Proprietors John Webb and Sarah Anderson offer you the finest accommodations for a short-term, furnished rental. We invite you to enjoy the hospitality and convenience of your studio apartment. The Highlands Hideaway is a lovely century old Victorian located in the Original Highlands, one of Louisville's oldest neighborhoods. Why the Owner Chose Louisville We bought our house so we could be located in one of Louisville's finest and most vibrant neighborhoods. We are professional adults who enjoy urban living. We decided to open our lovely home to others to be able to experience and share in the 'local flavor' of Louisville's most independent, locally owned business and restaurant corridors in the state of Kentucky. The Unique Benefits of this Apartment You will be within walking distance to some of the finest restaurants and shops in the Louisville. We are conveniently located 3 miles from downtown Louisville and the world's most famous horse racing track Churchill Downs. We are also centrally located to the University of Louisville and medical facilities downtown.
The Highland Hideaway is a really nice property! My husband and I felt very comfortable at the house and it truly is within walking distance to quite a lot. We didn't use the kitchen much at all due to our short stay and close proximity to restaurants. If you love coffee, I highly recommend walking to Quill's on Baxter! You will not regret spending $5 on the Bourbon Vanilla Latte....promise! Cave Hill Cemetery is within walking distance as well, but if you really want to explore the entire cemetery (over 300 acres)....I would recommend driving. We were fortunate enough to get a personal tour from the cemetery manager on our last day in town. We took a short 5 minute drive across Payne Street to Frankfort Ave and rode the trolley for free (until 10pm) during FAT Friday (last Friday of each month). Lots to do and see in/near The Highlands...
One caution: If you are 6' or taller, be careful of the low doorway going into the bathroom. My husband is 6' 4" and hit his head quite a few times on the door frame. It was comical for me since I'm 5' 6" and cleared it with no issues at all! Oh! Another caution.....once inside the house, do not walk out/shut the front door without the key. The door will lock once shut so you MUST have the key to regain entry. We didn't get locked out, but I can easily see someone shutting the door to unload their car, just to turn around and find yourself locked out of the house.
Sarah was really easy to work with and very responsive/timely in her messages back about the house location and access code, etc. I did not need to contact her while at the house since everything was pretty self explanatory once we got there.
Located a block from Baxter Avenue, you could not ask for a better location. Apartment is very clean, and well kept. If you are visiting the Highland, I would highly recommend this Apartment.
I had to be in Louisville for a two-month work commitment. The studio was very nice and Sarah was so kind. I have a senior rescue dog, and given I was going to be away so long, I was very happy that I was allowed to bring him along. The community is very dog friendly and most neighbors seem to have at least two. The community was very safe. Being a single woman, I still had no concerns when I had to walk my dog at night. The studio is conveniently located in the Highlands near Baxter and Bardstown Rd. Unique shops, restaurants, lots to explore and lively atmosphere. Yet, when you get back to your place you would never suspect you are so close to so much nite life. You are near absolutely EVERYTHING including the necessities: drugstore, grocer, cleaners, FedX, etc.! There is on-street parking but amazingly there was always a spot right in front of my door everyday. It was very comfortable with TV, Wifi and everything I needed. When I'm back in Louisville, I would enjoy staying there again. Thank you Sarah!
Comfortable, clean, and convenient pretty much sums it up. We slept well during our week-plus stay, and enjoyed walking up to both Baxter Ave. and Bardstown Road to grab coffee or a meal. We could have used the kitchen to cook more if we'd wanted. No problems with the coffee maker or stove. Really nice old Louisville neighborhood--we felt very safe and loved the general ambiance. Sarah went the extra mile to come over and tutor us on the unfamiliar TV remote. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the building itself is a bit rough around the edges and needs some outside work. Would definitely stay again!
This was a good rental. The apartment is in an old house that could use a little updating but its fine for a couple of nights. The bed was comfortable. I would recommend staying here especially due to it's close proximity to the restaurants in the Highlands.
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in Sarah's charming Highland's studio for 6 days over the Christmas holidays. We have rented VRBO listings throughout the US and Europe because we love to be in actual neighborhoods and experience the local culture. This cozy apartment satisfied on all accounts. We were able to walk absolutely everywhere and especially enjoyed sitting on the front stoop and chatting with neighbors. We felt completely safe at all times and loved that we were close to Bardstown's exciting nightlife and yet had such a quiet home to which to return. I don't normally do this but I feel the need to address some comments made by previous reviewers. The bed and couch were both extremely comfortable. There is a lovely coffee table. The coffeepot is plugged conveniently in on the counter in the kitchen and not on the floor! No, there is not an outlet in the bathroom (I think the building was built in the 1910's!) but there is a huge mirror with a convenient table, mantle and electric outlet in the living room. To find a hotel room near the Highlands with all of the amenities that this apartment provided would cost over twice what Sarah charges! It is clean, comfortable, very quiet and Sarah was extremely receptive to all of my questions both before and during our stay. Yes, it's quirky but that's what it's like to live in the Highlands. We will be back!
