Guestbook comments from the owner

Glad you loved the home. Sorry for the tattered towels! We have inspected all our linens and repalced any items showing wear. Just to be sure, anything even slightly in question got an early retirement!

Thanks for your comments!

Lovely décor, unbelievable views with lots of welcome breezes, confortable space

  • 5 of 5

Great rental with teenagers who want personal space. Very relaxing, beautiful, comfortable. Parking was less than ideal and the walkable beach was disappointing but Reid State Park and Popham Beach State Park are lovely! Make sure to bring enough water you can drink and food supplies; it was far by our standards to provisions we wanted to buy. Keith was responsive and easy to deal with via email.

Beautiful view, very relaxing and peaceful. Needed no a/c and no TV. We especially enjoyed the inside porch area. Had one small problem, spoke to Keith and Valarie and it was taken care of quickly. We were able to have day trips and return "home" each evening. A vacation we will all remember!

Beautiful, well kept, family friendly home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this home with our two daughters, ages 3.5 and 14 months, and my aunt and uncle. From the stand point of a mother of two young children this home could not have been more perfect. I think it was actually more baby-proofed than my own home! There were baby gates, covers on the electrical sockets, and kid gear galore (plates, cups, utensils, toys, games, and a pack'n'play to name just a few). The layout was ideal for our vacation. When the kids were playing on the main floor we could see them from just about anywhere. My aunt and uncle took the upstairs master and said it was a magical, restful retreat (maybe because the kids were downstairs?) and the bathroom was their favorite part. There was even a pocket door that enabled us to shut out the early morning noise from reaching upstairs. The queen bedroom was tucked away nicely for the baby's midday naps and earlier bedtime. My favorite was the dining/sunroom where we shared many memorable meals with family and played, all while enjoying the amazing views. There are amazing views from every room and huge windows that let in the breezes. The deck is great to relax on and the kitchen was well set up for cooking meals. Oh, and I can't forget the THREE bathrooms! That sure made getting ready to go out easy.

We had a great time!

Beautiful sunsets and views across the Kennebec.

  • 5 of 5

Very well maintained and clean cottage. The second floor porch is the perfect spot for morning coffee, to enjoy a good book or take a nap. The breeze off the water was refreshing with all of the heat this week. Close to all our favorite spots: Popham beach, Anna's Waterfront Restaurant, Bath Sweet Shoppe and the Mustard Seed Bookstore.

So much good and yet...

  • 4 of 5

This home has so much going for it and yet falls far short of a five out of five. Poor effort to make a visitors stay comfortable and easy is what holds her back. Amazing views, charming decor, comfortable beds are all to be found in the home. The master bedroom was amazing with it's own porch and view of the water! It also had one of the most interesting bathrooms I've seen. It's connected to the bedroom via a tunnel of sorts. We called it the Hobbit hole. But again this only added to the charm but might be a problem for someone with back issues. Some of the curtains and furnishings are starting to show wear but this was easy to overlook when you had amazing view beyond them.

So what holds the home back from five stars for me and perhaps even lower for some of the other guests? The home has three bedrooms and three bathrooms and sleeps 6 guests. We had five people with us for our visit and we found three towels and three wash cloths in the entire home! This wouldn't be a problem if the listing advised of this but it says linens provided. We found used soap in one of the showers... yuk and after a long day on the road and a rather late check in of 4 pm we found we all got to make the beds throughout the home. Not a great way to start your week. Clean bedding was provided but not installed. Parking was also very tight. Finally, trash is to be collected and dropped off at a collection center that's only open on certain days and certain hours. This can make departing for home early or on a day they're closed very difficult.

All in all we had a great trip. Just wish the owners would spend another twenty dollars on towels and pay someone to make the beds and remove the trash. If they would this home would be a five out of five any day of the week.

Owner's Response: Ryan, We are so sorry we could not meet your expectations for a five star rental. I agree...someone else's soap found in the tray is a bit icky to say the least. We have addressed this with our cleaning service and they assured us it will not happen again. As far as the towels go, our housekeeper leaves a corresponding number of towels for the number of guests staying at the cottage. Obviously this did not happen during your stay and we apologize. Should you choose to stay with us again, a phone call to our housekeeper or to us will easily remedy problems of this nature. I wish we had known and would have gladly taken care of this. We are VERY responsive to the needs of our guests and quick to answer problems and concerns sent to us via phone call, text, and/or email. However, the fault is ours as the correct number of towels were not there to begin with. As far as the beds not being made on check-in, there is a method behind our madness :-) We leave the clean, laundered bedding on each of the beds in the home so guests know they are arriving to just that: clean, fresh linens. When beds are already made there is always the potential for folks to question whether the sheets have been cleaned from previous guests, so we do not have have the beds made up for that very reason. Finally, the trash. Georgetown is a small community and the dump serves about 1,000 folks. Because of that they do not have extensive operating hours. Wed, Fri, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM is all we are offered from the town. If we leave trash removal to the housekeeper it increases our cleaning fees so we leave it up to the guests to hit the transfer station on their way out of town (it is on the way when heading off island) to keep costs down. If folks have to depart on a day the dump is not open, our housekeeper can sometimes find a way to gain access to the transfer station to accommodate. Again, in the future please let us know about situations like this and we’ll do our best to figure something out. Again, I am sorry we could not cut the mustard to earn a five star review from you. We will do our best to learn from your review and make the home better for those coming after you. We thank you for your review and if your plans take you back to Maine we would love to have you back again. Best, Keith and Valori

Quiet, well appointed, beautiful views.

  • 5 of 5

Like all previous reviewers, we loved this place. There's not much to add, but I'll mention a few things: Super comfortable bed, and a very well appointed kitchen. Vacation rentals usually have a sorry array of pots, pans and utensils; we were happy to find a kitchen fully stocked with quality cookware, sharp knives, and plenty of plates and glasses. The well tended flower garden was also a nice touch.

I particularly enjoyed an early cup of coffee on the porch looking across the river with no sound except the seabirds. What a relaxing vacation.
