NUMBER OF GUESTS:
• The Maine Ski House DOES sleep 18 in beds, but 6 of the beds are twin bunks and 4 of them are upper bunks.
• Therefore, we request the MAXIMUM number of adults staying are 10-12 and the children (people under 18) can be any number, as long as the total number of people does not exceed 18.
What makes us different and why, we think, our repeat guest rate is 50%:
We provide everything you need to make a "house" function as "home". When you stay with us, you will find we provide all bathroom products (toilet paper, shampoo/conditioner/body soap/hand soap) and even clips to 'mark' your towel so you know which one is yours. We even provide three "Oops, I forgot my..." baskets which have toothbrushes, toothpaste, Q-tips, razors, shaving cream, hand cream, feminine products, floss, and more! We provide all linens and towels and give you full access to the beautifully organized linen closet in case you need more items. You will not find the throw away salt and pepper in our home because we provide a plethora of kitchen staple (spices, oils, baking products such as flour/sugar/baking soda) that are constantly being added to by our guests, who are avid chefs from what we have seen! We love seeing the interesting items people have donated to our spice cabinet. We also provide aluminum foil, baggies, Seran wrap, parchment paper, storage containers for left overs, and plenty of napkins, and paper towels and garbage bags. No need to decide who is getting the dish detergent and dish washing products because we provide those also. We try very hard to keep a back up of coffee grounds, because there is nothing worse than realizing nobody brought coffee, and there is always a nice jar of different tea bags available.
From our years of traveling with large groups to home that literally provided nothing and knowing how difficult that was to divide up among travelers as we arrived and departed, we try very hard to provide everything you could possibly need for your stay whether it is 2 nights or 7.
On the bottom shelf of the pantry we have an air popcorn maker and popcorn kernels so there is always something to snack on.
We like to say all you need to bring is your clothing, toiletries (but even if you forget something, we likely have a backup), and your food and drinks.
On June 23, 2016 we were SELECTED AND FEATURED BY HOMEAWAY AS one of only seven:

New in May 2015...
for Hobbit Fans and 'kids' of all ages, the Hobbit Playhouse will be something that you have never seen before. It was assembled on-site by Wooden-Wonders of Unity Maine. It has hard wood floors and two windows so playing and hanging out in it should be comfortable all summer long. I
It has a play stove/oven set and table and two chairs from IKEA and some cute "fabric" food and other fun toys.
It also has a couch that flattens out to a full bed, which is a great place to take an afternoon nap!
We hope our 'littlest' guests, and those with huge imaginations, will love the idea of a Hobbit Hole and have hours of imaginative play time in it.
***THE HOBBIT HOLE WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE WINTER SEASON FROM NOVEMBER UNTIL MID-MAY***
At THE MAINE SKI HOUSE we try to offer something to keep everyone happy:
• Horseshoe Pit and Fire Pit: In July 2014 we built a Horseshoe Pit and Fire Pit, which have been great additions to the outdoor space. There is nothing like sitting around a fire on a chilly summer or fall night, making S'Mores, and watching a competitive game of Horseshoes.
• 12+ Adirondack chairs around the fire pit
• Deck: We have a large second story deck that has enough space for people to be doing different things but still all be able to chat and socialize:
• 6 person round hot tub
• gas grille
• 6 Adirondack chairs
• Child sized picnic table
• Two-person wooden swing
• We have an unusual feature that you will not find at most houses: an IN-HOUSE TREASURE HUNT for kids of all ages- literally! Join in the fun, or just watch as the participants go room to room for answers to over 20 questions. The completed answers lead them to a hidden treasure chest full of surprises and treats.
• The open KITCHEN/LIVING/DINING areas can keep everyone together for meals, socializing, and game playing. The island seats 4 and the pub-height table seats 14. The well equipped kitchen is a cooks dream as there are ample supplies and prep areas for several people to help. There is a ton of cabinet storage, a pantry with slide-out shelves, an extra fridge in the pub, and a beverage fridge by the coffee center. We also have a gas GE Cooktop with a center griddle for pancakes, a Kitchen-Aid mixer, a hot-air popcorn popper, a 3-pot fondue pot, and a chocolate fountain, and plenty of pretty bowls, platters, containers for amazing meals cooked by the 'chefs' in your group.
