About Christy Chapman

Dr. Chapman is a materials scientist by day who got into the rental business as a way to offset the cost of lake front property ownership.

Christy Chapman purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Christy Chapman chose Bradford

We love the Finger Lakes Region in general and Lamoka Lake is ideal because it is quieter than the bigger lakes yet you can take a boat directly to Waneta through the channel if you want something different. The public island is a nice place to swim or picnic or pick wild blueberries. The water here is more shallow so it warms up nicely and there are no zebra mussels (razor clams) so you can just walk in barefoot.

What makes this cottage unique

The wildlife is spectacular. We like to wake up in the morning and see a heron on the dock or a bald eagle flying overhead. Osprey and kingfishers are quite common. The carp try to beach themselves foraging for food in our shallow areas by the rasberry bushes. My favorite time is at night by the bonfire listening to bullfrogs. I like to look out over the lake where we barely see another light or a house. The stars are nice in August; no light pollution. Every now and then the sound of a fox or pack of coyotes in the distance reminds you that you really are outdoors.

Tenant Provides Linens.

The house was liveable the water was awful

The property was situated on a beautiful lake with gorgeous views even saw bald eagles on a few occasions. The fire pit was great. Nice secluded spot. The house left a bit to be desired. The water was not pleasant.

Beautiful and relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time at Heron Hideaway. The lot was spacious and since the weather was perfect we spent most of our time outside. The area was quiet and the views were beautiful. We enjoyed being on the lake and having the woods around us. The cottage had everything we needed and the enclosed porch was great to have our morning coffee in. It was a relaxing weekend!

My wife and I were a little concerned of being off grid in the world of computerized everything. We had a wonderful time in this cute cottage. As I read in other reviews, which stated the road in was pretty steep, true but nothing to worry about. No problem at all, even pulling my little boat trailer. The cottage had all we needed to be comfortable. Fished off the dock some, but this year the weeds and algae have increased somewhat. Went out everyday in my 12 ft jon boat, which we launched right from shore and tied to the great dock. Not great fishing, but caught a few, and enjoyed it very much. We had a perfect week for the weather. Several days we went out to some of the closer wineries. I recommend Bully Hill for tasting and also lunch. Then close by, we went to Great Western which has free tastings during the week. All in all we had the most relaxing time for Debi and I and totally enjoyed staying here on the lake.

peaceful secluded cottage

  • 4 of 5

Two of us spent a week at Heron Hideaway in August 2017. Great location on outlet of Lamoka Lake. Swimming not so good. large lot, rowboat, canoe, fine dock, fire-pit. Natural setting was stupendous. Good fishing we are told.

Cottage was comfortable. Kitchen was wonderful. need to bring drinking water. clean and well maintained. Driveway is very steep.

Close to Hammondsport, Watkins Glen, Keuka and Seneca Lake wineries.

We saw a fireball in the heavens on the evening of August 21, 2017.

Private and quaint getaway with beautiful views of the lake

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at “Heron Hideaway”! We were looking for a relaxing vacation close to home, and we found it. It was exactly what we expected based on the pics/info given to us on this site. The lot is large and private and we enjoyed the outdoor furniture (hammock, swings, chairs). There was plenty of wood there to get us started using the fire pit, which we did almost every nite. The lake is quiet, and it was nice to be on the narrow end for using our kayaks and the row boat provided. (There’s a canoe there too which we didn’t use). My sons (22 and 24) fished right off the dock and out in the row boat. Caught a few pickerel and sunfish. They would’ve liked to have caught more but it was late in the season and quite a bit of seaweed. The location is great. It’s close to Watkins Glen (which our two younger kids – 14 and 19 – had never been to and loved hiking the park), wineries (we went to Ravines), Hammondsport, and restaurants (we enjoyed the Switz Inn on Keuka Lake. All you can eat crab legs, Wed. nite.). We went to a beach in Hammondsport which was small but clean and not crowded. It would’ve been nice to swim off the cottage dock but the water wasn’t clean. Maybe it is earlier in the season. We also loved visiting the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen and took a group tour there. We were expecting a small farm but there are 600 animals there! The cottage was equipped with everything we needed. It was adorable, clean and comfortable. The shower was very small though – it should be noted that a large person could have a problem with that. Water pressure wasn’t great (well water) but it was no big deal. We didn’t care about not having cable TV and only watched a video one nite but the screen was really grainy. Maybe the video was just old. If it had rained this could’ve been an inconvenience but we had no rain the whole week we were there. The sofa could use an upgrade. But again, we weren’t that concerned about those things, just mentioning here for “review” purposes to others who may be. To us it was all about location, privacy and being outdoors and we picked the perfect spot for that. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for the same type of vacation. Our days were spent fishing, kayaking, relaxing outdoors, taking a drive if we felt like it and having bonfires. Our whole blended family was together most of the week and we all enjoyed our vacation. We will have fond memories of our stay!

Relaxing stay

  • 4 of 5

A much needed relaxing vacation. The view, the weather and all that is needed is right there. The cottage was comfy with a huge yard for the dogs to play. The only negative is that I wish we had brought a boat (besides our little fishing boat) to cruise the lake.
