HOME OF THE HULA MOON

Stately and serene, HULA MOON sits on one of the most beautiful oceanfront properties in Puako. Each bedroom has a perfect ocean view. Located near the end of the road, you will enjoy year-round sunsets and privacy. As you enter through the gates, lush tropical plantings enhance the large courtyard swimming pool and generous lanai. The pool is not heated and is seasonally between 77 and 88 degrees. Designed so that every room has a magnificent view of the ocean, you will love the open and airy feeling of this 5000 square foot contemporary home. If you are getting married on the Big Island, congratulations, but please note that we do not allow any weddings or receptions or other events on the property.

HULA MOON was designed for gracious living in a relaxed atmosphere. Including the covered lanais you have almost 7000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space. The two-story Great Room is breezy and inviting with wonderful views of the ocean. The beautiful oceanside lanai has a dining table for 8, seating for an additional 12 guests, and a built-in wet bar. Enjoy watching the humpback whales in season, spinner dolphins and green sea turtles from everywhere in the house. The Puako reef offers some of the best snorkeling and walk-in scuba diving on the Big Island.

We have four large bedrooms located at opposite ends of the house for maximum privacy. The Kona and Kohala suites are on the main floor and both have stunning ocean views and doors that open onto the lanai. Each suite has been beautifully appointed with new King mattresses and linens. Both have large bathrooms with a separate dressing area and a large open-air shower filled with sculpture and tropical plants.

The two spacious upstairs bedrooms have expansive ocean views and a private lanai that runs the length of the house. The Aloha suite has a new King bed and two plantation chairs for relaxing. The Turtle suite has new Twin beds (that can be made into a King Bed) and a daybed 'trundle bed' that also has an additional lower twin mattress. The Turtle suite is a great room choice for the kids or for parents with a couple of children. Of course, it is also perfect for a couple or for several friends to share. Both upstairs bedrooms have private bathrooms with large walk-in showers. The bathrooms were completely remodeled in late 2015.

Each bedroom has a TV/DVD player and an iPod speaker dock. There are 6 televisions with premium cable channels throughout the house. We do not have air conditioning because the home was designed to 'breathe' and to take advantage of the steady ocean breeze and the winds coming off the mountain. This provides excellent cross ventilation. There are ceiling fans and louvered windows in every room. It remains cool and comfortable and every bed has a blanket plus a quilt or comforter which guests often need at night.

If you have business to attend to, we have a great Wi-Fi connection, and several work stations. The upstairs double office has a printer that you are welcome to use. And a punee (Hawaiian lounging bed) for relaxing.

Daily housekeeping, private yoga lessons, in-home massage, kayak rentals, and more can be arranged through our concierge. Just ask and we will do our best to help you make the arrangements for your perfect Puako experience!

I came to Puako 30 years ago. The homes are larger now, but the community retains its laid-back friendly atmosphere. There is something magical about the Big Island and if you spend a little while in Puako you will feel the 'mana' and aloha spirit of this special location.

This is a beautiful home. Every bedroom and living space has a fabulous ocean view and we have excellent cross ventilation throughout. The pool area is protected so it is warm and sunny. We are not located near a public beach access so our house is very private and more secure.

What makes this estate unique

Puako has the finest sunny and dry climate year round. The reef is healthy and wonderful.

Our home was built so that every bedroom has a gorgeous ocean view. The home is perfect for four couples or for a large family group. There is almost 7000 sq. ft. of indoor/outdoor living so you can always find a private place to relax. We enjoy year-round sunsets and quiet friendly neighbors.

We swim in front of the house with manta rays, and dolphins, and buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen at the nearby harbor. We get freshly baked bread and organic produce at the Waimea farmers' market and buy orchid plants and fresh papayas from a woman down the road.

Outstanding house and accomodations! Every deal covered.

What a perfect setting to have a family celebration of my wife's 60th and our 35th anniversary. The house was perfect for our age range ....6 months to 60 years. Great snorkeling in front of the house . We hired a young chef via the culinary school who prepared magical meals for our family of 9 with a wide range of eating habits and desires.( Our meal cost's were $18 per person....all ingredients from local farmers markets and from local growers and fishing boats).

You can't go wrong with this property. It is managed by Niki and owner Gail who are very responsive to every need.

Amazing home for a wonderful vacation!