•The THREE CUB PUB, in the basement level, will keep you feeling like you are in your very own pub and wondering if you ever have to leave the house at night. It has two flat screen TV’s for game-viewing from every angle. There is a sink, seating for 6, and a Jimmy Buffet Margarita Maker which also makes perfect slushies for kids!
*Classic 1980’s Arcade game has 60 classic games such as PAC MAN and Galaga
•The OZ REC ROOM:
• Wii on its own TV

About Paula Easley
We met while students at The University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1989, and married few years later. We had three children and when they were 1, 3, and 5 we started traveling with four other college friends and their families. Our 'crew' totaled 10 adults and 15 children, most of them born in a 5 year span. It was so much work to travel with young children that it was actually as many hours of packing/unpacking than our three days together, but none of us cared! After our long weekends, we were completely exhausted, our stomachs ached from laughing, and someone usually ended up at the doctor on Tuesday. The time we spent together sitting and talking, eating, cooking, cleaning, game playing, sipping coffee in the morning and drinks at night, hiking up mountains to exhaust the kids so they would go to bed early... was SO FUN, the price of complete exhaustion afterwards was well worth it. Over the 14 years of our annual tradition, we rented in Southern VT and Newry and Scarborough Maine. The group has experienced quite a range of quality of homes: from 'kind of roughing it' to 'oh no, there are a lot of fancy breakable things here'. As a couple, we've been renting homes between FL and New England since '97. We like to say between all of those rentals, we have "seen it all" and often said "if we ever owned a rental, we would..." So in 2010 we began our own venture in Vacation Rental Ownership and put all of the lessons we have learned into action. We guide you through the process of renting, tell you as much as we can before you arrive, but then give you your privacy once you your vacation begins. We know a trip to a rental home takes a lot of planning and money. You will see in our reviews, we try to make the experience in our home all that it should be: a relaxing, comfortable and fun visit to the beautiful Sunday River area. We hope you will stay with us and experience The Maine Ski House for yourself. We think your group will thank you for booking with us.

Why Paula Easley chose Newry
The location was amazing: in Newry just 1 mile from Sunday River Ski Resort. We are on Barker Mountain, one of Sunday River's peaks, in Barker Mountain Village. It is a paved public road so the road is easier for the town to take care of than a dirt road and we are fortunate to have Cross Excavation as our plow company. They also plow the road so we are always plowed out quickly and repeatedly during storms. The house has extreme privacy on the 1 acre yard. We have views looking up into the Mahoosuc Range and at Mount Will. From the yard and deck, there are views of Barker Mountain, and the trails are easily seen during the winter months. We have been able to develop what was a yard of wood chips into a small oasis with a horse shoe pit, fire pit, picnic table, outdoor lights strung from the house to the trees, and something that has given kids hours of entertainment: The Hobbit Hole House. It was installed in May 2015 and it was one of the best things we have ever added to the house. It is a magical building that feels like a real Hobbit Hole House and is 5' 8" at the peak so adults can get into it, but it is the young children that have hours of fun with the IKEA table and chairs, IKEA stove and sink, and full sized futon. It is also a great place for an afternoon nap because the two windows have screens on them so a nice breeze can travel through the space.
What makes this Chalet unique
We thought we had hit the jack pot when we found the location for The Maine Ski House: behind the Matterhorn and 2 miles from the South Ridge Lodge! The foundation was in but no walls were up yet. We modified the developer's plan (we lost count of how many times) to make their beautiful design into a great rental: we made the kitchen open and bigger than they had planned for, we made the walls in the stairwell into the basement solid so noise did not travel, we closed off the pub from the rec room to give the adults more privacy, we had stairs off of the deck built so people could access the yard easily, we paved the driveway to improve plowing and cut down on dirt into the house, created a separate beverage area for coffee/wine/sink to get out of the way of the 'chefs' in the group, measured out a space for a dining table that would hold 14 people, provided as much storage as possible in the kitchen, bathrooms, and mudroom. The developers questioned a few of our decisions, but we knew what makes a home a great comfortable rental for large groups from years of experience. Our reviews are evidence that we were on the right track because people rave about our amenities, storage, comfort level, bedding and linens, entertainment choices, and electronics. People especially love the Welcome Packet we send and The Welcome Baskets that greet them on the counter. We expect nothing but a great experience for those that stay with us. When people book our house, we are excited for them because we know they have made a great decision and their lodging portion of their trip is going to be worry-free. It is rare that we receive a question just prior to someone's arrival because our guests know all they need to know before they leave home. Our goal is to have your stay in The Maine Ski House feel like it is your 'home away from home' and if you ever think about coming back to Sunday River, there are no questions as to where to stay. We hope you will stay with us soon...

