Camilla, your hostess, was once a teacher of history, English, and political science in Aspen. This circuitously led to the establishment of a very unique, specialty restaurant in the early 1970′s.
Picturesque and unusual, this restaurant was featured nationally in magazines and newspapers as advertisement for Aspen’s community and ambiance. Following the sale of this business were some years involved in Medieval and Renaissance art and designing silk clothing and jewelry in India and Hong Kong. International experience and a deep love for “adventure” in faraway places culminated in the development of Elephant and Associates – an adventure travel company specializing in Nile River trips on King Farouk’s old paddle boat.
African safaris, from camels to treks both in Kenya and Kashmir, and to remote regions like Ladakh, added immense learning. Scuba diving – the Red Sea being a favorite – biking in China and Europe and in the 90′s, a working partnership on a charter yacht in the Caribbean on board a 75 NZ sloop satiated some of the wonder lust. An infinity for diverse cultures, education, adventure, and love of people has settled into the spice, decor and “hominess” of CasaCamilla.
The properties are filled with original art and artifacts from around the world. This may not be an appropriate residence for families with children from age 1 1/2 to 18. Please call to discuss.

We love dogs, and they are welcome to stay so long as they are mellow.
This property is 3 to 15 minutes from all 4 Aspen ski areas. We are also near many bike trails as well as a bus stop. The property has a fishing island with a beach, fire pit and lounge chairs on the Roaring Fork River
Casa Camilla is a magical place unlike any other place we have stayed. The tropical guest house is absolutely amazing. It is beautifully furnished, quiet, and peaceful. We would have stayed for an entire month if we could have. The tranquil atmosphere of this incredible place can only be matched by its wonderful owner, Camilla. Ms. Camilla is the quintessential hostess. She is a lovely, intelligent woman who has traveled the world and is willing to share her stories and treasures with anyone who is interested. Our whole family absolutely loved her, and we can't wait to visit again next year!

Very nice setting on the river,, close to Aspen ,, Basalt,, Snowmass,,, very nice home setting,, thank you Camilla for your hospitality,,, see you again soon,,, Joe
This guest house is on beautiful grounds, on a quiet lane just up from the Snowmass turnoff and has easy access to the river. It features a lovely fenced yard and shares common space with the larger guest house, and two other apartments in the same structure (but with different entrances). Camilla was an extremely gracious, kind and accommodating hostess, making sure every bit of our stay was to our liking and we were appreciative of that. It is a fantastic place if you want to bring your dog.
We were disappointed there was no bath so it is not ideal for a small child and wish that this listing was more forthcoming about that (what home does not have a bathtub??) but only blame ourselves for not asking. We made-do for our two-week stay. But at such an exorbitant rental rate, we expected the dishware, pots and pans, and kitchen to be of fine quality, well equipped and modern and the master bed to be better than two twins pushed together. There were some simple repairs that needed to take place and we let the owners know.
Beware the cleaning fee. We spent all morning cleaning, doing dishes and starting laundry before we left to avoid excess fees and we were still charged five hours of cleaning for this little apartment. That untruth was our biggest disappointment.
From the moment we arrived at Casa-Camilla, the "welcome mat" was out. The Tropical Guesthouse was our home away from home for a month. The house is light, airy, with high ceilings and is tastefully decorated. The kitchen is a nice size and had all of the kitchen amenities we needed. The king sized bed was VERY comfortable and the clean mountain air coming in the open windows was the best. The grounds surrounding Camilla's properties are nothing less than fabulous. There are flowers and aspen trees and lush greenery everywhere you look. The Roaring Fork River runs along the back of her property. The front fountain/patio area is large and charming and serene--perfect for an evening cocktail while reading the Aspen Daily or working a crossword puzzle. We were just minutes away from Aspen, Carbondale, El Jebel, several biking/walking/jogging paths, shopping, and restaurants. Last and certainly NOT least is Camilla. She is a real pleasure! She knows how to give you your privacy, but is always available to take care of your needs, answer questions, or just plain help you. Rick is a hard-working man who can fix anything. This review would not be complete without mentioning Camilla's 2 four-legged companions--James Brown and Dulce. Two sweeter dogs do NOT exist. They stole our hearts. The Tropical Guesthouse provided us a truly unforgettable vacation and memories to last a lifetime. Sharing Camilla's piece of paradise with us was incredible.
My family and I (husband and beagle) decided to escape the August heat of Texas. We spent three weeks at Casa Camilla and it was everything we had hoped for and so much more. Casa Camilla is perfectly situated to give you the peacefulness of the country yet the convenience of being so close to downtown Aspen. The sound of the Roaring Fork River behind the house and the view of the stars at night could not be more spectacular.
The house is equipped from top to bottom with everything you have at your own home. There is no need to bring anything. It is comfortably furnish and very clean.
If you are looking for a place that is pet friend, don't look any further. Our beagle is our kid. Casa Camilla gives your pets the ability to enjoy the outdoors with you. It is fenced in and Camilla has two very friendly dogs that enjoy having company. James Brown and Dolce were very well behaved and played nicely with our beagle. He had the best time. We felt right at home.
We enjoyed our conversations with Camilla. She is a kind and very nice lady. We wish we had more time during our vacation to visit with her.
We will definitely be back next year!
We loved our stay at Camillas one bedroom property. We went to ski and found the location fine for that. The apartment is furnished beautifully, the bed is comfortable and kitchen perfect for those who feel like cooking. Camilla is gracious and accommodating and makes every attempt to insure a comfortable and peaceful stay.
Well, we came back for the second winter in a row, and spent another wonderful month in the Guest House. We’ve been skiing in Aspen for nearly 30 years and have stayed in lots of places around the area; this is our favorite. We love the serenity and the peacefulness of this riverside setting. It looks and feels remote, but is amazingly close to everything, including a bus stop.
The full moon through the skylight is such a treat! The space is beautifully decorated, with little touches of home (nice china and flatware, quality towels and linens, an array of kitchen spices, antiques, and books. It’s spacious, cheerful, airy, clean, quiet and just plain satisfactory. Our dog is made to feel very welcome (as are we), and he settles in just like it’s home.
I consider it a “find” beyond expectation. And getting to know Camilla, our landlord, has been a benefit we certainly did not expect! I almost hesitate to write a glowing review because we want this place all to ourselves. We’ll just have to plan farther ahead for next year, I guess. We haven’t seen it in the summer, but it must be extraordinary to watch the river form the large, shady yard.
