We have just returned from our recent restock and maintenance trip to the Baja. The Baja is definitely back in a big way as development and construction in the Los Cabos region is full speed ahead now. The weather was amazing and hot!
We ate at some of our favourite restaurants and again discovered some terrific new locations in San José del Cabo, after the day's work. Everything is ready for future guests to Sampaguita Villa 6 in the land of never-ending sun and margaritas! We want to thank our many repeat and new friends/visitors for sharing Villa 6 and treating it as their home on the Baja.
This year the Sampaguita property will undertake updates to the tennis court including the addition of Pickle Ball. As well, lights will be added to the front Beach Wall. Ongoing improvements to Villa 6 including the new A/C control system enhancements are complete. We previously added to the ambiance of the villa with some traditional, updated and new wall pieces including an original oil painting 'Four' by local artist Ivan Guaderrama in the living room (check out his gallery in San José del Cabo ). Telmex updated the Sampaguita property to a fibre optic network, and I added a state of the art extender to boost signal strength upstairs (and inadvertently all the way to the pool). There is NO charge for the Wi-Fi and calls made on the Villa telephone to the USA and Canada are now free from Mexico. We also added an HD PVR in the upstairs master bedroom. We truly hope everyone enjoys the ongoing improvements.
More new stores and restaurants continue to be constructed along the hotel boulevard. For a truly once in a lifetime experience, the newest Cabo Dolphins eco-dolphin aquatic centre is only 2 blocks away. Our favourite gym, Cabo Fitness, has moved just down the road in the Zona Hotelera (maybe a 10 minute walk now) in Plaza Pescador and is still making improvements. The view from the third level and open air work out environment is great!
Our two storey 3-bedroom/2-bathroom Mexican Villa is centrally air-conditioned and offers over 1,719 sq. ft., including a private patio living space that is only 75 steps to the beach. Sampaguita is a quiet, exclusive security gated community of 14 beachfront homes. Amenities also include a walk in open shower in the spacious upper floor master bathroom, and a private 2nd floor terrace with authentic Mexican leather equipale chairs and an ocean/beach view. The main floor offers ceiling fans in a large open concept living and dining area, Canadian satellite HDTV (includes a full compliment of US channels) with an HD PVR (so you don't miss any sun and sand time) and telephone/NO charge WiFi internet, all for relaxing after a day on the beach.
The fully stocked kitchen includes all appliances; a new stainless steel fridge c/w 3 step water filtration system, stove/oven and microwave combination, new dishwasher, small appliances, utensils and most importantly a blender for those cool afternoon cocktails. The villa has large dining areas comfortable for 6, both inside and on the private ocean view terraza with a new Weber gas BBQ.
We have convenient back door/main entrance parking and/or guest parking close by. The two bedrooms on the main floor share a bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The 3-bedroom home includes 1 king, 1 queen and 1 queen and 1 twin sofa bed in a roomy converted Mexican decor garage bedroom. All bedrooms have floor and/or ceiling fans for your added comfort. The main floor also has an apartment sized washer and dryer.
The Lifestyle (Quiet Groups Only)
Well manicured grounds, that were completely re landscaped in 2013-15 into a mixed eco-friendly desert scape, offer beautiful tropical palms and include; 2 heated swimming pools, jacuzzi, tennis courts, a fire pit at the beach’s edge for the moonlit evenings, access to miles of white sand unspoiled beaches (Playa Hotelera), beautiful sunrises and spectacular views of the Sea of Cortez. It is not uncommon to watch manta rays skimming the waves, schools of dolphins and porpoises playing out front or whales passing by.
A full service shopping centre with food stores and one of the Baja's newest Starbucks, many restaurants and the Cabo Fitness Centre are within walking distance (5 to 15 minutes maximum). Costco, Walmart and other big box stores are only a short drive on the route to Cabo San Lucas (25-30 minutes).
The mission San José del Cabo was founded in 1730, and the quaint town of San José del Cabo offers varied and exquisite local cuisine, a vibrant and engaging art community and a peaceful and relaxing historic village atmosphere. The centre of San José del Cabo is a 30+ minute walk or US$7 (70 MXN Pesos) cab ride from Sampaguita. In other words, our villa is centrally located in the main hotel area and on the Playa Hotelera (Hotel Beach) like all the major hotels.
