Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 outside shower, sleeps 5

Welcome to Villa Atlantic Sunrise, a large and tranquil beachfront property with 250 feet of beachfront on a beautiful and deserted pink sand beach. Villa Atlantic Sunrise is ideal for anyone who likes the feeling of privacy in a beautiful ocean and beach landscape. Help and assistance is close if needed, but you will not be disturbed if you don't want to be. You can watch the sunrise directly from your bed!

This spacious house (2600 square feet) features an expansive great room with spectacular beach and ocean views from the living area, dining area, and kitchen. The living area features a 10-foot sliding glass wall looking out at the ocean. The room is furnished with a teak dining set, a rattan couch set, and a rocking chair. There is also a sofa bed in the living room.

Atlantic Sunrise has a large open kitchen with a countertop facing the great room. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, glass-top range, coffee machine, blender, toaster, microwave, ice crusher, blender, shaker, pots and pans of different sizes, and more. The counter tops are elegantly finished with French tiles.

Villa Atlantic Sunrise has two bedrooms, both with views of the beach and ocean. The king-bed master suite, like the great room, features a 10-foot sliding glass wall looking out at the ocean. The guest bedroom has a queen bed. Both bedrooms have large full baths with double sinks and showers. The master suite also has a luxurious over-sized tub.

The oceanfront veranda is ideal for watching the sunrise, the sea, or the stars. It is roofed for shade and furnished with a teak dining set. There is an outdoor shower beside it. Walk off your veranda and across your yard and right onto a miles-long deserted pink sand beach.

On the opposite side of the house, the back veranda faces the sunset, and is furnished with a smaller dining set. Palm trees in the garden also provide shade, if you like to relax outside in your chair and read a book under a palm.

The house was designed to catch the sea breezes and bring them through the rooms, keeping the house comfortable and breezy year-round. In addition to air conditioning in all bedrooms, all rooms are equipped with ceiling fans for further air circulation. The house is equipped with a washing machine. Your clothes will dry quickly and naturally on the clothes line in the ocean breeze. There is charcoal grill outside for open-air grilling, and a dining set on the ocean-view veranda for outdoor dining. The house comes with two hammocks. Villa Atlantic Sunrise is a perfect spot for hammock time with the sound of the ocean to put you to sleep.

We provide internet access (wireless connection throughout the house), telephone (for calls within Eleuthera), radio, and projector for videos and movies. Should you wish to hear your own music, or watch TV or movies with your computer, just connect your laptop with an USB port to our box system and projector. We also have speakers for music. The house does not have a conventional TV.

Villa Atlantic Sunrise is conveniently located 15 minutes from Governor's Harbour and 5 minutes from James Cistern. One of the nicest Caribbean side beaches, Alabaster Bay, is less than 5 minutes away by car. There you have quiet and shallow water and can watch the sunset. An Italian restaurant, Cocodimama, is located directly on that beach, ideal for enjoying a sunset dinner. Sky Beach Club's excellent restaurant with poolside service all day long is less than 10 minutes away.

The town of Governors Harbour has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. . Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

James Cistern, just 5 minutes in the other direction, has an excellent grocery store, a gas station, and two restaurants. Fresh seafood is often available at the town dock. The Rainbow Inn, another 5 minutes to the north, is the top-rated restaurant on the island, famous for its steaks and fresh vegetables from its organic garden. The Rainbow Inn has live entertainment several nights a week, including occasional appearances from the island’s favorite musical celebrity.

Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy Atlantic Sunrise Villa and experience all our island has to offer.

About Matthew Simon and Kristin Tornow

I am German working as university professor, at the moment in Mexico City; my husband is a school teacher in Germany.

Matthew Simon and Kristin Tornow purchased this house in 1999

Why Matthew Simon and Kristin Tornow chose Bahamas

Me and my husband have always liked the ocean. Early in the 90s we discovered this island that was at that time only rarely visited by tourists. We liked the long, quiet beaches and decided to buy a property there and had our own house built there.

