Bring the kids and swim and tube on our river, hike our trails and bike our railroad grade roads alongside the New River. The cabin is striking with vaulted pine LOG WALLS and exposed-beam CATHEDRAL CEILINGS. Comfy seating and gorgeous mountain views through the huge windows and doors. Bird-watching is a favorite activity from the decks. All 4 bedrooms are charming and spacious.

Very private community, but close to all activities.

River Community: Bearfoot Hideaway is in a private FAMILY oriented river community with river access, and maintained river walks. We are NOT in Zionville, there is another cabin very UNLIKE ours in Zionville. Please do not get us confused.

Nature at its best: Relax and enjoy the gorgeous views or watch the birds and woodland animals from one of our huge wrap around decks, or while soaking in our sunken hot tub. Then dry off and warm yourself by our outdoor firepit, or our stone fireplace.

if you are so inclined, please feed the birds and hummingbirds with the food we have in the cabin.

Underground Power lines: Bearfoot Hideaway is located in a community with underground power lines! The benefit if which is that the cabin does not have power outages when the weather is inclement, as other homes in the area experience frequently. During the blizzard of '09 when 88% of Watauga county was powerless, (some for more than 4 days), Bearfoot Hideaway did not experience even one split second of power loss.

We also provide free long distance calling and trash pickup which is something you will NOT find in most cabins in the mountains.

About Trish

As 2 business professionals, we never had time to destress, until we purchased our cabin 'Bear Foot Hideaway'. I am an avid gardener and birdwatcher, and my husband loves to hike. The crisp clean mountain air and nature sounds from the woods around our cabin make us feel as if we escaped the world. The starlit sky at night is only overshadowed by the June fireflies or the roaring fire we build in our outdoor firepit. Bear Foot Hideaway is our piece of heaven in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Trish purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Trish chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We fell in love with our log cabin the moment we walked onto the deck. The mountain views and authentic log construction was exactly what we were looking for.

What makes this cabin unique

We love mountain biking and hiking along the Blue Ridge. Summer is a great time for tubing on our very own New River. Living far away, it is not so easy staying on top of it, but I take TLC of my garden whenever we get a chance to be there, and the flowers are absolutely GORGEOUS! The Autumn is also a favorite time of year to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The changing leaves of Fall, along with the cooler temperatures makes for a heavenly getaway. From the time the first snowflake falls, until late March skiing, Boone is a winter wonderland. There are Arts & Crafts Festivals all year long.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks again for sharing your beautiful cabin with our family. The cabin was extremely clean and well-stocked. The location was also great. It was somewhat secluded while still being close enough to shopping/activities. There was so little traffic by the house that our children were able to sled in the roadway by the house.

We would definitely rent this house again!

Wonderful location for a weekend with family!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Bearfoot Hideaway for my nephew's graduation weekend from Appalachian State. The cabin gave each family a separate living area and there was plenty of room for our family game nights! The cabin is very close to Boone and the university. We loved our experience!

Paradise on Earth!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was clean, charming, and comfy. The owner was communicative and responsive. My husband and I enjoyed hiking trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, picking strawberries, trout fishing, going to the Watauga Farmer's Market, eating at Hob Knob Farm, and playing trivia at Appalachian Mountain Brewery. I would highly recommend Boone and this cabin! We'll be back!

Perfect Getaway for the Family to bond

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my parents' 40th wedding anniversary at this majestic property in the woods! My mom and dad, older sister with husband and 2 very rambunctious 8 and 10 year old boys, other sister with husband, and myself had plenty of space to sleep and spread out. We came from Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and DC, all magically having a 6.5 hour trip! While the property has fantastic cell service, wifi, and multiple tvs, we never even turned the tv on as there was so much to do outside!

The boys LOVED walking down to the creek (.6 mile walk) and just playing, skipping rocks, looking at plants and wildlife, and cooling off in the water. We also went gem stone mining at Foggy Bottom Gem Stone. Digging through the dirt for treasure is just about as great as it gets for 2 boys! We had a family portrait taken by a photographer on a trail at Grandfather Mountain that turned out gorgeous! The house also has an air hockey table, darts, ping pong, and pool table that kept us all entertained.

