My wife and I both grew up in Michigan and for the last 32 years we have lived in Traverse City. We have 3 sons and daughter in laws. All of our family have been very active in sports and outdoor activities. While growing up my fondest memories were at my grandfather's cabin, and fly fishing with him and my father and brothers. Since fly fishing has been a passion of my wife and I, we decided to purchase our beautiful log home on one of the finest trout, steelhead and salmon rivers in the Midwest. With steelhead fishing open year round on our stretch on the river we didn't need to be strapped by the regular trout season requirements. We also love the comforts of luxurious living so we have equipped our cabin with nothing but the finest furnishing with a flare towards northern rustic decore. This is truly a one of a kind vacation get away that I hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
Kevin Kelly purchased this cabin in 2010
Wanting that 'up north' feeling of privacy but yet be close enough to drive easily within a couple of hours of numerous larger cities we decided to look at fabulous fly fishing areas in mid Michigan. We found the perfect spot. With river frontage owned on both sides of the river, 1800 ft. of private frontage and 80 acres to hike, explore or watch the numerous types of wildlife on the property it is truly what we were looking for. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming and river floating are just a few of the many activities that abound. Don't have kayaks? No problem we have some that can be arranged to be used all week at our cabin.
Want a day trip? Just 20 minutes away is one of the most spectacular free city beaches in the Midwest. Ludington city beach has free parking right at the beach and you can walk the pier and view the lighthouse museum. Watch the boats come in and out of the Pere Marquette harbor, or charter one for yourself. Visit the numerous quaint shops in downtown or eat at one of the great restaurants. Head south about 20 more minutes and visit the dunes at Silver Lake. Rent a dune buggy or try it on your own. These dunes on Lake Michigan and Silver Lake are truly worth the drive.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us! We came up for a girls weekend. Everything was as described and we really enjoyed ourselves! There was plenty of space for our group of 8. We kayaked the Pere Marquette with Baldwin Canoe Rental and also spent some time in Ludington. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the maize and blue can by the fireplace. Go green! ;)
Overall, a wonderful place to stay! We are already thinking about a family trip there in the future. Thank you again!
Our third stay at this beautiful cabin was as outstanding as our previous stays.
It is just so nice to arrive after a long drive and find everything so clean and comfortable! We always appreciate the wide-open interior space of the living room and kitchen areas with lots of comfortable furniture. And we always enjoy sitting on the back porch and watching the river.
If you venture down to the river, you will find some new benches where you can sit and watch all kinds of outdoor activity... and it's a nice place to rest after you cast a few lines.
I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway...and also to those who love outdoor activities. This can't be beat!
I just completed my 2nd stay in the Log Home on the P.M. River, and everything was great!
The property was very clean, the furniture was comfortable, and the views outstanding. As usual, there was plenty of room for my group, and the kitchen had everything we needed to do our meals after a day of fishing...the comfort level was very high.
We also enjoyed sharing stories around the camp fire, and many walks around the forest property. It's also great to sit out back and watch the river. We also appreciated the close proximity to our main fishing areas.
This is truly an outstanding property for those seeking outdoors adventure. You are surrounded by nature, yet have uncompromising comfort...a great combination! I can't wait to get back.
This stunning lodge cabin is surrounded by the natural forest and overlooks the Pierre Marquette South Branch. And this is only the beginning. Once you get inside, you will find a clean, well designed interior that reflects the surrounding outdoor environment.
The outdoor theme decor is fabulous and the space is never-ending. The high ceiling living room area is the place to kick back and relax. From here, you can go out to the back porch and sit...and watch and listen to the river and the forest. You will be hard pressed to find anything else like this.
At night, build a fire...and if you are lucky, watch the moon come up over the river.
I would recommend this cabin to anyone, especially those who want to experience the true Michigan outdoors with unparalleled comfort. But please don't take all of the openings next September!
Everything was perfect! The property was quiet and secluded. We didn't see another person the entire time! The cabin has everything you could possibly need. Our two teenagers had the greatest time on the river, and the fires at night were great family time! Thank you so much for sharing your piece of heaven!!!!
We stayed in this large, attractive, very clean, peaceful cabin July 7-14, 2013. What a wonderful week! The pictures do not do the cabin justice. So beautiful inside and out. We loved spending afternoons and evenings on the spacious covered back deck for reading, relaxing, watching nature, cooking out, enjoying a glass of wine, etc. Also enjoyed the fire pit and stargazing. The home is in the woods, on a hillside overlooking the river, with direct access, and feels very private. There are neighbors down the road/river, but you can't see them. Lots of acreage for exploring. It's rustic (the property, not the home), so be prepared with long pants, long sleeve shirts, bug spray, first aid kit, etc. You can also hike many nearby trails in the Manistee National Forest. We particularly loved the Bowman Lake trail...well maintained, isolated, beautiful...we only saw two other people there on a weekday hike. We spent a day in nearby Ludington enjoying the very clean Lake Michigan beach, cute town with many shops, and lighthouses. Also spent a fabulous afternoon canoeing down the Pere Marquette River via Baldwin Canoe Rental. The cabin has kayaks available for your enjoyment, but you will need to have transport to put in and take out along the river. We did paddle upstream in the kayaks, but had to turn back shortly when we hit some rapids that were too difficult for us to manage going against the current. But it was fun. We mostly just enjoyed hanging out in the comfort of the cabin in the woods, watching deer and other critters, being unplugged. We loved all the beautiful natural pine woodwork inside, as well as the fantastic kitchen, spacious master bath with jetted tub and rain/side spray showers, and three spacious living levels. One really nice feature is the picture window in the master bath looking out over the trees and river (home has large windows all over to help bring the outdoors in). The home feels new and is very well kept. We loved it and highly recommend for folks who like the woods and want the isolation. There is a small general store within a few miles of the cabin that's well-stocked (Ruby Creek) and large grocery/dept stores closer to Ludington (we liked Meijer for one-stop shopping). Take your cell phone (no land line in cabin). We hung cell phone out over second floor landing to get a weak to nonexistent AT&T signal. All part of the fun and experience! Owner very friendly, helpful and easy to work with. Wonderful week!
