn't recommend it more, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful View!

  • 5 of 5

Bonnie was extremely accommodating and helpful in booking our weekend getaway! The house was beautiful and the view breathtaking. We spent so much time on the back terrace, just taking it in - the sunsets were incredible. The house is just a short walk to the beaches and fishing. We really had a fantastic time, thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home and we hope to come back again!

Owner's Response: Big Driftwood IS a great house, isn't it?! With all the glass, it's beautiful inside as well as out. From anywhere in the main living area (inclu. Living (w. fireplace), Dining and Kitchen in one high roofed pyramidal space) you can see almost all of Ipswich Bay, yet are only steps from the granite coast and 2 private beaches. It is glorious, any time of year!
