Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This beautiful 3 Bedroom/2 Bath Riverfront home is conveniently located one mile west of downtown Guerneville. With its location directly on the north bank of the scenic Russian River, you'll enjoy panoramic river views from the house, deck and back yard.

Enjoy a game of badminton on our spacious sunny upper lawn, or stroll down a gently sloped path to the lower riverfront lawn and lounge in the hammock or one of our Adirondacks. Our large Private Dock on the deep side of the river will allow you to enjoy a swim or kayak without the crowds of the local beaches. We provide a canoe and 3 kayaks (2 single, 1 tandem) for seasonal use (spring, summer, and fall - weather permitting). We also provide life jackets for paddlers of all ages.

When the sun goes down, you'll appreciate the finer points of our home, including updated appliances, furniture, linens, a Weber gas BBQ grill, and more. With beautiful vaulted ceilings and views of the river, the Spacious Kitchen is ideal for entertaining (dining table seats 8).

Big and small kids alike will love the foos ball table, ping pong table, large collection of board games and our 46” HDTV. At the end of the day, take a soak in the hot tub or curl up with a book in front of the wood burning fireplace or outdoor fire pit. Truly as good as it gets!

IMPORTANT OCCUPANCY CONSIDERATIONS – Although the Blue Canoe does sleep 8, we do limit our nighttime occupancy to 6 adults plus 2 minors (8 total guests). In addition, we do limit our daytime occupancy to 10 persons, including a maximum of 8 adults.

LOCATION - Our home is situated on the banks of the Russian River and is a convenient 10-15 minute walk or 3 minute drive to charming downtown Guerneville. With many world-renowned Wineries located just minutes away, Guerneville is the perfect hub for your wine tasting expeditions. Other attractions within 30 minutes of our home are the local redwood forests, the oceanfront towns of Jenner and Bodega Bay, and beautiful Occidental.

BEDROOM features include high thread count linens, pillow top king mattress, memory foam topped queen mattress, light blocking curtains, flat screen tvs, and plenty of comfortable pillows (choose from down and synthetic).

BATHROOM features include bath and beach towel sets, provided shampoo/conditioner/soap, a large jetted soaking tub in the master bath, and a shower/bath combo in the guest bath.

FULLY STOCKED KITCHEN includes an extensive spice collection, olive oil, balsamic, cooking oil, flour and baking supplies, coffee/teas, sugar/honey/cocoa, and more. The large cookware collection features high quality Cuisinart stainless steel Pro Series cookware and Teflon frying pans. The new small appliances include a toaster oven, microwave, Cuisinart, blender, mixer, juicer, and waffle maker.

NEWER MODEL APPLIANCES include a stainless steel French door refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and front-load washer/dryer. Our tankless hot water heater ensures all of the water lovers a hot shower after the morning swim. Cooks will appreciate the multi-BTU gas stainless steel range and range hood. The new furnace is equipped with a wireless remote access thermostat that allows us to pre-heat our home for our winter guests, prior to their arrival.

OTHER TIDBITS: Tons of private off-street Parking.....10-15 minute walk to downtown Guerneville and Safeway.....large upper Back Yard.....easy access down a gently sloped path to the riverfront Lower Yard and Dock. NOTE: Due to our location on a river that is prone to flooding, our home (along with many other homes on the river) has been elevated above the floodplain. As a result, we have 26 steps leading into the home. Once inside the home, it is single-level.

PLENTY OF ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE KIDS (AND ADULTS): .....Foosball Table and Kettler Ping Pong Table.....Get the laughter going when you break out the Board Games (and find out who is most competitive!)....over a dozen to choose from...Scattegories, Cranium, Apples to Apples, Balderdash, to name a few.....Wirelessly stream your favorite music from your laptop iTunes to our stereo.....Grab a book from our library of over 100 books and curl up by the wood burning fireplace.....Kick back and watch cable TV (premium package, hundreds of stations), On Demand, HBO, and Netflix movies on our High Definition 46' flat panel TV and Play Station 3.

We purchased our river home in spring 2010 and have been upgrading it ever since. As homeowners and your hosts, we pride ourselves in taking great care of our home and providing our guests with little touches that set the Blue Canoe apart from the usual vacation home rental. Please let us know if have any suggestions or special requests.

About Ken & Rebecca (Blue Canoe Inn)

Rebecca hails from what native Californians refer to as 'back east'. Translation - The Midwest. Ken hails from Quincy, a small town in the Sierra Nevada. Translation - Native Californian. Rebecca and Ken are both former travel junkies and outdoor adventurers turned DIY obsessed homeowners, with an ongoing list of improvement projects for our vacation homes. Our jobs (Rebecca in commercial interior design and Ken in real estate finance) keep us tied to San Francisco as our home base, but we love escaping the city every opportunity we get (and yes, Rebecca is often reminded by her relatives 'back east' that being 'stuck' in San Francisco isn't all that bad).

Ken & Rebecca (Blue Canoe Inn) purchased this house in 2010

Why Ken & Rebecca (Blue Canoe Inn) chose Sonoma County

Our passion for the outdoors led us to purchase our first vacation rental home in the Lake Tahoe area in 2005. Our first home was so well received that we decided to try our hand at a second vacation rental home, this time a tad closer to San Francisco, but still keeping with our love of the outdoors (and our additional love of good wine). As for this particular home, we fell in love with the beautiful kitchen/dining room and its spectacular riverfront setting the moment we saw it. Lastly, the huge garage provides many opportunities to expand our amenities package (plans are in the works).

