I fell in love with this cabin at the top of the mountain. Once my son started playing basketball and pursuing a college scholarship, there wasn't much time to relax in Blue Ridge and I started renting the cabin. Now others can enjoy it as much as I do!
Kelly Romich purchased this lodge in 2009
Raccoon Ridge is centrally, if not 'perfectly' located. The Toccoa River flows past the bottom of the Ridge. Sandy Bottom adventure center area (kayak, canoes and tubing) is a mile east on Aska Road. You can rent or put air in the tubes, load up the truck, drop folks off upsteam at the National Forest canoe launch and pick them up an hour and one-half later at Shallowford Bridge. For the really good fishing, drive east to the far end of the County to Cooper's Creek, also part of the National Forest. Two miles to the west are the Aska National Forest Hiking / Mountain Biking trails. There is a marked trail leading to this area through back country from Raccoon Ridge. Head east to the end of Aska road, turn right and you come to Noontoola Creek Farm which has one of the finest sport clay shooting facilites you'll find. Thirty minutes northeast you can enjoy whitewater rafting on the Ocoee river. Two hours north is Clingman's dome (the second highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains). There is a new local public golf course, Old Toccoa Farm, you can spend an afternoon in Blue Ridge or just 'chill' on the deck overlooking the valley.
Beautiful home, way above the clouds. The view from the porch is amazing. The first morning looked like we were surrounded by beautiful lakes because we were so high, making the clouds look like water. Plenty of sleeping areas, many bathrooms. Perfect for a large family gathering. Thank you Kelly for sharing your property with my family. Yes, we would come again and we would definitely tell our friends about this beautiful home.
This is a beautiful lodge. We had lots of room for all to play games and spaces for adults to watch movies. The lay out is amazing and the view is awesome from all sides. We plan to stay at this location again.
We stayed at this beautiful property for a birthday weekend. It was just what we were looking for in a weekend getaway from the city- spacious, private, and impeccable views. Kelly was great to work with and we would recommend her cabin to anyone!
This home was really beautiful! We had a large party, 8 adults and 7 kids, and there was plenty of room for everyone. Both the bedrooms upstairs had private baths, as well as the master bedroom, so that was a huge plus. Kitchen completely stocked with every utensil and more to make cooking for a large group possible. The beds were incredible, and the king in the master was literally dream worthy. So comfortable, with beautiful french doors at the foot of the bed that we left open to feel the breeze. Incredibly peaceful. Lots of extra blankets and pillows throughout the house to accommodate a large party. The owner Kelly was quick to respond to any emails, and even took the time to email me just before we came to let me know that she had just found out there were a few broken chairs around the fire pit. I appreciated that because otherwise we would not have known to bring camping chairs! That was helpful!! (there are still several adirondack chairs on the property that are not broken, the nice wooden kind. I believe there were 4 of those. Plus 4 rocking chairs on the deck) The house is on the top of a hill, secluded and quiet. Hot tub and pool table were a big hit with the kids in our group.
A few things that didn't really affect our stay, but do be aware of.... Be careful on the stairs to the basement, they are beautiful but very steep and a few of them are quite short (see other reviews) Also, be aware that you will have to deal with your own trash as there is not a place outside to put it since it attracts the wild life. Overall a wonderful vacation for our big group!!! I definitely recommend this house!
The cabin is in a great location. Nice wooded and remote feeling lot with good parking. It's easily accessible and quick to reach from the interstate. Getting the key wasn't too bad but once inside it was disappointing to have a cabin of this size not cooled. It took most of the evening for the AC to get the temperature of the cabin to something mid 70s. The hot tub was took until nighttime to get hot enough and had a heavy chlorine smell. These aren't huge issues but don't align with 'Luxury'.
The cabin inside was very spacious. The living room was small/limited seating but the dining table was a nice plus, being oversized with lots of seating. The decor was nice. I appreciated the lack of usual cabin rental kitsch/clutter. This one had room for groceries, bags, phones, etc. The bedding was also nice and everyone appreciated having a proper bed to sleep in (no sleeper sofas)! The stairs are slices of trees with the 'bark' end of the tree. It makes for them to look nice but going down is a risk (We had a few falls, slides, & scraped heels). Descending the stairs sideways proved to be the best option but should be reviewed if your party has elderly or young guests. The cabin also had plenty of lights but the kitchen/dining lights put out a LOT of heat (which didn't help an already hot cabin). Even after the cabin was cooled the pot lights heated things up uncomfortably so we stuck mainly to lamps. Unfortunately, many of them had either burnt out bulbs, or broken/missing knobs to turn them on (again, not luxury).
The cabin tech was sub-par. Wi-Fi was weak/spotty (we had IT/techy folks in our group). We saw no outdoor speakers as advertised. Both surround systems were poor. Neither had Bluetooth connectivity or connections for newer than an iPhone 4. With the weak wi-fi they there fairly useless. Additional speakers in the cabin were all for older phone models. We resorted to portable speakers we brought. The kitchen equipment was well stocked but many items were in rough shape (ALL of the knives were as dull as spoons, drip-stop coffee maker didn't, etc). The pool table was nice but the sticks were all in pretty bad shape so we didn't play much for fear of damaging the felt. The game room TV was big (living room one was OLD) but without the surround working properly it was useless.
Overall, we had fun but things could have been better given the price. It's nice but not luxury. The owner said she is addressing things so maybe we'll try again!
We had a wonderful time at the cabin for our family reunion. There was room for everyone to sleep comfortably. The beds were dream worthy. We all loved the gorgeous decor. I spent some time on the upper deck reading, catching a few moments alone during a busy weekend - loved that there was space for people to do that. I also loved the large dining table that was long enough and deep enough to have the family meal. The kitchen was well stocked for meal making. The drive up the hill was a bit intimidating/thrilling the first time, but the view is totally worth it and none of us had any trouble with it, even in the rain. I'm already trying to figure out when we can go back! Thanks for sharing your lovely cabin with us Kelly!
