Idyllic, peaceful escape

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent three wonderful weeks at Bag End this summer. What a terrific place! The property is perched on top a hill, providing a tranquil setting from which to view Cazenovia Lake, the windmills and nature’s bounty.

The property was a perfect place to entertain. The exterior barbeque area, along with lots of outdoor seating, provided the perfect setting for our family gathering….not to mention the view! The owners of the property were gracious and accommodating. They took steps to ensure the beautiful landscaping and gardens were at its peak perfection, so that our guests could see the property in its prime.

Bag End was also a perfect place to enjoy quiet moments together. There are bookcases chock full of great reads, and the barn provides lots of quiet corners and lofts from which to enjoy them. There’s also lots of wildlife to observe, from the family of rabbits that greet you each time to wind your way up the gravel drive, to the groundhog that makes his daily, elusive visit and the frequent winged-visitors to the many birdfeeders around the property. Also, just out the back door are trails to enjoy on Preservation Land. We loved having the windows open to enjoy the sound of the lovely hilltop breezes and nature’s symphony.

All this was just minutes from the village of Cazenovia, so a hop into town for provisions or to enjoy village activities was very convenient.

We loved the place, as did all our friends and families who came to visit. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, idyllic escape.

Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect place to have our college graduation weekend. It is close enough to town yet far enough away that you are in your own little world here. The house is breathtaking inside and out. Every expectation was met and more for this amazing weekend because of this perfect house. Not only was there enough room for our families to gather outside at the fire, but it is large enough for us all to be inside together. It is a beautiful place for pictures with all of the gardens around! Definitely my dream home! The Kings were very amazing people. They were just a phone call away! The first night one of the lights outside was off but as soon as we asked about it the electrician was there first thing in the morning! Not only did they answer every single question we had but they also gave us information on how to build our own house out of a barn! All around it was one of the best stays I have ever had. We will definitely be going back to visit soon! -Tyler & Jocelyn

Owner's Response: May is the time when our gardens at Bag End are coming to life and our numerous varieties of birds are returning from their winter homes. Daffodils are still sending their cheery message, lilacs starting to bloom, peonies not far behind, and our heritage rose garden about to flood the air with fragrance! It is a season of GRADUATION - in many ways. And we are privileged to share this unique, private setting with families who are celebrating a special family event. BAG END IS A FAMILY PLACE.

Great View and Awesome House

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at ''Bag End'' for a family reunion. The house is very charming and all of us loved it. It was nice to be able to relax and look out at the view. It is absolutely beautiful. It is very fun and unique to watch the wildlife. Looking out at the bird feeders and seeing all of the different types of birds was very cool. All of the gardens were beautiful. I had a great time at ''Bag End''.

Owner's Response: This Review is especially gratifying because it emphasizes the relationship guests at Bag End enjoy with nature. a relationship we have been working to enhance over the last several years. Once they have driven up our long driveway, guests are in their own private world - even though Cazenovia Lake and Village are only a mile away. Bag End is also adjacent to 9 1/2 miles of nature trails administered by the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation. 2015 will feature the addition of a YURT next to the firepit, to support late night relaxation and star watching.

Great House, Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I stayed in Bag End for four nights to relax and catch up, as well all now live in different parts of the country. It is a great place. As other reviews have noted, the house itself is very cool and unique (the pictures on the website do not do it justice). However, for us, the property was the crown jewel. Lots of privacy and a fantastic large sitting/grilling area where we spent a lot of our time. Also, even in the middle of July the weather was great, warm, but with a constant breeze. It is located very close to the lake, but as I said, plenty of privacy. The owners are also very nice. I would definitely return myself and would recommend Bag End to others.

A different (but very good) kind of accomodation

  • 5 of 5

A family/friends reunion presented us with the opportunity of spending a wonderful weekend at the "Bag End". The owners did everything to accommodate our requests and to make the event really memorable. Regarding the "Bag End" experience, just take a look at the pictures. The barn interior is an open space concept, which for us and our guests was the main attraction. Not a lot of privacy, but this made it only more enjoyable. Everybody had a great time. We definitely recommend it.

Owner's Response: We are so happy at the enthusiastic responses from people who have stayed at Bag End, our converted "pioneer English barn." In response to requests, we are now making the place available year-around and this review is from one of the first groups to take advantage of the extended availability. 2012 plans include beginning a new Antique Rose Garden in May, the installation of several new-to-us pieces of antique wrought iron garden furniture, a bonfire pit and numerous new plantings. We invite annyone to come check us out if you are in the area. Our new home is just 10 minutes away and we are very accessible. The Kings

Perfect Graduation Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Dear Ken and the Kings,

Thank you so much for the use of this very special home for our daughter's graduation. Having worked with old barns, we spent the entire weekend admiring the craftsmanship. And the setting was perfect for a family celebration dinner, complete with a jaunt down to the lake for the maiden voyage of Haley's gift, a handmade wooden canvas canoe. We enjoyed the views, the flowers, the trails, the birds and deer. It was simply perfect.

Thank you, Barrett & Mary Peterson, Williston, Vt
