The Villa is located in one of the most beautiful and exotic areas of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. It can accommodate a large family or several couples. There are four rooms in the first floor, each with its own bathroom and shower (2 King Beds, 2 Queen Beds) and a two rooms upstairs with bunk beds that accommodates 6-8 people. The home is in the middle of a lush 2.5+ acre property, which ensures absolute privacy and tranquility. Howler monkeys, toucans, parrots, hummingbirds and many other varieties of birds can be seen daily. The property has a strategic location: 10 minute car drive to Puerto Viejo or Manzanillo, and 20 min drive to Cahuita National Park, and it is surrounded by several great restaurants and local shops. The property connects directly with the white sand beach of Punta Uva (1 minute walk through our private trail). Plenty of deck space which faces the river/canal to the north provides an ideal setting for barbecues, relaxing afternoon or just family time. The large, roofed deck area joins with the living room to create an ample and fresh social space. All rooms have fans and screened windows.
My family and I stayed at Casa Reloj de Arena for 3 days and we had a blast. The villa is super cozy, has an authentic Caribbean style and decor, and is surrounded by a super well taken care of tropical garden. Moreover, it will only take you 1 minute to walk to Punta Uva beach (through a private path) while enjoying the landscape.
Also, the villas's location is super convenient -15 minutes away from Puerto Viejo/Manzanillo. There is a supermarket across the street and several restaurants nearby worth visiting.
Finally, the owner was always available on the phone and we were warmly welcomed by the property manager.
I am already planning my next visit!
I cannot say enough about this place. Pure magic!
We stayed here with another family for a month between January and February. Troops of monkeys outside the door, a perfect beach just down the path, mama and baby sloth at the end of the trail. Perfection. I also want to say that the property manager, Cruz is still a family topic of conversation. His smiles and joy were truly infectious and our sing song nights will go down in the books!
Great place. Great area. Great people.
Amazing getaway. We spent some amazing time at this secluded beach away from the resorts and craziness of the larger beaches. We took two families for a quick getaway and we thoroughly enjoyed the house, the property and the staff. The house is set up perfectly for a couple of families. Kids downstairs and parents up. There is a large common room on the main floor but we did not spend much time inside. We enjoyed the beach to the fullest. If you are going to be staying inside I suggest Vegas. The property is set back off the beach and a quick 2 or 3 minute walk empties you out onto an amazing beach. Find a spot to hang out for the day and string a hammock two and you are in heaven. A trip to the beach at night showcases a glorious view of the night sky. Cruz is the property guard and he is simply amazing. Very polite and works very hard to show you around and make sure you have what you need. Everything is very laid back in the area and this rental is no different. It is like if you were going to your personal beach house in Costa Rica. We went to the little store a short walk away fro plenty of supplies and enjoyed a couple of the restaurants recommended in the visitor guide we received on arrival. Thanks to all. We will return soon.
We went for a family gathering, 5 adults and 7 kids, the house is part of a big property in a beautiful place, conveniently located 200 mts from the beach in Punta Uva. The property has two houses, the owner's house, and the rental house. Yes, it is nice, the river flows inside of the gardens, it has a dock to walk and stay there, but the house is terrible, smelled badly when we arrived, the kitchen and bathrooms are old and poorly kept, everything looked filthy as hell, the showers didn't worked well (in fact the best ones are the ones surrounding the house, to take a shower after the beach!). It does have a laundry room with a dry machine, (that is absolutely necessary in Puerto Viejo), but we found that the maid was washing and drying clothes for her friends & family instead of ours!!. It is pretty obvious that the gazebo and jacuzzi area are part of the "other house" of the property, the owner's house, because it is a warm and cozy place, with nice modern bathrooms, and a clean atmosphere, just as the main house. We were all the time there, as much as we could. The housekeeper Manuel, is very friendly, and always around, and obviously not responsible for all of this, but in the end didn't prove helpful
The week we spent at the Villa during our Destination Wedding: Punta Uva, Costa Rica was amazing. The photos of the villa are great but when we toured the grounds it was more beautiful than expected. It was not a 4 star hotel but what we got was so much more. The villa was very rustic, non-commercial, and fully immersed in nature which made for a great experience. Every morning we woke up to the sound of wildlife in the trees which we occasionally caught glimpses of (howling monkeys, iguanas, and sloths). We stayed in the 6 bedroom house which was clean and very accommodating with screened windows, warm water showers, a fully equipped kitchen and outside dining area. One thing to note is to bring your own drinking water.
The staff was great and helped us with whatever we needed. A nice woman came to clean the bathrooms daily and offered to help us clean after the wedding. During the wedding we used the large gazebo as our dance floor and set up tables, chairs and tents near the Jacuzzi area for our guests. The topping on the cake was the direct path to what felt like a private beach.
What a beautiful, amazing experience.
This place is simply magical. If you love unspoiled nature, the outdoors, wildlife, exotic birds, sounds of the jungle and vibrant colors, then this is your place! If you prefer the fake manicured lawns of Florida, then please stay there and don't spoil it for the rest of us who enjoy a little getaway from man-made stuff.
We stayed at this property for 3 nights in November and it was terrific (even if November is not the best time to visit given how much it rains). The property is really nicely laid out and well maintained by Cruz, the friendly caretaker who will also bring you coconut water and show you birds and wildlife. Both him and Juanita, the house maid, were extremely friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The house is spacious, comfortable, clean and well equipped; there is ample space for parking if you choose to drive; and there is a convenience store with all essentials just around the corner. But my all-time favorite was the gazebo - made entirely from recycled materials, it is not only inviting for an afternoon beer, but is also the perfect place to curl up with a book or just hang out after a day at the beach. The pictures on the web site simply don't do it justice. There is a BBQ area, too, although we didn't use it. The beach itself is a short 2-minute walk from the house and feels completely secluded. You can see sloths, monkeys, tucans and a whole host of other exotic animals directly on the property, which for us was the biggest draw. Puerto Viejo is just a short drive from the property, too, if you want to go out for dinner or a drink.
What you should keep in mind: The beach may be tricky with little kids (no guards). There is wireless internet throughout the house, but as in most places in CR, it is annoyingly slow. The jacuzzi did not have hot water, though frankly this was not an issue in the tropical heat. Wet clothes/towels barely dry and the mosquitoes are everywhere (bring your favorite bug repellent and plan on using it all the time) but this is the same throughout the tropical paradise that Costa Rica is.
All in all, we had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for an authentic, rustic, non-commercial Caribbean experience with much local charm. Pura Vida!
The property is conveniently located close to the main road that connects Punta Uva and Puerto Viejo. The house is surrounded by gardens and a beautiful canal/river that runs through the north side of the property and can be viewed from the terrace and most views from the house. The property connects directly with the beach through a private trail (2 minute walk). A spacious gazebo, ideal for group lunches/dinners, parties and barbecues, is located next to the house. An outdoors Jacuzzi (for 8 to 10 people) is located next to the gazebo. Overall, there is plenty of space, beautiful gardens and great social areas where to enjoy with friends and family. The house is located close to all major attractions in the area, Jaguar Rescue Center, Manzanillo Reserve, Cahuita National Park and in front of a pristine beach regarded as one of the best in Costa Rica.
Punta Uva Beach includes a beautiful peninsula crowded with lush tropical rain forests, white sand beaches and miles of palm trees. Since the river connects with the beach, you can enjoy kayak and boat trips as you explore the river and ocean