If you’re searching for a house to call home while you’re on the Big Island, Hula Moon is the place. We held a weeklong family reunion there and it was perfect. There was space and privacy for everyone when they wanted it, along with beautiful and comfortable areas to gather. Our favorite, of course, was the spacious lanai facing the ocean with a front seat to sunsets and an area where several sea turtles sunbathed every day. The home is equipped with everything you need just as it’s listed. Having rented other homes, we always hope that it is clean and well maintained. Hula Moon is beautifully maintained and everything is clean and ready to use and enjoy.

Working with Gail leading up to our trip was a pleasure. She was extremely accommodating to our needs. Niki, our personal concierge, was so friendly and helpful, making our stay complete with local recommendations.

The bottom line is that we all had a fabulous time in this beautiful home in Puako, a very special neighborhood. We highly recommend it. Aloha!

Paradise

Ten of us stayed at this lovely home for a week--ranging in age from 1 1/2 to 73. We couldn't have found a better place for a once-in-a lifetime event. Every bedroom faces the ocean, the house is open and cool, the spot perfect. The house comes equipped with snorkel gear and beach shoes, towels, excellent kitchen equipment and grill so we cooked and ate out on the lanai as a family. Great snorkeling access a block further down the road to extraordinary snorkeling, and state beaches a 5-minute drive. The details of this house make it really special: soft sheets, robes, great indoor/outdoor showers, a lovely pool for the little ones... You can't do better.

The nicest beachfront home on the island! 5 stars is not enough!

You must see this property and its surroundings to believe it. The home is professionally decorated with art and the best of furnishings. You can feel the aloha sprit when you walk in. Every day you spend in it you wonder why you didn't book it longer. Watch whales and turtles and dolphins without the need of binoculars. Go for walks in the Puako neighborhood and feel the community spirit. Close proximity to shops. Walk to the Fairmount for drinks or dinner. Go check out the Puako General Store which has everything you need so you don't have to wonder too far away from this beach home for too long. We stayed 5 weeks and it wasn't long enough and we didn't experience a single issue. We rent vacation homes all over the world and this has to be the nicest properties and locations we've been to. Ride your bike from your door. Swim in the private pool to cool down. And the garage has tons of fun toys such as bikes, snorkel gear, beach toys and chairs. Don't hesitate to rent this home. It's the most unique home and locations on the Big Island. Great value. The property manager Niki is always there to give us guidance as to shops and restaurants and things to see. Your personal concierge. We will miss this home but we'll be back for sure.

Amazing Week

Such a great trip made all that much better by this amazing house. My wife and I went with our two young children and three grandparents. Niki was there to meet us when we arrived and had tons of information on the house and the island. The house had everything you could need -- great pool, amazing ocean views, beautiful lanai and lawn leading to the ocean, and all the necessary little things so you don't have to worry about anything (high-end toiletries, lots of pool/ocean toys, boogie boards, snorkel gear, tons of beach towels, all the Pixar DVDs ever made, etc.). We spent our days at the nearby beaches (Mauna Kea, Hapuna, and Beach 69 are all a short drive a way), our afternoons relaxing on the lanai and lawn or swimming in the pool, and our evenings BBQing and enjoying the sunset from the lanai. There were turtles in the tide pools just past the lawn and whales breaching not too far from shore. The 4 bedrooms were all large with great bathrooms (our upstairs bathroom had maybe the best shower I've ever experienced) and ocean views. The kitchen was stocked with all the plates, bowl, glasses, pots/pans, etc. you could ever need. In short there was nothing more we could have asked for from this trip or the house. Thanks for a great time!

Puako is quite possibly the sunniest spot on the Big Island. Blessed with a dry climate and pristine water, Puako remains a top destination for travellers seeking a perfect beach location. The Puako reef is alive with fish, green sea turtles, eagle and manta rays, dolphins, and whales during the winter season. Early Polynesians considered it a spot with strong 'mana' or spirit, and carved numerous petroglyphs in the fields near our home. Surfers love the winter surf at nearby Paniau, a five minute walk from our home, and children will love the tide pools where the sea turtles rest each evening. Puako is a family neighborhood which was originally homesteaded in the 1950's. The Aloha Spirit is strong and you will love being part of this small friendly community. Puako is a short 25 minute drive north of the KONA Airport. Exclusive resorts with spas, restaurants, tennis and golf courses are a 10 minute drive from Puako. Relax or do everything!

Other Activities: Walk-in scuba diving is a 5 minute walk from our home.
