About Kirby Thwing

My grandparents bough the properties in Hawley in the 1920 and I spent summers in Hawley as a youth and my kids grew up spending vacations in Hawley, and now the grandkids come to visit.

Kirby Thwing purchased this house in 1986

Why Kirby Thwing chose Massachusetts

I bought this house for my parents to live in and planned to retire into it when they no longer needed it. I retired while they were still in it and I bought the house of my aunt and uncle, just up the road.

My cousin lives next door to me and just up the road from this rental house. He is a wealth of information about the area and the countryside. He'll be sure to stop by if you are outside.

What makes this house unique

What is unique about this area is its quiet. No stores, no street lights, no stop signs. But, there are plenty of birds, turkeys, moose, bear, deer, rabbits, hawks. You get the idea i think. The stars are very bright at night and the brook can be heard from far-away. Trees, stone walls, ponds abound. Hawley's population is a whopping 320 hearty souls. Just sitting and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature is rejuvenating.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lots of Geese and ducks on your partially snow-covered pond. Your wonderful "Flight's End" Retreat is so clean and fresh and peaceful. The brook was a cascade of white water . It was music to our ears each night - Great "White noise" for sleeping. Your fields were bare but there was still lots of snow on the wood roads for skiing. . We saw a moose!!..down on one of the pools in the Deerfield River. What a thrill!! Can't wait until our next visit next fall.

Quiet, cozy, perfect

  • 5 of 5

We'll be back. This felt like being in a family vacation cabin. Well-kept, comfortable, and amazingly quiet. Our toddler loved the big yard to run around in, as well as the train videos :)

Comfortable and relaxing accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this property! Our 2 year old son loved the brook behind the house and there were beautiful house views of the pond across the street from the reading front room. The bedrooms were all comfortable and the shared space was plenty of room for the 6 adults staying. Though the weather was rainy and we weren't able to use all the outside accommodations, there are plenty of things to do within 30 minutes. Overall, this house provided a relaxing environment to get away from fast paced life. We're already talking about coming back sometime!

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for a weekend away with friends. The weather was freezing cold, but the house was cozy and perfect for playing games inside. Nice bedrooms and bathrooms. We also took a walk over to Side Hill Farm.

Sweet country home in the Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time celebrating a small family Christmas in this lovely home. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us, and the house was clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed to make our visit memorable, including a fresh layer of snow and a sweet, little Christmas tree to enhance our festivities. We even joked that it was named "Flight's End" because it was the reindeer's last stop. We would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. My mother named it years ago because the ducks and geese were always landing on the pond, and because it is where they landed for their retirement years.

beautiful farm area/comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable home in a beautiful area.

We had a wonderful 3 days in Hawley. loved the organic farm up the road and the beautiful farming area.

My husband and I were completely comfortable ,but the kids would have liked stronger internet.

This was our 2nd visit here and liked the improvements.