In contrast, Cabo San Lucas offers well-known names and tourist attractions such as, the famous Land’s End Arch, crafts shopping on the Marina stroll or at the upscale Puerto Paraiso mall (which includes a luxury shopping wing extraordinaire), sea doo’s, deep sea fishing, punta and water taxi boat tours to Playa del Amor (Lover's Beach), tequila and all the Medano Beach Mexican parties and entertainment you could want. Between Cabo and San Jose, known as Los Cabos or the tourist Corridor, are secluded beaches and snorkeling spots, several world class golf courses and adventure activities such as zip lines and dune buggies in the desert foothills.

My wife and I grew up between the North Shore mountains of beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and the Pacific Ocean's Howe Sound. Our young family was fortunate enough to enjoy many years and happy memories on the beaches of Maui. In 1996, my father and his wife began our Mexican Baja adventure by staying in the quaint town of San José del Cabo. A walk on the long Playa Hotelera on the Sea of Cortez led to a new Mexican Villa. Ever since our family has enjoyed what I refer to as the Kaanapali of Mexico - Los Cabos - stretching from the bustling centre of Cabo San Lucas along the lush tourist corridor to quiet San José del Cabo. We hope you'll choose to enjoy all that the Baja has to offer, as we have. Garfield and Judith, Deep Cove, British Columbia, B.C. Canada
Garfield C. Johnson purchased this villa in 1996
Sampaguita Villas is a quiet complex on miles of unspoiled beaches and with clear blue ocean, friendly hospitable Mexican people, never ending hours of sun, the tranquillity of San José del Cabo with its amazing restaurants and art scene, and the constant energy and fun of Cabo San Lucas a short distance away.
Quiet, private, boutique lifestyle on the beach in a 14 villa gated community.
We had a wonderful time there, the villa is so beautiful and comfortable.
We loved every single place we visited around Los Cabos.
We loved staying at Sampanguita villas just as much as we loved the beach there. It's like being in paradise!
We really hope we could go again any time soon
If you're looking for a quiet relaxing place to spend with friends on the beach, this is it. We had a great time and the property lived up to all of our expectations.
This was our 2nd visit to Sampaguita and our first stay in Villa # 9. We vacationed here in November 2016 (my wife & myself), our adult son and his family (total of 4 adults+3 small kids). Sampaguita is a very nice, very quiet, gated community of 14 privately owned villas. If you enjoy peace & quiet, away from the 'madding crowd', this is for you. The grounds are pretty and nicely landscaped. The location, right on the beach and also close to good shopping, is excellent. There is a nice heated pool complex including a kiddy pool, and there is a gas fired fire-pit. Children under 5 are not permitted in the Hot Tub. The weather in this area of Mexico is virtually guaranteed to be sunny and warm most of the year - very little rainfall, as evidenced by the regional arid desert areas. San Jose (location of the modern airport for the Cabo region) is a nice, 'gringo-friendly' city and prices for food (especially fruit, vegetables and seafood) were very reasonable. There are many restaurants in the area. We find the more authentic restaurants patronized by Mexicans to provide better value. Try the small food court at the San Jose city market. Amazing service and fantastic food at a bargain price. There is a Costco about 30 kms down the coast in Cabo San Lucas and a Walmart in San Jose. The nearby La Conner supermarket is very good, and the Soriana supermarket up town is also worth a visit (better prices). There is a frequent city bus service, but we always rent a car at the Airport. We recommend using local currency which can be obtained in bank machines at the La Conner Supermarket. Villa # 9 lived up to the VRBO description - comfortable, clean, well equipped and well appointed. The Canadian owners were most accommodating and the on-site property managers (Mark & his wife) were very responsive and helpful. This villa includes a good selection of beach equipment, including boogie boards. The adjacent sandy beach was virtually deserted and the ocean was very warm in November (about 84 F). Although the fairly heavy surf and undertow may be an issue for some, our grandkids (in life jackets) had a real blast riding boogie boards or splashing in the crashing surf. There are several accessible more sheltered beach areas (with reefs) toward Cabo where snorkeling is quite good. In summary, great facilities, great location and sun, sun, sun! We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and relatives.
