About Ame Hellman

Ame Hellman and her husband Doug, a master builder for Ilex Construction, purchased Adaven Farm in 2005 and embarked on a serious 'restoration' of the historical property. In addition to the farmhouse, guest house, cow barn guest house and grounds, the farm serves as a home to competition dressage horses. A native to Virginia, Ame headed west to attend college and law school where she met her husband Doug, a Nevada native. Prior to returning to the Commonwealth, the couple spent years looking for the perfect location and property--finding Adaven farm was just that.

Ame Hellman purchased this house in 2005

Why Ame Hellman chose Virginia

The Somerset Estate District boasts some of the most historic and picturesque farms in Virginia. The Virginia Outdoor Foundation holds many conservation easements around Adaven Farm--and the surrounding area reflects most residents' desire to protect its natural character. Adaven Farm is protected by an easement as well. Nature hikes, birding and serenity abound and the 'cow barn' is truly a luxurious experience.

What makes this house unique

Great character, historical charm, proximity to Charlottesville and historical sites, wineries and gourmet restaurants make this a truly unique property to rent.

Breathtaking views and absolute serenity

  • 5 of 5

My wife and 2 daughters selected this property based on the beautiful photos. The home and property is even better in person! We came for relaxation and this location did not disappoint. Surrounded by beautiful fencing, this horse farm has picture perfect views in every direction. We were able to dine on the porch most days for breakfast or dinner. We enjoyed a nice wooded walk on the property up to top of a nearby mountain. Lastly, the interior of the home is beautiful, was well appointed and had great charm. This home is a hidden gem. The property is somewhat "rural" and there is no wifi so don't come for hustle and bustle or work; Come here to unwind. You don't even need to leave the property! Its close enough to Charlottesville to enjoy activities and then head home for luxurious relaxation. We love, love, loved it here! Would definitely stay again.

Owner's Response: Mason and family, Thank you so much for your wonderful review--we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the farm in the "cow barn~!" Yes, please come back again--spring is gorgeous on the farm, as you can imagine--red buds and dogwoods abound and a little bit of down time, off the grid is perfect that time of the year. Best, Ame Hellman

5 stars!

  • 5 of 5

Five stars! The guest house was immaculate with every detail finely appointed. The same also can be said for the property at large – truly a show place among the VA horse country farms. The serenity of this location allowed for private mountain hikes and nature watching as well as comfortable patio chairs for reading and relaxing. The owners were extremely accommodating and insightful while we were planning our weekend itinerary. The vineyards in Barboursville, Pomme Restaurant in Gordonsville and the many attractions of nearby Charlottesville can easily fill a long weekend. Of course, the main attraction for us was spending a day at leisure on one of the most beautiful properties in the Shenandoah Valley. We can’t wait to return soon!
