I highly recommend this apartment if you are visiting New York City and like riding the subway. It is not a luxury hotel, but it has a lot of good things: 1. It is easy to travel about anyplace in NYC that you want. 2. The apartment is well equipped with kitchen and bathroom supplies. 3. The apartment is located in a safe area of NYC.
The owner was friendly and helpful. The only negative thing about our visit was an issue with the shower drain being clogged with gobs of hair. I cleaned out the hair, but the drain was still clogged. One call to the owner, and the drain worked the next day.
If you are a senior, you can get an unlimited ride MetroCard for less than $16 for a week. My wife paid over $50 during the week for subway rides (she is not a senior yet). Too bad we did not get the 7 day unlimited ride pass for her for less than $32. Before you go, go to the NYC Metro website for information about riding the subway and buses. Get a subway map, which was a big help for us.
I would definitely stay there again!
The apartment is in an excellent location (30 minutes to Manhattan - 10 minutes walk to the subway and 20 minutes subway ride) The owner is very accommodating and communicates very well. His family lives in the building, so he is always there to help, if needed, but he is very discreet and respectful, and will never bother you unless you need his assistance. The area is great, close to stores, restaurants, metro and the wonderful Astoria park. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay: it is quiet (rare in NY and Astoria! I used to live in NYC for 10 years and having such an peaceful apartment during my stay was a luxury) it has good quality bedding, well-equiped kitchen, good AC, cable and internet connection. The neighborhood is vibrant and safe. Highly recommended
If my family makes the trek to NYC again, we almost definitely will be staying at this delightful apartment in Astoria. As former NYCers, we knew we didn't want to stay in a hotel for our week-long visit. Enter VRBO, and Mr. Awadalla's modestly priced 1-bedroom apartment.
Centrally located near tons of shops, amenities and the subway (about a 10-15 minute walk), the 1-bedroom apartment is clean and functional. Sure, it had very minor issues (shower door had a crack in it, toilet tank leaked a bit of water near the handle when it was flushed, circuit breaker tripped once during the week), but it suited our needs perfectly, and Mr. Awadalla was very helpful (including when we accidentally left the keys in the apartment as we headed out for the day and needed him to let us back in) and friendly to us.
The bedroom is a decent size and the bed was comfortable. My kids slept on the pull-out sofa bed and had no complaints. TV had DishTV and plenty of viewing options during the few times we were in for the night. The kitchen was a decent size and had plenty of dishware, flatware, pots and pans. Also had a microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. The bathroom is small, but we had no issues. Extra towels were available in the hall closet as needed.
The street is a quiet one-way street, so traffic noise was rare, and we easily found street parking just a few doors down from the apartment. The apartment was also within a block or three of more than a dozen restaurants (including a FANTASTIC BBQ place called The Strand), a laundromat, a Dunkin Donut shop, a bakery, and a grocery store. The subway was an easy walk for my family of four, including two tweens that hate walking anywhere.
Overall, I highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants to be close to Manhattan without paying Manhattan prices.
Loved the area and the property. It's clean, comfortable, we felt safe, and the owner is very attentive. Good location to go back to after a busy day in Manhattan. Tons of restaurants of every variety. Very nice diverse neighborhood. Short walk to subway on Broadway and 30th. Got to the city with ease. I would want to stay here again next year when my niece graduates from college.
Great host;very helpful and accommodating;Great location;short walk to subway station;Good value for NYC. Would stay again when visiting NYC. Ron&Elaine
Very quiet, clean, convenient, close to stores, restaurants and sites. I'm a native New Yorker so the parking although alternate is NOT A PROBLEM. Nice neighborhood. The lady of the house was very attentive and has become a friend. I will always stay here it's like being at home. The apartment is very spacious for a New York apartment especially the kitchen and living room. I recommend this apartment and the convenience to walk around, public transportation or rent a vehicle. Everyone is willing to help you if you are not sure or get lost. New Yorkers are willing to help you. Can't wait to go back!!!
