House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 7+)
We were mesmerized with the beauty of the Caribbean water, the sky and the island of Ambergris Caye. This was a place where we knew we wanted to be. Our varied backgrounds includes design and building, and we wanted to build a home that was a 'work of art and spirituality', to be shared with all who chose to visit.

Why Owner chose San Pedro
Belize is a land of many different cultures living in an unusually harmonious way. English is the official language and the country is governed according to English Law. It is a land of astounding beauty, and one of the last parts of the Caribbean to be fully explored.

We vacationed with our five children (ages 12,11,9,7 & 4) at Casa Rana. Its takes a lot of planning with small kids and Richard helped ease this burden by his recommendations and assistance of how to travel to the island, renting a golf cart, ordering food and planning excursions.
We traveled via water taxi to the island and were welcomed by Richard and James at the dock. It takes a little over and hour to get there but the scenery is beautiful and on our return trip we were able to see two dolphins.
Our favorites included, the pool where we spent most of our time, fishing on the dock with James (our son caught a nurse shark, eel and sting ray-everything he shouldn't have), snorkeling, playing with new friends, secret beach-ceveche, the Truck Stop and of course Bea's cooking.
This vacation was amazing. Richard and James were so helpful in advising us where to eat or not to. It was so nice to have their help instead of guessing our way around.
Beautiful house in paradise
We had a wonderful time staying at Casa Rana. It is well located for those who want to have access (via golf cart or boat taxi) to San Pedro but prefer to spend most of the time away from the hustle and bustle downtown. The house is beautiful - you can tell the care that went into designing and decorating the home. And Bea and James, who provide day to day care for the house, are friendly and happy to answer questions. Richard told us in advance to expect some sea grass right at the water’s edge, and that was true, but there are plenty of options for swimming both at the house and nearby (secret beach is close as well, although crowded, so we didn’t spend time there). Overall a good choice for those who want an escape in paradise.
Luxury beach house with concierge services
Our family of 5 and my parents stayed here. The accommodations were excellent. The home had plenty of room for all of us to sleep comfortably. Our kids loved having the dip pool!
Prior to arriving, Richard was quick to respond to us any time we had questions. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Richard and Diane (the owners) as well as James. James took our luggage to the home and Diane and Richard gave us a tour. Upon the recommendation of Richard, we had Bea (James’ wife) cook dinner for us. It was a traditional Belizean meal. Her meal was amazing!! Excellent quality food and lots of it! Richard and Diane as well as James and Bea have houses on the property. They are there if you need them, but stay out of the way if you don’t. The view is spectacular. We highly recommend watching the sunrise from the patio on the second floor. We loved that the house is right on the ocean. Because of the amount of sargassum, we weren’t really wanting to just walk into the ocean and swim. It was fine though because one of our favorite spots was hanging out on the dock. We fished with James several times. He is very knowledgeable and would filet the fish if you wanted to eat it. We scheduled two snorkeling trips and they were coordinated for us by Richard/James. Also, they coordinated our golf cart rentals for us and they were delivered to the house. Again, I mentioned concierge service because these are things not typical with a VRBO rental. Bea even cleaned the house every day and offered to wash our clothes for us! What service. Not only that, they are just lovely people. Our girls enjoyed having James and Bea’s daughter over to swim with us (we invited her). All in all, we truly had a relaxing and enjoyable time at Casa Rana. If you stay here, you must have Bea cook meals for you and have James fish with you - some of our favorite highlights! Also, James cleaned out some conch shells for us to bring home as souvenirs. So fun and glad we chose to stay here!
The perfect vacation
We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Ambergris Caye. Richard was so attentive and thought of everything. Casa Rana is a beautiful home and we spent many hours enjoying the dock. The guys caught a ton of fish! James was so helpful with everything from fishing, excursions, tips for visiting town, he even got us fresh coconut water from trees on the property!
The meals that Bea cooked for us were amazing! The Belizean chicken, shrimp stir fry, key lime pie, brownies... oh my! She also worked hard cleaning the house each day. I wish I had Bea home with me now!! Their children were darling. Having them all living behind the property made us feel safe and secure.
We loved our snorkel trips to HolChan and the Beach BBQ. The guys went on a Bonefish fly fishing trip and had a blast. We also had a great time at Secret Beach.
Make sure to rent a golf cart and enjoy the bumpy golf cart trip to town! San Pedro has some great restaurants and everyone was very friendly.
Also, don’t forget to pack bug spray and anti-itch. The mosquitos are no joke.
We had a great time at Casa Rana and would highly recommend!
Richard, Diana, James and Bea could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. Everything was taken care of from boat transfers to meal options. James took care of everything for us on a daily basis including helping our boys fish from the pier and the area outback. Bea’s idea of light house keeping is what I consider “cleaning” at home. She spoiled us. And yes, the reviews about her key lime pie are all true! Her food is as good as anything you will find in town and won’t “visit” you for days after... Make sure to prestock with groceries. Yes, the comments about the prices being expensive are true. If you rent a golf cart, you don’t have to overstock. It sure was nice not to have to lug grocery bags down the very bumpy road in the heat or try to find what you want at various stores. Besides, they are all put away and chilled for you when you get there, so what more can you ask for? Regrettably, we did not snorkel from the pier, due to a little more wind than normal. On the last day you could tell that this could be a very nice option for those that wanted too. That same wind kept bugs at bay, so no complaints here. The snorkeling trip to the marine reserve is a great day trip as was the beach lunch that Richard set up. Richard is a great wealth of information and is extremely helpful. We would have liked to spend more time with Richard and Diana but circumstances did not allow. We will go back! It was one of our only family vacations that we all could have stayed a couple more days. That doesn’t happen with this crew! As far as the accommodations, we had everything we needed. I found myself thinking how wasteful we are at home. It’s was a great reality check. Casa Rana is probably one of the best places to stay on the entire caye. Everyone reserves here. If that is something you can’t do, then this isn’t the place (meaning Ambergris Caye) for you. That is what is so magical about it. It hasn’t been ruined by humans...yet.
Our family had a wonderful time visiting Belize and staying at Casa Rana for Christmas. The home is beautiful and James and Bea were very attentive. We especially loved her cooking, some of the best fish we have ever eaten. Richard and Diane were easy to deal with and made our trip truly memorable.
