'Stay Ohia' Cozy Cottage from $99 Volcano 2 bd/1 bath Private

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,300 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

We have built a BRAND NEW comfortable secluded 1300 sq.ft. home in the volcano fern forest. We love spending time here for the quiet atmosphere, fireside experience and relaxed peaceful getaway feeling. We want to share it with you in hopes that you will find this too. This is the 'Big Island' and if you are visiting Kona, it's a long drive to circle the island in one day, so making a couple nights stay in the Volcano area at our place will be the ideal way to do it. Ask about our Kona rental as well.

There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet. Our place is full of the best that we always wanted in a get away cabin, such as pine walls, black granite counter tops, slate and tigerwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the latest in media entertainment, all the way from the old fashion record player to a large flat screen high definition tv, Ipod docking and the ability to see your computer on the tv for slide shows of your most recent trips.

We are long time residents of Kona and are used to helping tourists have the best time while they're here so feel free to email us. All the best with your travels, Mike and Liz

This was an awesome cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here during our time at the Volcano National Park. It was

only a couple of miles away. We loved the house, the setting, the cleanliness of it, and all the many extra touches the owners provided. The kitchen had everything we needed for

cooking meals . We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect for visiting Volcano National Park

  • 4 of 5

My wife and son and I stayed for 2 days on 12/31. Place is great and well stocked with most essentials. Location is 5 minutes from Hawaii Volcano National Park entrance. Temperatures were 20 degrees colder than at sea level. Do your food/supply shopping before you arrive to Volcano area, two stores with limited items.

Cute cottage in the rain forest near Volcano Village. Convenient to explore Volcano NP and Puna area

  • 3 of 5

We stayed 3 chilly nights in this very nicely appointed cottage about five minutes drive from Volcano Village town. Fairly easy to find in the day but it’s really dark at night and could be tough to locate. The general location is very convenient if you plan on spending time exploring Kilauea in the National Park, which is right up the road. We recommend the Kilauea Iki hike in particular, but there’s lots to do, and being close by helps! We also spent a day snorkeling at Kapoho, which is very doable from this location. Kitchen and rest of the house are well equipped. Easy to see it’s a second home with lots of personal touches. It was very chilly during our stay (inside the house was 54 degrees on our arrival!) there is a fireplace, and heaters in the bedroom and bath kept us toasty for the most part. There are instructions for the fire, but even following them we usually had to make several attempts before the wood would catch (we’re experienced with wood stoves at our own cabin). Fire starters just went out without igniting the logs several times. Finally got things going using more and had a couple of good fires during our stay. Because of the high ceilings, the living room didn’t warm up fast. Luckily after the first cold night, the house was 68 degrees when we came back from our day out. Also the bed has lots of warm covers and is very comfy. Restaurant choices nearby are limited but good. They were very busy when we were there, so recommend reservations if possible. Recommend coming with groceries or you can go to Kea’au about 1/2 hour away. We also appreciated the Roku! Thank you to Liz for sharing your home with us!

About Liz Wright

My husband Mike works for a catamaran company in Kona. I have a professional cleaning business as a self employed owner for more than 20 years. I have lived in Kona for 40 years, originally from Vancouver, Canada, and Mike has been here for 26 years, originally from Oahu. We own our home in Kona and enjoy the volcano area when we can. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA' Mike Cabral and Elizabeth Wright

Liz Wright purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Liz Wright chose Ohia Estates

We love this area because it's so opposite from Kona. It's cool and country with beautiful fern forests all around. It's only 1 mile from the volcano village and 2 miles from the Volcano National Park entrance. Heading out to explore for the morning and returning for lunch is so easy. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA'

What makes this cabin unique

I've always loved a 'real wood burning' fireplace and that is what we have at our spacious cottage style home. It's a warm comfortable atmosphere that allows us to enjoy the things we don't in the faster pace of Kona, like playing music, board games or just relaxing with good conversation. I do a bit of running and the neighborhoods are generally flat and free of roaming dogs.

Car: necessary

There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet.

Hey! FREE WIFI!!!!

Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, wildlife viewing