We stayed 4 nights, and went on only 1 grocery shopping trip and made all our meals at the house. With the large table and stools at the bar there was room for everyone to eat all our meals together. We loved making smores around the fire pit!

The real crown jewel of this property is the deck. This is where the whole family spent most of our time! We sat outside and played card games, watched all the wildlife come to the bird feeders, shucked corn, told stories, watched the sunset, enjoyed a few beers (adults only of course), and enjoyed each other's company.

The property was extremely clean, and well kept. Only minor things we found needing some looking after was the pool table had holes in the pockets making playing a little difficult, and there was no tiki torch fuel to keep the mosquitos away (we drove to the hardware store and bought some more). We were happy that linens were provided, so we didn't need to schlep that. One word of warning while this property owner is extremely sweet and an absolute pleasure to work with, the neighbors across the street have apparently taken it upon themselves to be the self-appointed police of the road. The parking at the property can fit 4 cars. If you park on the grass, they'll get mad. If you turn in their driveway, they'll get mad.

We'd highly recommend this property for anyone looking for some place to get away from it all and enjoy all that nature has to offer without roughing it!

Cute tucked away cabin.

  • 3 of 5

A group of 8 adults went up to go skiing in Boone and rented this property for the weekend. This cabin is pretty far from Boone and kind of hard to find since you can't see it from the road. The driveway isn't a driveway it's more of a shoulder from the main road so don't bring more than three cars. The neighbors across the street forbid you from using their spot as a turnaround and will call the owners in a heartbeat if you do so! The property itself is a nice cabin vibe with plenty of space! There was some water damage on one of the walls in the basement and the grills were not clean when we got there. The owner contacted us ahead of time saying they needed a credit card for a safety deposit on the rental. I'm not sure if that is normal but I have never had to that when renting on this website so I don't think it is. There are also a lot of rules for the house that are kind of crazy regarding dishes and trash. It comes stocked with just enough stuff to stay one or two nights max. We had to clean and empty the house before we left and there wasn't enough trash bags or paper towels as they only give you one roll. There was also a set number of towels for the amount of people you have going which isn't enough so we brought more of our own. We were supposed to meet the cleaner as we checked out but she called in sick so we never saw the cleaner and didn't know if I would get my deposit back. Overall the place is cute but I did not like all of the rules and limitations placed on the house.

Owner's Response: Austin, I appreciate your feedback. I explain in my listing and all documentation that I do not take a cash security deposit like most other cabins do. I only place an authorization on your credit card like a hotel would do. A traveler can purchase damage insurance from Homeaway if the authorization is intolerable. I felt I was actually doing something nicer than holding $300 of the guests' money from the time they book the property. As far as signs, we are in the woods and have had issues with guests leaving bags of garbage on the deck and road, as well as dumping wet, loose trash into the trash can. I would not wish to be the guest that arrived after a mess like that, so I request trash be bagged and placed inside the receptacle. I apologize if you found that uncomfortable. My detailed check-in instructions, which are sent to all guests and listed on this site as well, explain 'what to bring'. We leave many bags and paper goods, but if you use up our supply, we request you bring some of your own. I can always make arrangements to have extra supplies left in the house if that request is made in advance. Thanks again.

Inaccurate Description

  • 1 of 5

When our family searched for a mountain home we were specifically looking for a property and location where we would have river access.

We assumed that we would be able to fish, walk and play in the river since the owner advertised the property with direct river access and river trails to walk. The property is not on the river. There are other homes in the neighborhood that are on the river, however, there is not any common area in the neighborhood where someone who is renting this home can safely walk down to the river. We met several neighbors who were very nice and gave us directions to other locations where we could drive to fish and go tubing. While they were quite helpful, we did not want to drive to other locations to enjoy the river.

We were very disappointed. In addition, there was dog hair on the floor and dishes in the cabinets that were dirty. I would not recommend this property.

Owner's Response: I'm not surprised by this false review. I had to contact this guest for missing items and exploding fireworks inside our home. I had to charge her for damages. Our description does not claim direct river access. There is a short walk to the river. I explained to this guests mother a few times that the river access is aside the bridge. I was very clear. I would never have this guest or family in my property again.
