ElE Shack is a property located in the middle of a deer preserve. The Keys deer are federally protected and though authorities urge human trespassers of this amazing natural retreat to avoid contact, the deer don't seem to be nearly as stressed as they wander through your yard. I'v even been woken by one which nuzzled my ear while I was sunning by the canal.
The house is constantly being upgraded. New beds, linens, furniture, appliances, wide plank wood floors and brand new kitchen. Everything has been custom built so that cleaning is a snap. This is one house that has no dust under the beds or cabinets!

I am a photographer / programmer residing in Miami Beach. This is the first home I have owned. When I saw it I knew that I loved it. Prior to working as a photographer I was a carpentry contractor on high profile projects for the likes of Harrison Ford, Cynthia Gregory, Lena Horn, etc ... and will be applying those skills with the help of my girlfriend (who is a designer) to create a luxurious retreat for our guests as well as ourselves.
The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2010
Quite Simple - There is no other place like it in the world. If you want to be in the midst of nature, among wildlife, clean air, beautiful sunsets, then this is your place.
For me, its all about relaxing. However if you want to have a little fun with your human counterparts, Key West is only 30 minutes drive away. Warning, even one weekend at this property and you may not be able to face the rat race again.
Delightful find. Jorge is a wonderfully accommodating host. We have used VRBO on other occasions and must say this is without a doubt the nicest home we have rented. Already booked again for February 2016. Exactly as pictured and more! Amenities too numerous to mention. Extremely clean, beautifully decorated and maintained. Jorge's love of carpentry is exhibited throughout the home. The most elegant "fishing shack" we have ever been in. Loved the neighborhood. Perfect area for us. Bicycling, Kayaking, Fishing in a quiet nature preserve with all the comforts of home. Easy access to exploration of other areas in the Florida Keys. We love to cook and grill and were very happy with the beautiful kitchen. 3 of our children and their spouses joined us at intervals during our month stay. All have high pressure jobs and said they felt they had found a piece of heaven on earth during their visits. We have 2 small yorkies and could tell they much preferred the warmth and playing with the Key Deer to our Wisconsin snow and freezing temps! We would highly recommend the Ele Shack for a perfect stay in a quiet area of the Florida Keys.
Everything about this vacation was perfect. Jorge responds immediately by email and is very easy to do business with. The property amazing. Jorge built 2 lounges on the screened porch that my daughter and husband slept on a few nights under the full moon and stars. It was great to have the bikes to go for a ride at least once a day. Try to Pindar the 2 peacocks that wander around.
Hammocks -yeah, no need to say more!
The wildlife was the best part for our family. The key deer are reason enough to come here - they came up and gave my daughters kisses when they were sun bathing. The fish in the canal are beautiful. It's like having an aquarium in the back yard. By the way, the black and white one is now named Stanley. He was always there.
We did rent the boat and found it very easy to navigate with the gps. We even had 3 dolphin follow us in our wake one day! Also saw sea turtles and a shark from the boat. The water is warm and clear.
The location of the island is perfect. Peace and quiet but close to so much!
Key West is an easy drive. Loved Sloppy Joes! Great food, fun music, and awesome staff! My 17 year old daughter proclaimed No Name Pub to have the best cheese fries.
I also recommend the snorkel trip. I. Inexpensive trip to a beautiful reef. Easy for second time snorkels! I am ready to go back.
I'm sure your family would have an amazing vacation too!
Beautiful, clean, well-maintained, and updated property. The kitchen is well-stocked, and the furnishings are comfortable. The new swings on the screened-in porch overlooking the canal are a real plus - very relaxing to sit outside, gently swing, and watch the birds. Another plus was that the owner allowed us to bring our dog.
People in the neighborhood of Port Pine Heights are very friendly, and we enjoyed walking to the bay with our glass of wine to watch the sunset with our new-found friends. Of course, the Key deer are a treat to see grazing right there in the yard.
The owner was very helpful in showing us how to use the boat and provided information on the household management queries we had. Very nice guy.
We were pleased to have a Winn-Dixie grocery store so conveniently located. Just a short trip down the road. Be sure to get a Winn Dixie card for great gas-perks for the car and the boat.
Boondocks Restaurant on nearby Ramrod Key is a great place to have dinner. Their buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese is to die for. They are also pet-friendly and will bring your dog a bowl of water.
We hope to return in the future. Most highly recommended!
I was so impressed with this rental and with the owner who really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable during our stay. This rental is very clean and decorated so nicely with all the amenities. It is super comfortable and in a very chill and laid back location two streets down from the ocean. If you want to feel more like a local and less like a tourist, this place is for you. It is about a 12 minute drive away from the main highway. There are bike paths right outside of the neighborhood if you like to bike. If you like to fish, this is ideal location. Rent the boat and fish, fish, fish. The Key Deer were so cool to watch and you really do start to know them so well you want to start naming them. The sunsets are spectacular in the screened in porch overlooking the channel. And the gourmet kitchen was a major plus for me because I love to cook! And just a little detail but it had great TV and internet which was important to us because we had to work a little too while were were here. We really enjoyed our time and will be coming back. It was exactly what you imagine when you think of a place to get away for a vacation.
Bird & Wildlife watching, photography. Some of the best diving and snorkeling is only a 10 minute boat ride from our house.