A Beautiful Place to Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Wiring money was a bit nerve-wracking for us since we had not done this in the past; but it all went well (but don't expect much in way of receipt - you'll get an email that they got it). There were many questions that we had prior to the trip (and while we were there) that never got answered by the Caretaker, Linda. Some of those questions were answered in the FAQ's we found at the house - it would be helpful to have those FAQ's emailed to future renters beforehand (and they could be expanded upon/updated). The house was extremely nice and had a lot of amenities. The master bed was comfortable and the furniture was cozy and welcoming. The only downside to the house were the sliding doors in the living room and bedroom (could be worked on so that they function better) and the lack of shampoo/conditioner and hair dryer. You have to buy water and leave some behind for future guests (it would be nice to know that ahead of time as we had stopped at the store for groceries before going to the house and had to go out again). We would rent this place again as the location on the island is IDEAL and is close to Queen's Highway. Renting a 4WD jeep (or car with higher clearance) is also something we would do instead of a 2WD car. The beach is deserted and beautiful. The yard and veranda are extremely lovely; we spent a great deal of time on the veranda. You are on the windy side of the island, so be aware of that. And also be prepared for washed up trash (nets, plastic, propane tank) on the beach - it's extremely sad to see on such a beautiful beach. It's not only on this beach, but many of the others we visited.

Great location and privacy

  • 5 of 5

28 days in this great property. Kristin and Tara at eleutheravactonrentals.net were very helpful and communicated frequently to ensure everything was in order leading up to the stay as well as while I was there. Linda, the very friendly caretaker, made sure everything was just right.

Very private beach with few footprints. If you are looking for a quiet and tranquil setting, this is it. Very few neighbors. Great diving and swimming right out front.

The house itself was well equipped and comfortable. I only used a little AC at night in the bedroom. Ceiling fans were great in the living areas if there was no breeze.

Governors Harbor and James Cistern both local for grocery and other necessities. Eleuthera has changed in the 43 years since I first visited. More cars and visitors might be creating some new stresses on our wonderful Bahamian hosts. When you are running errands or just walking the towns, take a minute to engage the locals. I think you will be amazed at how friendly and hospitable everyone is. Just be very friendly and respectful of their beautiful island. I made many new friends in these towns.

And don't forget fresh bread and cinnamon rolls along with organic veggies at Island Farm Tuesday and Friday. Opens at 9 and the breads go fast :)

The owners have created a wonderful island getaway. Thank you to them.

Lots of peace and quiet, house is appointed simply but well.

  • 4 of 5

Loved the drive in to the house, felt secluded but not remote. House is comfortable and has everything we needed. Beach was wonderful, only saw 4 people in three days. Can hear the waves on the beach from the house, very soothing. I would definitely go back again.

The house and the view were absolutely beautiful! The island was very calm and peaceful and the natives are super friendly! Great snorkeling and stunning photo's! The beds were hard but overall we had an amazing stay even though most local places were closed for off season and it rained every single day! Lol! Can not wait to Go back!

Atlantic Sunrise - Perfect getaway, great managers

  • 5 of 5

First, let us tell you how great the owners and management were before we even got there. They answered every question, thought of every answer to questions we didn't ask yet. We headed for Eleuthera with the excitement of exploring a new island and the comfort in knowing we had all the information we needed to really enjoy ourselves.

Atlantic Sunrise Villa is a large home with plenty of room, an amazing oceanview for at least a mile to the south with no one in site. The beds were comfortable, and the bedrooms had individual air conditioners. We were able to leave the door sliders wide open during the day to capture the ocean breeze, adding the feeling of tranquility and calm that we were looking for. The house was very clean when we arrived and, Linda, the caretaker came by a couple of times to make sure we were happy.

We spent a lot of time on our private pink beach (there are a couple homes to the north but we never saw anyone on the beach), but had the most fun exploring the island's hidden beaches via Jeep, and trying all the different little cafes and bars on the island. The return back to the house and it's great view capped off every wonderful day in the best possible way.

Our advice; stay at Atlantic Sunrise Villa, explore as much of the island as you can and visit with the local residents as much as possible. They are the true treasures of Eleuthera. We will be back!

Steps from the beach--miles of remote beach

  • 4 of 5

This remote and extremely quiet location may not be ideal for everyone, but it was perfect for us. Sunrise every morning over a deserted beach, miles of undisturbed and uninhabited beach provided our entertainment. I only saw three other people on the beach the entire week. Great swimming and snorkeling right in front of the house. The cooling breeze, open floor plan and sound of waves provided a wonderful sleeping environment. Appropriately appointed, everything we needed was there and the caretaker, Linda, was ever present to provide what little things we asked for to make our stay wonderful. No TV which was fine with us-- the wifi was enough outside world. The beds were comfortable and everything we needed was provided including towels, laundry soap, coolers, etc. The only thing stopping this house from this getting 5 stars is the somewhat odd layout requiring a pass through the huge master bath to get into the master bedroom. It presented no problem for us, just odd. If you want a quiet, remote and beach oriented house, this is an excellent choice.
