Cretan Life after successfully completing the renovation of the “Vista Del Porto Grand Suite” (Listing #270153) has also renovated a large three bedroom luxurious villa in Chania Old Town..
Villa Dionysia, which is located in the Turkish Quarter of the Old Town of Chania. has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and access to the roof terrace, from where there will be panoramic views of the Old Harbour as well as the White Mountains.
Villa Dionysia is considered to be one of the best renovation projects around the Old Town of Chania, as it was described by people walking by, including students from the Architectural Department of the University of Crete.
The house was purchased in 2007, and due to its location and the history behind it had to obtain a great number of permits from both the Archaeological Department and the Building Authorities of Chania before renovations could begin, so the renovation of the villa started only in October 2008 and it took place in three different stages, with last and largest one starting in March 2010. During the renovation, we replaced almost everything in the house, but we kept its historic and traditional character and tried to match it with some modern features and facilities such as the roof garden. The old flat terrace had not been used much in the past and it wasn’t until we climbed up there and saw how beautiful the views were, so we decided to make the most from it. Now, one can have panoramic views to the Venetian Harbour; the White Mountains and across the Old Town of Chania.
Internally the house looks incredible. The plan was to show all the old stone features, including all old stone window sills; all the stone work around all doors and windows as well as new and old arches. The internal north side stone wall of the building remains at its original state. All these stone works are accompanied by real oak wooden floors in the 3 bedrooms and the living room; travertine/marble bathrooms, limestone floors in the kitchen and the lounge areas; fine-looking custom made oak kitchen and wardrobes as well as cast iron hand made staircase and light fittings. The terrace with the spectacular views to the harbour and across the old Turkish Quarter and Saint Nicholas church are covered with limestone; and have a sitting/sunbathing area for relaxation surrounded by mature trees; jasmine and bougainvillea. Due to its location (on three corners) the villa has light and fresh air from three sides.
The ground floor consists of one bathroom and a storage area; the first floor consists of the master bedroom and the master bathroom; the second bedroom and a sitting area, and the second floor consists of the third bedroom, and the open-plan lounge, living area and kitchen. It also has access to the roof terrace with glass-roof entrance.
The master bedroom will has a king size bed; a large vanity unit; oak wardrobes and bed-side cabinets, whereas the second bedroom, which used to be the old kitchen has a double bed; a large vanity unit, which used to be the old stone baking oven; oak wardrobes and bed-side cabinets. Finally, the third bedroom has two single beds; wardrobes and a bed side cabinet between the two beds. All bedrooms have wi-fi internet, satellite TVs; A/C units; electric heaters and beddings.
In the living room the villa has a large plasma satellite TV; an iPod docking system; DVD player; A/C; electric heater and a gas stove. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, coffee-maker, dish-washer, washing machine and a big fridge-freezer.
All bathrooms are fully equipped with a shower (in both rooms), and a bathtub in the master bathroom. In both bath rooms we have electric heated towel rails.
The roof terrace is furnished with sun-beds, settees and a dining table with chairs.
Parking is also available in the small square next to the house.
The villa is within a very short walking distance to the port as well as three small sandy beaches in the Koum Kapi area (east of the Venetian Harbour) and about fifteen minutes’ walk to the beach at Nea Hora, which has a fantastic marina (west of the Venetian Harbour).

I am an entrepreneur with a passion for interior design, which is reflected in the renovation project of Villa Dionysia. I have 4 children and i am currently based in Cheshire. I enjoy travelling to Crete and have a second home here. I have been visiting Crete since 2002.
Denise Clarke-Williams purchased this villa in 2007
Crete is an amazing place, with delicious food, friendly people and amazing features, such as the White Mountains and sandy beaches. It is ideal as it is not too far away from England and the atmosphere is always buzzing. Villa Dionysia is situated in Chania Old Town, where traditional Greek values are still present.
Villa Dionysia is modern yet simultaneously provides a traditional touch as it is situated in Chania Old Town. The standard of the renovation is high throughout, whilst retaining the original architecture. It was purchased in 2007 and is now fully finished. There are many benefits to Villa Dionysia, such as the short walk to the beach in Chania. It is also extremely close to the harbour and the restaurants, where there is a buzzing atmosphere every night. From the roof terrace of Villa Dionysia, there is panoramic views of the White Mountains and the sea.
I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Villa Dionysia.
The Villa is in the Old Town of Chania and in the height of the summer there will be noise.
Also if you opened the shutters the Villa is very light . The air conditioning units had only just been serviced so we are sorry you had a problem but this was dealt with the next day.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Crete
We spent a wonderful week in Chania in Villa Dionysian. The villa is quite simply superb, a lovely old town house that has been beautifully restored, with lots of original features still intact. It's an extremely comfortable villa, big comfy beds and a well-appointed sitting room, with lost of relaxed seating and tasteful furnishings throughout. The roof terrace is breathtaking, amazing views across Chania. Brilliantly situated in the heart of Chania Old Town, a two-minute walk from the pretty harbour, lighthouse and multitude of sea-facing, relaxed restaurants and cafes. Natalia was a great host, with lots of tips and friendly advice. Can't recommend this villa highly enough - we plan to return!
We stayed here for four nights and loved every minute of it.
The description of the villa is spot on and it was just beautiful. We felt comfortable and at home instantly. It was in a great location and close to the main road out of the town if you want to explore by car.
The owner and their assistant were very responsive and helpful. They answered all of our questions and helped book an excursions and provided great food recommendations.
There were five of us staying in the villa and there was plenty of room for all of us. We couldn't find anything to complain about. We recommend this villa for your stay!
The villa was beautiful and in an ideal location. It was easy to get around by foot and had space for car parking. The description was as described and very well maintained.
Both Denise and Andreas were contactable throughout the stay and Andreas gave us some good advice on where to eat and visit.
I would highly recommend a stay at Villa Diyonysia!
I booked this villa based on pictures and reviews on VRBO. I wish I had looked around more before finalizing this villa ! We were disappointed with this villa. Noisy neighborhood with dirty streets ! Small bathrooms , roaches , door didn't close for the master , squeaky bed , air conditioning leaking in the middle of the night on my head , need I say more ?!?:(
Very dark with hardly any sunlight !
Only plus side is proximity to the old town & restaurants , and the property manager was very helpful.
I would have preferred to stay in one of the boutique hotels in the old town rather than this villa . Please make sure what you are signing up for before you rent this villa , photos are very deceiving !
Nice three level apartment. Beautiful roof deck. 2 blocks from the old Venetian harbor. Steps to some of the best fish tavernia in Greece. House is small with very steep stairs. Not a problem for us but could be if you have young children or elderly people. Parking space for car included. Right in heart of old town. Property manager was great: full of info and completely reponsive.
Our family recently stayed at Villa Dionysia. We highly recommend the villa, Chania, Crete to any and all families. We had a wonderful trip! We are a family of four and the villa had plenty of space (there was enough space for 2 more guests). The location is perfect! The renovation is amazing and we felt honored to stay in a place that was renovated so wonderfully, with attention to every detail. Andreas, the owner/manager was incredibly helpful with recommendations of restaurants, beaches, day trips. And, he is available day and night no matter what you need. We wish we could return to Chania and to Villa Dionysia now!