Spacious, clean, fun – a great place for multiple
This was our second year in a row renting the Maine Ski House for a winter weekend of skiing at Sunday River. This year, we enjoyed the property with 2 other families (totaling 6 adults and 7 children, ages 20 months to 13 yrs). Plenty of space. The adults used the hot tub and cooked dinners in the kitchen and the on-deck BBQ grill, and the kids loved the entertainment systems available (Wii, Xbox, and older video game standup console). This house has a lot of features that added to the stay – for instance, the kids enjoyed an in-house treasure hunt that the owners put together. The living room fireplace/hearth made the post-ski and post-dinner activities really relaxing and cozy. The WiFi signal throughout the house was good. There was a margarita maker that suited the adults après ski. There were also a lot of intangibles that make this place special too – there were a few bags of ice in the freezer upon arrival, there were towel clips to help keep track/ID your shower or hot tub towel, the washer/dryer/dishwasher worked great, there were spices/oils and various kitchen goods (aluminum foil, Tupperware, etc) that made being away from home easier.
It is a great spot – close enough to Sunday River that it made going to/from easy. Note – this is not a ski-in and ski-out location. The house sits about 1.7 mi away from White Cap lodge and approx. 2.2 mi from the main South Ridge base lodge. Right around the corner of the house is the Matterhorn restaurant, which served us well for dinner and drinks one evening.
Of special note – upon leaving and returning home, I realized that I had accidentally left a small item at the ski house. The owner (Paula) could not have been more helpful. She made sure the item was returned – and with that little act of human kindness, it certainly put a lot into perspective. The owner of this property cares and you can also sense that sentiment in the ‘to do’ binder and ‘where to eat’ binder located in the house…along with their instructions (check list) of what to do upon departure.
I’d recommend this property – and I’m hopeful that my family will get to stay there again.
Beautiful home, all the amenities, minutes from the lifts
Start to finish this was a wonderful experience. Paula handles the on-boarding which couldn't be more thorough and comprehensive. It also helps that she is extremely nice!
The house is fully stocked for adults and kids... they've literally thought of everything a weekend renter could ever need.
I'd highly recommend the Maine Ski House.
Pristine Sunday River Chalet
This home has it all - comfortable, accommodating, beautiful and relaxing. Our group very much enjoyed our stay for a ski weekend at Sunday River. The home itself is extremely well-stocked with anything you could need while on vacation including games for fun and kitchen amenities for cooking a variety of meals. The communication ahead of the trip and attention to detail in personalized notes around the home exceeded all other accommodations I have previously booked. Paula was amazing and ensured we would have the best ski getaway possible. I highly recommend this chalet!
The house is on a wooded lot on 1 full acre of land. It is located on the edge of Barker Mountain so as you drive up our road, you can see the trails of Sunday River's 'White Heat'. At night, you can see the snowcats grooming the trails and you feel as though you are in the middle of the activity, but yet secluded as our neighborhood is very quiet. We are located in the neighborhood behind infamous Matterhorn Ski Bar, for those who are familiar with the area.
In the summer months, we typically have a constant breeze flowing through the house and it can really feel like a tree house as you look out at the tree tops off of the deck. If you do need to cool off from the heat, we are just minutes away from The Artists Covered Bridge, Screw Auger Falls or Mother Walker Falls. We highly recommend checking out these places because they are not only fun, but stunningly beautiful. We do think the most fun we've had in the summer is when we have gone Lazy River Tubing on The Androscoggin River with Bethel Outdoor Adventure. It is hours of relaxing old fashioned fun! You can picnic along the edge of one of the little islands. You will feel as though you've stepped back in time as there are minimal signs of modern day life for most of the ride down river.