What makes this house unique

Inside our home you will find nice fluffy bedding, high thread count sheets and quality furnishings that set our home apart from the typical vacation rental.

Guests will also find our kitchen well stocked with tons of nice things that even a gourmet chef will appreciate.

But it's really our riverfront setting and connection to nature that makes our property so special. With our lower yard and permanent dock, our guests can enjoy extended access to the river in the spring and fall that other riverfront homes with seasonal docks cannot offer.

Guestbook comments from the owner

5 old friends, 4 cities spread throughout the U.S. 3 days to spend with each other catching up, laughing, drinking wine, snuggling, lounging in the hot tub, cooking meals and reminiscing about memories that go back 20 years. We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our long weekend. The house was lovely, clean, well stocked and casually elegant. We're already planning our return trip. Thank You!

Peaceful, relaxing home with river view

  • 5 of 5

Blue Canoe is a great place for families of all ages. Situated directly on the Russian River in Sonoma, it's location is favorable for an abundance of recreational activities as well as close vicinity of excellent wineries.

The house is comfortably furnished with lots of games, books, and puzzles for all ages. The kitchen is super well equipped and made meal preparation easy.

The house comes equipped with kayaks and a canoe, although we did not use them. The owners are extremely easy to work with and respond quickly to questions. We enjoyed the many recommendations for restaurants, locations of local farm markets, bakeries, etc. that the owners gave in written notices left in the home. The owners are extremely pleasant to work with and respond quickly to questions. The only caution I would note is the steep steps to house entry which would be a concern to anyone with limited mobility.

Great Sonoma County location even in the rain

  • 5 of 5

The house is located in an area accessible for day trips to many wineries, the Pacific Ocean, several fun towns, restaurants and beautiful drives through the hills.

It has a great kitchen; well stocked for cooking if you want to eat in. The main room is very roomy, comfortable and cozy. Great views of the river. Due to the weather, we didn't go down to it, but it would be fun on a beautiful summer day as would the large deck. Comfortable beds with good lighting for reading.

Blue Canoe getaway

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the home. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen was spacious and we'll stocked. Just a 2 minute drive from the quaint downtown area. There are lots of Russian River wineries nearby and also a beautiful 30 min drive to Alexander Valley wineries.

We loved staying in the Blue Canoe.

  • 5 of 5

The house was well equipped with everything a person could need. It makes such a difference to have essentials--paper products and basic cooking spices and oils, especially for the option of cooking at home. This came in very handy for this particular visit because the rain was heavy and wind strong much of the time. We spent more time in front of the fire, reading, relaxing in the hot tub and generally enjoying the ambiance. This is a perfect place for summer kayaking, games and exploration. It was also perfect for hunkering down and playing games inside. Thank you.

It has everything!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place! From beds to boats- it has it all. 3 bedrooms, 7 seats on kayaks/canoe, foosball, ping pong, and a hot tub to satisfy all ages. Full kitchen with a lot of staples and spices. Level of cleanliness of the couch and beds and the rest of the house made us feel comfortable and at ease. Kids loved the board games and ample tv channels. 5 min drive to Guernville with a Safeway, shops, food, and a brewery. Korbel winery is only 10 mins away. It was fun watching the bats at night in the hot tub with the Milky Way galaxy haze in the background. Be prepared for a quick maintenance visit by the spa man Fridays at 10am. Great trip and accommodations!

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful! This is exactly what we needed. A quiet getaway with friends and family to celebrate our daughter's 4th birthday/Labor Day weekend. The property was very well maintained and everything worked the way it should. There are a lot of houses on the street and you could see/hear other houses, but it still felt very serene. Beds were so comfortable -- more comfortable than our bed at home! Hot tub was nice. We didn't use the kayaks and canoes, as we didn't trust our skills. But, we did dip in the river, which essentially becomes a lake with the dam during summer, and floated a bit. The river temperature was very nice and refreshing. The property came with pool noodles and some floats with mesh bottom and we brought some floats as well. There were enough life jackets for every size from infant, toddler, young kids and adults. We had bought life jackets for the kids but the ones at the house were nicer and fit better, so we saved some money. :)

The ping pong table was fun. The TV and surround system as well as the netflix access and DVD player were all great. There were some board games and toys that kids could play with as well.

The kitchen is AMAZING. I would like this kitchen in my house! Other reviews were true. The kitchen was very well stocked with salt, pepper, oil, spices, etc. and everything was very well labeled. The fridge even had ketchup and mustard, which we forgot and were so glad to find. The coffee that came with the house was very delicious. Although it said tea was provided, there weren't whole lot of tea bags left in the tea jar, so if you're a tea drinker, bring your own. It did have french press you can use to brew tea and a tea kettle. We made three gourmet dinners and one yummy brunch in this kitchen. 24 hour Safeway is just a mile away, if you need to pick up anything. Everyone ate well and had a wonderful, restful, fun-filled weekend.

Ken and Rebecca were so easy to communicate with and were very responsive and answered all of our questions.

The size of the house was perfect for 6 adults and 2 kids. Everyone agreed we should make this an annual tradition.

Tip -- the garage door is not automatic. It's a manual pull and being a petite lady, I didn't have the strength to do it myself. Some guys went down and figured out to open it pretty quickly though. There is no direct access from the house to the backyard, but the opening of the back garage door makes the backyard quite accessible.
