Why the Owner Chose San Pedro: Belize is a land of many different cultures living in an unusually harmonious way. English is the official language and the country is governed according to English Law. It is a land of astounding beauty, and one of the last parts of the Caribbean to be fully explored. We were mesmerized with the beauty of the Caribbean water, the sky and the island of Ambergris Caye. This was a place where we knew we wanted to be. Our varied backgrounds includes (among other professions) design and building, and we wanted to build a home that was a 'work of art and spirituality', to be shared with all who chose to visit.

Recent stay at Casa Rana

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 and I recently stayed a week here and it was everything and more! Richard did a great job lining up all of our daily adventures, we did it ALL as an active family! Diana did a wonderful job on the home, it has everything you need and they are great at making sure you have all you need, wonderful hosts. James and Bea (property employees) were VERY helpful as well... James helped educate my kids on the island, they fished, cleaned conch shells, snorkeled right at the dock (they have their own man-made reef)… And Bea is a phenomenal cook!!! She cooked for us two of the nights (was amazing), we went out to Mambo a couple nights (was great) and we cooked the fish we caught a couple nights. In hindsight we would have used Bea more. It was a wonderful family vacation and it is everything they described and more.

Absolutely Gorgeous Home

  • 4 of 5

Stunning home with spectacular views located north of San Pedro. The house was stunning and easily accommodated six women. The views and sunrises are amazing. The house is spectacularly decorated.

The booking process was very easy with Richard's constant guidance/help. He was great at making recommendations and talking through ideas with me. I also appreciate his concern for our safety once we arrived on the island. As a very seasoned traveler, it was nice to know they were looking out for us but (for me) was a bit overbearing. They had recommendations for companies/people to use but I mostly found our own way.

Bea and James (caretakers) were fabulous. Bea's cooking was delicious. Highly suggest listening to Richard and having Bea cook dinner at least your first night. We hired her for two other nights also. (price $20-30/person). You can't eat out for less than that! They even cooked the fish that we caught and fixed a special birthday dinner (cake and brownies). The key lime pie was amazing.

A few notes about the property:

1. It's 7 miles north of town. If you are looking to be where the 'action' is this isn't the place for you. If you want a tranquil vacation with amazing views then this house is definitely for you.

2. Based on 1 above, I suggest a golf cart rental. We rented a cart and used it to go to town almost every day. The road from the house is not paved and is full of pot holes (so go slow). Road becomes paved about four miles from the house (where the Wyndham is being built)

3. There is no a/c in the living areas (living, kitchen, dining). The living area especially can be very warm. But why are you inside anyway? There is a constant breeze on the front porch or side deck...or head down to the dock.

4. The furnishings and bedding in the house are very nice. I really enjoyed the decor.

5. Eat at Mambo when you want to go out. It's convenient and they will pick you up. Don't eat at Temple Run (walking distance down the beach).

6. Sleep with your windows/sliding glass doors open and wake up each morning for a beautiful sunrise. Each morning I walked out on the balcony and took pictures.

7. Tour companies (fishing/diving) will charge extra to pick you up at the dock b/c of the distance from town.

8. Dive/snorkel/fish with Island Divers Belize. Rudy was incredible for both our diving and snorkeling trips.

Most of all, relax and enjoy!

A slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I along with 2 other couples had the pleasure to spend a week at Casa Rana. I did a lot of research regarding where to stay as well as reading hours of reviews on many different properties located on the island. I will say as far as the reviews on this particular property they are spot on. The house itself is vey beautiful and relaxing and exactly what I had hoped for. Getting to know Richard and Diana along with the caretakers James and Bea was such a privilege. When you read about the dinners Bea cooks such as her Belizean dinner and key lime pie that is no exaggeration. We had her cook 2 meals for us but doing it over again I would probably have her cook at least one more. The reason is Richard gave us some suggestions for restaurants in town. that were outstanding. I highly suggest you take his opinion and check them out. I could go on and on with all the good times we had at Casa but I will let you know what I would do if I was to go again. El Gato snorkeling is a must. It is an all day trip but well worth the money and experience. You are about 7 miles or so from town. Taxi drive for the six of us one way was 50.00. If all six of us would have taken the water taxi one way it would of been 72.00. The point I'm trying to make is if you are going to want to venture in town and other areas on the island, (which I recommend) I would have Richard reserve a golf cart at least for 3 to 4 days. It is well worth the cost and gives you a lot of options during your stay. We had some groceries delivered before we arrived and that is a good idea. We kept it simple and mostly ordered breakfast food. Dinners was either from Bea or out to a restaurant . When ordering groceries on line or if you need more during the week can be quite costly especially if they deliver. Again a golf cart is the way to go so you can get your own groceries and save a lot. The week went by so fast and was everything we hoped for. Richard , Diana, James and Bea are there as much or little as you want. They give you all the privacy you hope for but will do anything for you to make your trip a memory. The one memory I personally can take away is fishing with my friend James . Either in the mornings or evenings with a cocktail in my hand he and I just having a great time together. Fishing is very good by the way right off the dock. James will hook you up and take care of everything. TRUST ME !! No need to look further than Casa Ra

Casa Rana

  • 5 of 5

We’d like to second the positive reviews which have been left on VRBO and the Casa Rana website. Richard and Diana and their caretakers James and Bea provided reassuring guidance and assistance with just about everything we did during our one week stay. I hesitate to use the word “concierge” because it connotes a much more impersonal relationship that the one we had with them. They were present on the shared property of the rental plus their two homes but they were absolutely non-intrusive. Equally important is their attempt to have their property occupy an ecological and low carbon footprint through water conservation, recycling, and horticultural plantings throughout the property. We felt that being far away from San Pedro was an advantage as it offered little that was beautiful or unique in the Caribbean and neither was having a rental golf cart missed. The transportation arrangements which Richard helped make for us provided seamless pick-up at the airport and delivery to a private water taxi that took us directly to the dock and, in the process, offered a nice glimpse into the island landscapes that you don’t get from the beach at Casa Rana. Although our group was all adults, the house would be a safe and engaging place for kids, provided they have the capacity to entertain themselves exploring the natural world

Beautiful Home, Relaxing Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed for 6 nights at Casa Rana. The home was everything we had hoped it would be. The owners (Richard and Diana) were wonderful. They made sure we had everything we needed and made arrangements for all of the activities we did. Everything they recommended, whether it be dining or activities, was fantastic. Their hospitality made the trip more enjoyable and stress free. James and Bea were also great. James took the time to fish with us on several occasions. Keeping our hooks baited and cleaning anything we wanted to keep and eat. He keeps the property looking beautiful and was always making sure we had whatever we needed. Bea kept the house super clean and her cooking was phenomenal. We ate at several restaurants that were great but her cooking was better than all of them. She is a gifted cook and I highly recommend having her prepare several meals while there. The snorkeling tour that Richard recommended was the highlight of the trip and a must do in our opinion. I would also recommend renting a golf cart while there. It's very convenient for trips into town or going to one of the nearby restaurants. In summary, we would highly recommend staying at Casa Rana. I can't imagine that there is a more beautiful home or more gracious hosts in all of Belize. Thanks again to Richard, Diana, Bea and James for a wonderful stay that our family will remember for a lifetime!
