BEACHFRONT Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 3 Queen beds (sleeps 4)
About Brian Anderson
Dad of 3 daughters (17, 15 and 10) who enjoys an active lifestyle, has a huge appreciation for other cultures, and loves adventure. We LOVE Cabarete because we get all of this, with no touristy or commercial feel.
Brian Anderson purchased this Condo in 2006
Why Brian Anderson chose Cabarete
We discovered Cabarete after reading an article in Islands Magazine and said 'We have to go there!' It was everything we had hoped for because we love vacationing in places that are non-touristy and is an adventurous yet safe place to be. Also, we were blown away by the kite surfing/water sport ambiance which seems to great people who enjoy an active lifestyle and like to meet cool people from all walks of life. We also really like the local Dominican people who are warm and friendly!

Unit 610 from 3/12 - 3/26
We really loved the location and unit. It could use a few improvements as dish washer did not work but that was not a problem to us. A few more screens would be nice and only 3 chairs on deck area and one of them needs repairs. Everyone was easy to work with and very friendly.
Excellent complex, mediocre unit
This lovely 20 unit complex is well maintained, secure and perfectly situated for kiting. The pool is cleaned daily and the grounds are immaculate. However, this ground floor unit is in desperate need of a refresh and better housekeeping. Bedding was threadbare and stained. The air conditioning was loud and, worse, there was an AC unit for another apartment right outside master bedroom window which was even louder. There were no screens in the windows but we did find them in a closet and installed ourselves (same goes for kitchen table cushions we happened to find stacked high on top of washer/dryer). It would have been nice to arrive and have these things in place or at least mention of them in the instruction booklet. Bedroom sliding door was cracked and needs replacing. Also, there wasn't a speck of detergent for laundry, extra dish towels, extra toilet paper etc. which would be nice when someone is staying for only one week (zero paper towels). The furniture was sagging and worn inside and one of the patio chairs was completely broken. Speaking with other guests, it was clear other apartments are better managed and in better shape.
We sincerely apologize for the issues you experienced during your stay. After you departed on Jan 9, I flew to the DR on Jan 15 to address the issues you encountered / reported. We hired a new management company. We brought brand new, high-quality bed sheets (800 thread count) from the U.S. for all 3 queen-sized beds. We made adjustments to the A/C and ceiling fan to make them quieter. We replaced the sliding glass door and installed new wheels and handles on the sliding glass door. I am still at the condo (Jan 22) and I'm happy to report that everything looks great and works well.
As for extra dish towels and cushions for the kitchen chairs, those items were in our condo when you were here. They are in drawers near the kitchen. I will add a note explaining their location to our arrival / instruction booklet. Thanks for the suggestion.
As for your complaint about paper towels, extra toilet paper and laundry detergent, these items are not included with our place. There is always toilet paper and soap in the bathrooms when our guests arrive, sufficient for the first couple of days. When these items run out, our guests simply go to the store and purchase additional toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. We believe this is normal for rental properties. There are 4 grocery stores within 10 minutes of our condo, so it's quite easy.
Beautiful views, quiet propery and excellent location for kiters!
My husband and boys kite surf and this spot was perfect. Just a quick walk down the beach to "Go Kiting" (which we also highly recommend) and a short walk to several beach restaurants. The gated community felt safe and the vibe was very low key; which is exactly what we were looking for. Brian shared a great list of things to do and places to go as well as helpful advice for our stay. We communicated with him several times with different questions prior to and during our trip and he was always available and responsive. Our family voted this spot the best vacation ever. Thanks Brian!
Awesome Kite Beach Condo!!!
Brian’s place was awesome! It is a first-floor unit with a massive terrace that opens right up to a super nice pool deck. Walk a few more feet and you are literally on the beach where you can launch your kite. For kiters, this place is an absolutely must! Sky Reef Kite Company sits in a small booth on property. Nelson, who owns the business, is an awesome guy and you can rent all your equipment right from him – kites, boards, surfboards, etc.
Brian’s place has a fully stocked kitchen with utensils, plates, cookware, and glasses. We cooked about half our meals there. The staff at the condo is great and really helpful. They gave us replacement light bulbs and helped us out with transportation and other services. The Security guys are also great and super friendly. There are always two full-time guards on site. We never felt unsafe or afraid to leave our things on the terrace or pool deck.
Cabareef is a super chill and tranquil spot. Do not expect to come here and party like spring breakers. It’s more of a middle aged, respectful scene. We work remote, so we lived on the Wi-Fi. It was pretty good for the DR. We worked several hours each day both from Brian’s terrace and the cabana at the pool. If you are new to Cab, the wind doesn't really pick up until lunch time. So, you can get up early and crush 4-5 hours of work with no FOMO, then grab lunch at the condo or one of the cafes just walking distance up the beach, kite the rest of the day, and head into town for dinner. If the Wi-Fi ever gets spotty, just bring your laptop to Taina Bar or the Vitamin D café just 50 yards down the beach.
OK SERIOUSLY, STOP READING AND BOOK THIS PLACE ALREADY!!!!
So glad you had a great trip, Bill. This review makes me smile ... and makes me want to go back to Cabarete soon. I miss it!
Great location, great beach
We had a great time at Brian's condo, but it wasn't without issues. There were numerous problems when we arrived, however after i reached Brian, most things were taken care of. You have to remember its the Dominican, and things get "patched", not repaired. A few of the issues: 1) water leaking through the light fixture in second bathroom 2 ) toilet seat in same bathroom is something where you are afraid to sit on it, needs replacing 3) sliding doors missing screens 4) broken kitchen utensils and left in drawer, had to buy our own fry pan 5) cushions on couch in living room are worn, very uncomfortable 6) very old tv...we weren't there for tv but wanted to watch some of the Olympics.
The deck around the pool area was dangerous. Boards that were once screwed down are no longer. This is an area that's needs attention.
Beds were small but comfortable. Large, spacious condo, very friendly staff.
Ian - I am truly sorry that you experienced some challenging issues. There just seemed to be an unfortunate combination of things go wrong on your trip. Since your stay, I have worked with the staff and maintenance team to correct all issues. The TV during your stay was a loaner, because my large, modern TV had recently broken. But my TV has now been repaired and returned to my condo. The pool deck is soon being replaced with a beautiful new pool deck, an exciting project that has been designed and approved by the homeowners!
I am also flying to the DR in 3 weeks to personally make sure that everything is repaired and in top condition. For your troubles, I will gladly give you a free week in my condo if you would like to return.
Outstanding! Loved everything about it.
