Mountain Lion, Bobcat and Bear! Oh My! You're not in Kansas anymore when you enter this Wilderness Lodge Retreat located in sunny Hartwell, Georgia. With over 30 'stuffed' animals, we can assure you this will be a rental you'll remember for years to come. You'll love the charm of this wooded lodge and especially the location on the lake just 1 mile from downtown Hartwell's shops and restaurants.
Imagine waking up with a hot cup of coffee and sitting in the cozy sunporch overlooking the lake. Watch as the heron spears her breakfast, the fish jump and the birds build their nests. Spend the day sunning yourself on the two story covered boat dock or relaxing in the shade on one of the many lounge chairs. You may bring along your own boat for docking or rent one at a nearby marina. Take a quiet kayak ride in the cove and search for the home of the resident beaver. We're minutes from the main channel and the deep water in our cove keeps us wet all summer long.
We have provided all of the necessities you'll require as well as much of the entertainment you'll desire for the whole family! A large recreation room provides hours of fun and enjoyment playing pool, ping pong and PS2 with our selection of games. If a football game or golf tournament is on the tube, watch it on one of our large screen (55', 70') TVs. Relax on one of the wood swings with a view of the water or soak in the hot tub with a glass of champagne. Have a festive family dinner around our farmhouse table or take a picnic to one of the many sandy shorelines on Lake Hartwell.
Bring your whole family for a vacation to remember on Lake Hartwell. Just don't feed the animals!

We are an outdoors family, loving to swim, hike, dirt bike ride, tube and enjoy the surrounding area. We've decided to share our lodge with other families through rentals and hope to enjoy it throughout the year as well. We love Hartwell, the great shopping, the amazingly friendly people and the slow pace. We can't help but relax when we're up here. Most often you'll find us reading a book in the shade, sipping lemonade and laughing at silly jokes. From our family to yours, we wish you a relaxing vacation!
Julie Ouellette purchased this lodge in 2010
Hartwell is awesome, just minutes from I-85 and convenient to Atlanta, Greenville, the North GA mountains it's in the perfect location to enjoy all that Georgia and South Carolina have to offer. The people in Hartwell make you feel instantly at home. The country feel yet access to city amenities makes it a perfect escape.
This quiet neighborhood has large lots, well kept houses and many full time families. The lake is quiet and huge! Many times we are the only ones out on the water. We love taking a 20 minute boat ride to the Portman Marina for dinner at the Galley and coming home with the beautiful sunset as the backdrop.
We stayed a week with our 5 grandchildren - ages 7-11. We loved the house, beautifully decorated with a well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed ping pong, pool table and the hot tub. Great location on quiet cove - but close to anything you need. Definitely will plan on coming back. Owners very easy to work with and responsive
We just left our 3 night Valentines Day Getaway weekend with the family, and we absolutely loved it. We have rented many places over the years on vrbo and this is definitely one of the best. The house was very, very, clean upon arrival. It was furnished tastefully with a hunting lodge theme. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need. All of the bedrooms were very spacious and comfortable. We had so much fun downstairs playing pool, ping pong, and relaxing in the hot tub. The house was very convenient to town. The owners were super to deal with and quick to respond if we had any questions. I would definitely stay here again, and I think our kids are already planning on it. Loved the house and hope to rent again soon.
My husband and 2 of his former Notre Dame roommates (one lives in Dallas, Texas, the other in Palo Alto, Cal)get together every year for a ND game. Every other year we go on a road trip instead of revisiting campus, and this year we decided to go the the ND/Clemson game.
It was the weekend of the "storm of the century", the power went out and ND lost but we had a great time inspite of the weather and the loss. The house was our refuge for 4 days. It was located on a great lot on Lake Hartwell. Each couple had their own bedroom and bathroom, which was a must. The kitchen was very well equipped and we ate in every morning, and one evening. There were three great gathering areas, 2 inside (one up and one down) and 1 outside on the 2 level dock. The downstairs also had a play area - ping pong and pool table inside and a hot tub outside. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the outside area due to the bad weather but I would love to return with family during warmer weather to take advantage of all the lake offers. It would be great for kids of all ages, and for adults of all ages also.
The owners were easy to work with and were nice enough to mail us an item which was left behind. Thanks for sharing you lovely home!
Just finished up our week at the house and thoroughly enjoyed the place. Was spotless upon check-in, had plenty of space and the cove it resides in was quite and fun! Have rented many, many homes over the years on Hartwell - definitely a top of the list selection. Oh and naming the many animal friends can be a fun game for everyone, haha. Would rent again for sure!
We just got back from the Wilderness Lodge and would recommend it to anyone! The owners were wonderful to work with and even came out to greet us when we checked in. Great personal service. It's the perfect house for families. We had 2 couples and 4 kids. The kids took over the downstairs where there were plenty of games to choose from and of course ping ball and the pool table. The kitchen was the perfect size for cooking, which we love to do and is stocked with everything you need to make a great meal. Our dog Bella absolutely loved exploring the property, playing with the fish on the shore and hanging out on the top deck in the shade with us. The kids loved the kayaks and the adults really enjoyed the hot tub as well. The location is perfect - it's a nice and quiet part of the lake, but still close enough to town to run to the store. Thanks Julie and Mark for sharing your fabulous home. We will be back next year!
Renting a home is always a gamble - well fortunately we hit the jackpot! My husband and I and our adult children and young grands stayed a week in June 2015. The owner was very responsive, the kitchen well-stocked, the home was beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed it all! ...the hot tub, the pool and ping pong tables, the large TV (Women's World Cup Soccer), the double-decker dock, the kayaks, and the lake (located in a quiet cove). Very relaxing.
There is so much to do in the Hartwell area. Let us know what you're interested in and we'll help point you in the right direction!
