About Hollis Bewley
My husband had been going to Stinson since he was a boy, visiting the cabin built by his grandparents and family. We've enjoyed running the trails that begin in town and climb up Mt Tam (he ran - I saunter), walking the beach at low tide and enjoying the birds and wildlife for many years and enjoy sharing the Stinson experience with others.
Hollis Bewley purchased this House in 1954
Why Hollis Bewley chose Marin County
This cottage was built by my husband's grandparents and family over 60 years ago. He redesigned the place for his parents as full-time residents in the late '80's, tearing off the roof, adding a large loft space and skylights and building custom cabinets and drawers for all of their stuff. Our family continues to enjoy spending time here
What makes this House unique
Hiking and running the classic trails of Mt. Tamalpais (the Matt Davis and Steep Ravine trails are favorites), surfing Stinson Beach and Bolinas, climbing on Stinson's quality 'bouldering rocks', bird and seal watching at the Bolinas Lagoon, getting a burger at the Parkside Cafe, exploring the sand dunes and hiking to 'The Rocks' at the south end of Stinson Beach. Relaxing and reading by the fireplace on a winter day, moon light walks on smooth sand all the way to Bolinas (2.5 miles), finding shells and polished rocks on the beach. Everything is only a short walk away. Your car can stay parked while you enjoy the beach or mountain.

Fantastic!
The home was wonderful and better than we even thought it would be! Great family home!
Many thanks, Andi! And thanks so much for leaving it just as you found it - much appreciated! You guys are awesome and I hope you're able to return someday
Peaceful and relaxing
My husband, son, myself and our Chocolate lab Rocky spend a couple of nights at this home. The location was outstanding, truly 30 yards to the beach. It is very pet friendly!!! They have brushes at the front door to clean the pups feet, water dishes, etc. It was spacious and cozy. The wood burning stove was so nice in the cool January weather. Loved it!!!
Relaxing escape
We were 2 old couples and 1 old dog off for a week away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, and we loved this place! Imagine strolling 30 feet down a sandy lane to the best part of Stinson beach. You don't even need shoes! We set up our beach spot within easy walking distance of the cottage as well as the cute little downtown and then let the relaxation begin. And it did, all week long.
Jerry and Hollis met us to show us around the cottage, and we had everything we needed to cook the many meals we enjoyed together. There was plenty of space to hang out, especially when utilizing what we called 'the napping loft.' The loft space is just above the main living area, and is furnished with daybeds and a big, comfortable recliner. One can rest and read while listening to the conversation going on below, and choose whether to chime in or nod off. It so nice to be able to fall asleep to the sounds of loved ones talking!
We could also walk to dinner, which freed us up to enjoy wine with our meals. The small grocery store had all the basics, and the bike rental place is right down the street. (They also rent snorkeling gear.) In fact, we only used our cars once or twice the whole week, when we wanted to explore further north.
Highly recommended for those in search of a relaxing beach getaway!
Thanks so much for the lovely review. Your description of the "napping loft" resonated with us since that's how we use it too, though families with kids enjoy the slightly separate living space it gives them : -) We so enjoyed meeting all five of you and hope you'll think of us if you return - Jerry & Hollis
Perfect weekend
This cottage is right off of the beach and is easy walking distance to the center of town. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The owner, Jerry, met us there to show us around and make sure we had everything we needed. He was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We would love to go back!
Perfect for a weekend getaway!
We came here for a little weekend getaway and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The cottage is charming, cozy and full of conveniences that made our stay comfortable and very relaxing. Just steps away from the beach and a stones throw from hiking trails, we really enjoyed our weekend here. (Our little dog also had a blast and we appreciated the outdoor shower with hot water for easy clean up after spending the day on the beach.) Jerry, the property owner, was extremely helpful and has really thought of everything to make your stay here fun and enjoyable.
excellent beach getaway
Our family of 4 plus dog had a wonderfully relaxing time staying in this sweet cottage. It was enough space we didn't feel like we were on top of each other but still cozy. My girls loved the loft and spent lots of time up there doing their own thing. The kitchen was well equipped. Location is excellent as you are only 80 (kid) steps from the sand AND only a hop skip and jump from town to grab more eggs or get a cup of coffee. You can also walk to the trailhead of amazing hikes into the hills. (Matt Davis Trail and Coast Trail) Jerry does a great job of providing you with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable.
Location
30 minute drive to Point Reyes National Seashore and 20 minutes to the tall redwoods of Muir Woods. Trails from town lead to fantastic hiking on Mt Tamalpais. Short scenic drives or local transit take you to various trail heads that offer some of the best trail running in California. Mountain bike trails are great - Mt Tam is the birthplace of mountain bikes. Many nearby trails are 'dogs on leash friendly'. The Golden Gate Bridge is a 30 minute drive so day trips to the city are easily within range.
