Had a really enjoyable stay in Lee Street. Excellent area, within 10-12 minutes walk of the nearest T-stop [I'm sure it took longer to walk each time we went there!]. A very quiet neighbourhood with some decent bars within easy walking distance.
The property was in excellent condition and as advertised - the photos actually make it look lighter than it actually was but that isn't really a criticism!
I always like to leave comments about improvements that would make the stay better...
The air-con units are only in the two bedrooms so the main rooms were often warm - but the temperatures were excessive for the time of year.
The lighting in the kitchen was a little dark - not a huge problem but sometimes when cooking breakfast it seemed a little dim as the stove had no light above it.
The Wi-Fi seemed a little temperamental at times.
The "Welcome Information" needs updating a little - as Olive and Family no longer live on the top floor - so ringing the bell didn't allow us to speak to Olive to say Hi!
We loved our stay at Lee Street. The property has retained beautiful original features and the owners have chosen unique items of furniture.
I loved sitting outside every morning and evening and felt a million miles from the city despite being so close.
Perfectly positioned for our stay for visits to Downtown Boston and Cambridge by 'T' and Nantasket and Cape Cod by car. We walked to local shops, restaurants and the beautiful Jamaica Pond.
I have never met such friendly and helpful people as those I met in Boston, and particularly in Jamaica Plain.
My son is there for 4 years - I can't wait to come back :)
The property was quite difficult to find through the Jamaica Plain one way system at dusk on the evening we arrived.
No nasty suprises internally on arrival, looked just as the pictures on the site, the outside is not quite as bright as the picture on the site. A ten minute walk to the T at Green Street then 20 minutes into central Boston. Property clean and well maintained, whenever I contacted Olive through the Home & Away site with a question she responded in a timely manner, resolving the situation, enjoyed sitting out at the back of the house during the evening, walking distance to Doyles bar.
No hesitation recommending this property.
My husband and I spent 5 days here in June with our daughter and her two children, ages 12 & almost 15. We were quite comfortable in general, and the mattresses were particularly nice. There was plenty of room for us to relax and enjoy this lovely old home (apt.), and everything was spic and span. It is within easy walking distance to Doyle's, where we enjoyed a wonderful Irish-fare breakfast one morning; and the "T" is likewise just a few blocks away. I would like to add to a previous reviewer's comments on the door lock--although there was a deadbolt on the rental unit, it required the key to lock it from the inside, which would need to be left in the lock for fire safety reasons, We chose not use it and instead used the sliding lock and were not at all worried about security. Besides this being a quiet neighborhood, the door to the unit is inside behind another dead-bolted door to the front porch. My only suggestion would be to perhaps put a mirror someplace in the apt. near an electrical outlet since there are none in the bathroom, thereby allowing a person to do some grooming outside the bathroom while another person is showering. Overall, though, we had a very comfortable stay and would recommend this to anyone visiting the Boston area for a few days.
We stayed in this apartment for 4 nights at the beginning of March. My husband and I were traveling with our two children (ages 3 and 1) and our 18 year old nephew. There was more than enough space for all of us in this apartment. While we were there both of our children fell ill. A lot of our plans were canceled due to high fevers. There was enough room for us to spend most of our time without feeling like we were on top of each other. The back yard certainly helped for the kids as well.
The unit was very clean and well maintained. My only concern was that you could not properly lock the main apartment door once you were inside. While the owners assured us it was a safe neighbourhood, I still did not feel comfortable with only a sliding lock keeping the door locked at night.
Perhaps my favourite part about this unit was that out front there is a sign indicating there is a deaf child on the street. Both of our children are deaf, and although we didn't know about this sign before we arrived, we did recommend this apartment to families in several parent groups we belong to.
Olive and her husband were so wonderful to us, we felt like extended family. They were so great to helped us in every way they could and make us feel like we were at home! The place was lovely..I just LOVED the bathroom. I want that shower set-up, it was gorgeous! I was traveling with my 15-year-old niece and dad so the 2 bedroom was perfect. One room for my dad with an AMAZINGLY comfortable bed. The second bedroom had a wonderful queen and twin, so me and my niece could share a room, but have separate beds! We loved it!
We were in town celebrating my other niece's 1st birthday. One of the first nights we were there the door lock got jammed for the front door, we called Olive and she sent over her husband right away to help us. After figuring out there was no way to "shake open" the lock he went around back to the back door. We heard some banging and clanging and he was back there for a while, when he finally came to open the front door, we find out that he had almost completely destroy the back door by removing the lock. He was AMAZING!!! He wasn't upset with us, said it happens in old locks...we felt horrible! But he said they would fix the door and it would all be ok!
Then a few days later was the back-to-back Monday blizzards that Boston received this winter. Olive called and said that they would come over and get out some extra blankets and some camping lanterns, in case the power went out for a bit. We were gone for a few hours that day and when we got home they were set out on the dining table, thank goodness we didn't need to use them.
We'll be going out to Boston next year for Christmas and New Years and I KNOW we'll be staying here again! Thank you for EVERYTHING you did for us, can't wait to stay with you again!! :)