My family of 5 stayed in Samapnquita Villa 6 for a week in June 2016. We were excited based on the pictures in the listing, but the real thing was even better than we imagined.
The villa was spacious, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The furnishings were all in good condition and the villa was wonderfully clean. The kitchen was well appointed. That along with the full-size Weber grill made preparing meals a snap.
There were plenty of bath towels and beach towels available for our use, and some great beach toys as well. We got a lot of use from the boogie boards.
I cannot explain to you how lovely the outdoor area is. The landscaping is gorgeous and gardeners maintained it daily. The pool is gorgeous and a great refresher after the beach. The views from the villa are simply gorgeous with the beautiful pool and tropical gardens in the foreground, the sea in the background.
The beach is very clean and uncrowded. The surf is quite rough with a strong undertow, so don't plan on swimming. But it's lots of fun to stand in the shallows and play in the waves. There are many lovely coves within a short driving distance for swimming.
There is a larger grocery store with everything you might need about a three minute walk away. In addition, a big community park is right across the road from the villas with a playground, basketball and futsal. My 17 year old son went over every evening and found a pick up soccer game to join.
It was helpful having a rental car, and we will rent one next time. We rented from Alamo at the airport and it was convenient.
Frank, the property manager, met us when we arrived at the villa. He made sure everything was just right for us, and offered great suggestions for restaurants and activities - all winners, particularly El Toro Guero and The Tropicana. He checked in with us a couple of times during the week to make sure all was well. We had prebooked a snorkeling excursion that took us near the arch in Cabo San Lucas. I think we would have been better off visiting one of Frank's recs with our own snorkel gear - just something to keep in mind if you want to snorkel.
We booked the villa with pretty short notice, and Garfield, the owner made sure everything was in order for us in a timely manner. His communication was great and the info provided was thorough and helpful.
In short, we loved staying in Villa 6 and will definitely be making a return trip , and we highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Los Cabos.
We had a wonderful vacation at Sampaguita Villa and will definitely be back! From the very first communications I had with Garfield regarding Sampaguita Villa, I was very impressed! From start to finish, he was very informative about the villa and surrounding area. The villa was perfect, the grounds and view of the ocean from the patio are BEAUTIFUL! The complex was very quiet and relaxing, which is just what we were looking for! Most days, we had the entire pool area to ourselves. The beach is very clean and beautiful. There is a large grocery store (Mega - similar to a Walmart or Fred Meyer which has everything....fresh seafood, alcohol, clothing), Starbucks and other restaurants within walking distance. We walked to Mega several times to get the freshly made ceviche! The villa is gated, has a washer and dryer, AC and all the comforts of home. Frank, the local property manager, met us at the villa to show us around. He was very friendly and met us with a big smile, cold beer and water! We could not have asked for a better vacation and can not wait to return! I highly recommend Sampaguita Villa 6!
We had a lovely stay at this villa during our escape from the cold New York December weather!
We have been traveling the world for over 12 years, in over 20 countries and rent apartments during most of our travels - this apartment was one of the best!
The villa was perfectly located on the best part of the beach in San Jose del Cabo ( the much nicer of the two Cabos). The beach was long, clean and beautiful. The neighboring condos and hotels were clean and quiet, but had all the amenities that we needed. There was a lovely outdoor shopping center with the best grocery store I have ever seen (Mega mart: which had everything from milk, to wines and alcohol, to fresh fish, to clothing and electronics!)
The apartment was large (very comfortable for our party of three adults, and still would certainly hold more people very comfortably) and beautifully decorated. The grounds were lovely, quiet, and right on the beach. The pool was warm and very refreshing.
The owner Garfield was very helpful from start to depart. He gave many great recommendations on booking cars and travel ideas, and had a great binder of information in the apartment to help our day-to-day planning while there. In addition the local manager, Frank, was very timely and kind and helped us settle in perfectly. He was always nearby in case we had a question, but never intruded on our vacation escape.
I would certainly recommend this property and would come back in the future.
Local soccer pitch/arena/playground close by. Mega grocery store and mall with Starbucks a two block walk. Many great restaurants (Mexican, Organic, American and Italian) within a 15 minute walk in the Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone). The Cabo Dolphins Eco Park is now open about a block away. For a truly once in a lifetime experience swim with the dolphins!
