Overview

West End Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Breakfast on the balcony is a lovely way to start the day at Bracaway! Watch the sunrise, enjoy your coffee. Perhaps a few frigate birds and boobies will be soaring by. Located on the south side lagoon, this condo has exceptional swimming and snorkeling..... or you can just lie in the sun on the beach or by the pool. The lagoon is sheltered from the waves and surf which may limit water activities in other areas during periods of rough seas. A large double deck dock (the only one on the island) is located on the property. We recommend a night snorkel trip under the dock for an exciting adventure! Across the road in front is an old mangrove pond where some interesting waterfowl can be seen. The owners live on the island and will be happy to furnish information about snorkeling and diving sites, caves, back wood trails and hikes, etc. Breakaway from the ordinary..... Bracaway offers true peace and tranquility not found in those over-crowded vacation spots. NEW! For those of you who can’t break away totally, there is now individual dedicated WIFI for this unit!!

About Bonnie Scott Edwards

Bonnie and Gene will share their knowledge of Cayman Brac nature with you. Bonnie has been named Conservationist of the Year for the Cayman Islands and is a member of the Sister Islands Rock Iguana Species Management Team. Gene is knowledgeable about caves, trails and the geology of the island. They both are active in Turtle Patrol and wildlife rescue. They can also arrange a free nature tour for you.

They live here on the island year-round and will meet you at the airport, help you rent a car, take you grocery shopping and help you make arrangements for the things you want to do.

Bonnie Scott Edwards purchased this condo in 1999

Why Bonnie Scott Edwards chose Cayman Islands

Love it here on the lagoon where the water is calm enough to swim or snorkel 350 days out of the year. Walking distance to restaurants, bars, entertainment, scuba, bird sanctuary. Cayman Brac is the friendliest island in the Caribbean and almost crime-free.

What makes this condo unique

Private WIFI. Private double-decker dock, beautiful pool, calm water, close enough to walk to the two American-European cuisine restaurants on the island and one native bar/restaurant, choice of two first class diving facilities almost next door, pick-up available from dock, shore diving also.

Perfect for snorkelling or relaxing

  • 5 of 5

I'm so happy I stayed here. I'm a hardcore snorkeler and the best snorkelling was just steps from the condo, which had everything you could possibly need, and the Captain's Table Restaurant right next door was fantastic. Bonnie and Gene are wonderful hosts, and when I needed to go to the emergency room for a surprise problem but didn't have a rental car, they most graciously took me. The unit was so comfortable and even in July it was pleasant to sit out on the balcony patio. The airport, shops, other restaurants and other snorkel spots are only minutes away. Next time, I will rent a car and check out other snorkel spots. (There are also bikes for rent but I didn't get a chance to try them since I was unexpectedly sick.) Brac Scuba Shack has a boat that is docked right by the condo, and it is super easy to book a snorkel seat with them when available and explore offshore sites.

Friends on a adventure

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of the condo. 2nd floor was high enough to see the water and over the pool. Laundry room just steps from the door. A good resturant and bar 3 min walk from the condo. A short drive to Brac Scuba shack and to grocery shopping. The unit was perfect and had extra large storage to stow away your suit cases. Its a end unit so you get more light than some of the other units. Clean and ready for anyone who would like to stay at the west end of Cayman Brac.

Once you go Brac - you'll want to go back!!

  • 5 of 5

I'm almost reluctant to write this review because I want to keep this gem all to myself!!! But Bonnie & Gene are wonderful people, so I'll do it for them! :) Their condo is immaculate! You will want for nothing! I can't say enough about how helpful and friendly both Bonnie & Gene were. They were easily accessible throughout my stay - and helpful from beginning to end! Also Jeff & Cathy - who work in the main office onsite were also great folks! As was Rohan - he was my coconut water supplier!! Right off the trees! I'll never drink canned again! I thought I was coming to the Brac to lay on that hammock you see in the pics - which I did - for about 1/2 hour total!! I ended up doing so much! Bonnie hooked me up with a tour guide (Keino) and he took me everywhere! He was the best and very knowledgable on Brac history, culture and spots to see! We happened to run into one of the other tour guides (TJ) who also is wonderful! He took a little time to show me some of the hidden chambers in one of the caves we were visiting! I also dove with Brac Scuba - they were wonderful - I hiked, I snorkeled, I ate native food (check out Star Restaurant for a real local treat) and ask around for Miss Sonya - she cooks great food too! You must stop at the bakery - the coconut rolls are done only once a week - so try and get some if you can! If you can, check out Atlantis - an artificial reef - done by artist J. Foots - statues he created from green materials (local sand etc) that he sunk 40 ft down and it's now become a man-made reef to dive - he still has more statues he will be putting in the water. He lives on the island and will tell you all about it if you run into him. I had adventures from day one to my last day there - I could go on and on - and guess what - I'm going back to the Brac - already have my plane tickets and Bonnie & Gene's condo booked! I can't wait! Thank you Bonnie & Gene! Can't wait to see you again!!

Owner's Response: We love the Brac and want our guests to love it to. This is a special island, as Claire has said, and it's not for everyone. No wait service with island drinks on the beach - you'll have the beaches to yourself. Not much shopping, no fancy clothes required - shorts or swimsuit coverups worn everywhere. Our night life consists of local residents gathering to hear local musicians, with guests to the island welcomed and included in the fun. Can't wait to see Claire again! She's one of the special people the Brac was made for.

Vacation in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Cayman Brac has been on our bucket list for a while as friends have been there and told us it was a paradise. It was this and more. It's the best vacation we've had in a long time. You can snorkel in the lagoon even when the rest of the island is buffeted by waves.

Our great hosts, Bonnie and Gene met us at the airport, took us grocery shopping and gave us advise on restaurants, things to do, favorite snorkeling spots and hiking trails. We were really fortunate to have also been invited to watch the iguana tagging.

The condo was clean, nicely decorated, and everything we needed was there plus extras. There was even a jigsaw puzzle and books. This was a very relaxing vacation. You can seen many varieties of fish in shallow areas of the lagoon as well as rays and lobster and under the dock we saw large tarpon, angel fish and schools of other colorful fish. We snorkeled over the ship wreck (Tibbets) on the other side of the island as well as over a field of sea fans, corals, many fish and a few turtles.

We enjoyed hiking along the beach on both sides of the island and watching the water shoot up through blow holes. While hiking along the top of the cliffs we saw nesting boobie birds and caves we explored.

At night the top level of the dock was a perfect place to view the night sky. The view from the balcony in our condo, watching the waves roll in was spectacular.

What a perfect vacation. A big thank you to Bonnie and Gene!!!!

Attention: Wide-Eyed Snorkling Sun Worshipers

  • 5 of 5

...thank you so much for your hospitality, direction and assurance of a pleasant and relaxing stay in your 'fully furnished-all you need is a toothbrush' Caribbean condo! We truly felt we were given all the extras including a guided hiking tour, directions for individual tours & eating establishments, shopping instructions, knowledge of the island's rich history, and airport shuttles. All of our questions were answered as soon as we asked. We truly had a grand time on The Grand Cayman's sister island The Brac, our tropical destination. Of course we had our cameras but we also brought binoculars for a fabulous viewing of the night sky, away from all the brightness of big city lights. We're looking forward to a return trip!

(We'd like to add a post-script that Cayman Airlines was terrific-very friendly and nice people.)
