About the property

Studio, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

RiverSpace is a large, bright private room at one end of a country house. Surrounded by 16 acres of forest and meadow on a quiet country road, this is an ideal location for anyone who wants distraction-free time to write, study, meditate or just get away from it all. Although the ocean is only ten miles away, this is a different climate zone--often sunny and warm when the beach isn't! RiverSpace can be a quiet retreat or home-base for exploring the gorgeous scenery of the Oregon coast. It can be a sanctuary or the starting point for great mountain biking on miles of forest roads. You can sink deep into the natural world, where the only sound is the murmur of the river, the only lights come from the stars overhead, and the air is full of the rejuvenating scent of fir and cedar. However you choose to spend your day, your warm cozy room awaits you--and oh yes, there's a hot tub from which to gaze at the moon! It's quiet and private, a perfect getaway for a few days or more. Well-behaved dogs are welcome--it's a super place for a dog vacation too!

About Andrea

I'm a writer working on a nonfiction local history book. I've lived here for 20 years. I love this area because of the easy access to nature and I have hiked all of the trails and many of the forest roads in the area. I'm happy to share info about things to see and do--and most important: where to eat!

Andrea purchased this studio in 1999

Why Andrea chose Yachats

This is my personal residence. RiverSpace, the rental unit, used to be the master bedroom. With its own private entrance, deck area, and access to the hot tub, RiverSpace provides a quiet retreat in a beautiful setting, nestled in the trees but still close to the beach, the little town of Yachats, and great hiking trails. Many of my guests tell me this is a 'sanctuary' where they find tranquility and restoration of mind, spirit, and body. I really enjoy sharing the beauty of this place with others.

What makes this studio unique

Privacy; peace and quiet; natural beauty; wildlife viewing (elk frequently roam across the meadows); places to walk along the river, up on the ridge, or along the country road; easy access to the beach, local shops and restaurants, and various tourist attractions such as the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. After an active day on the beach, you return to a cozy room and a rejuvenating hot tub.

Nice property. Gravel roads where car scraped coming in and out.

Would have been great to know it wasn't so private. Owner lives in house that it attached to the rental. Shower needed cleaned very bad. But other than that it was good.

Owner's Response: I am always distressed when guests aren't pleased with their stay at RiverSpace. However, the listing information makes it absolutely clear that the rental unit is part of my house, with its own entry and bath and no connection to the other part of the house. I'm very aware that some people don't actually read the listing description so if i get a reservation request with some communication from the guest, like "Wow a whole house in the woods for our honeymoon!" i immediately contact them to make sure they understand what they're getting. I'd rather lose a reservation than have unhappy guests. The driving directions which I provide to guests says "Turn on the gravel road." These guests didn't bring the directions with them (they had to call to get the address so they could use GPS) and obviously they didn't read them either. As for the shower, it is cleaned with bleach after every guest (as are all the surfaces). The water has caused some staining but it is as clean as i can possibly make it--I've never had a complaint before. If the guests had told me about their concern, we could have dealt with it, but obviously communication was a serious challenge. Again, I'm sorry they were unhappy--they are totally the exception to everyone else who has stayed here this summer.

Peaceful Seclusion

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Riverspace! It was so quiet and peaceful. The water is just a short walk from the house; we took tubes down and sat in the sun and water for hours- heaven. Close enough to Yachats to go to dinner or the store, far enough to feel secluded and private. The space was clean and had everything we needed; Andrea even gave us some of her coffee creamer when we forgot to bring any. Although very secluded, couples may want to know that there are no window coverings. :) Thank you for the lovely stay Andrea!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the very positive review! It was a pleasure having you and your friend here. It's true, there are no window coverings, and it's also true that the house is very secluded and private. There are no window coverings anywhere in the house. There's no one around and, truly, you would have to put a ladder up against the house to see into the RiverSpace room, because the house is four feet off the ground, and the windows are even higher! The trade-off is that guests are surrounded by trees and light.

Map

The central Oregon coast features great choices for activities, from fine dining to mountain biking, shopping to kayaking. The beach is just 15 minutes from the property and many other attractions are just another 10 or 15 minutes away--all along very scenic drives. The Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area offers miles of trails through coastal forests, tidepooling, spectacular views, and an interpretive center full of information (and helpful guides) about this area. There are three lighthouses within a 45 minute drive of the property. Alsea Bay to the north offers fishing, crabbing, clamming, and kayaking--and equipment rentals to support each activity. The bay is a designated Significant Birding Area where you can see eagles, herons, many species of ducks, etc. In the fall, Yachats features the annual Mushroom Festival--or you can just go foraging through the woods to identify and collect an incredible variety of fungi. RiverSpace is on a forest road that connects to a network of gravel roads that are perfect for mountain bikes. The Pacific Ocean is just 15 minutes away, with long sandy stretches of beach and also trails along rocky bluffs where you can see 'spouting horns' of ocean spray--and out to sea you can spot actual whale spouts as the huge marine mammals pursue their annual migrations between Mexico and Alaska. Many guests plan day trips--north takes you to Newport's Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Center, plus lots of fun restaurants and shops. South takes you to Florence and the remarkable sand dunes, plus more shops and restaurants. And Yachats itself offers plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining--unique businesses where the owner is usually on hand to give you personal attention.
