|Space||1,300 sq. ft.|
|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
We have built a BRAND NEW comfortable secluded 1300 sq.ft. home in the volcano fern forest. We love spending time here for the quiet atmosphere, fireside experience and relaxed peaceful getaway feeling. We want to share it with you in hopes that you will find this too. This is the 'Big Island' and if you are visiting Kona, it's a long drive to circle the island in one day, so making a couple nights stay in the Volcano area at our place will be the ideal way to do it. Ask about our Kona rental as well.
There is so much to see and do at the Volcano National Park, not to mention visiting Hilo and the beaches there. Or just 'STAY OHIA' like we do to relax and enjoy the fern forest and quiet. Our place is full of the best that we always wanted in a get away cabin, such as pine walls, black granite counter tops, slate and tigerwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the latest in media entertainment, all the way from the old fashion record player to a large flat screen high definition tv, Ipod docking and the ability to see your computer on the tv for slide shows of your most recent trips.
FREE WIFI too!!
We are long time residents of Kona and are used to helping tourists have the best time while they're here so feel free to email us. All the best with your travels, Mike and Liz
My husband Mike works for a catamaran company in Kona. I have a professional cleaning business as a self employed owner for more than 20 years. I have lived in Kona for 40 years, originally from Vancouver, Canada, and Mike has been here for 26 years, originally from Oahu. We own our home in Kona and enjoy the volcano area when we can. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA' Mike Cabral and Elizabeth Wright
Liz Wright purchased this cabin in 2009
We love this area because it's so opposite from Kona. It's cool and country with beautiful fern forests all around. It's only 1 mile from the volcano village and 2 miles from the Volcano National Park entrance. Heading out to explore for the morning and returning for lunch is so easy. If you are going to Kona, ask about our rental, 'STAY KONA'
I've always loved a 'real wood burning' fireplace and that is what we have at our spacious cottage style home. It's a warm comfortable atmosphere that allows us to enjoy the things we don't in the faster pace of Kona, like playing music, board games or just relaxing with good conversation. I do a bit of running and the neighborhoods are generally flat and free of roaming dogs.
Stunning home. So comfortable and easy in a perfect location in Volcano. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
This cottage was awesome!!! The owners have created a wonderful home for visitors to stay in. They provided, coffee, chocolate and muffins for our first morning, any amenity you could ever ask for, it was super clean and modern, wonderful back porch, open high ceilings, super TV( HBO, and more) super comfortable bed, close to the Park, quiet, filtered water. We would highly recommend this home to folks coming to Volcano, Hawaii!!
The only drawback is that there is only one bathroom, so sharing the house with another couple could be a little challenging.
This home is a beautiful home in a native vegetation forest with wonderful amenities. It seemed like every little need was considered and accommodated. All instructions were carefully and clearly outlined. Everything was luxurious - beautiful kitchen, fireplace, aromatherapy, wonderful back porch, nice bedding, bountiful towels, robes / slippers, and elegant furniture.
The only difficulty, but perfectly understandable in this more remote location, is the need to use bottled water for drinking. But this difficulty was, as everything else, wonderfully taken care of with a plentiful bottled water supply and dispenser(s).
The appearance of the home is exactly as portrayed in the photos; it was great to walk into the place to stay and see all that we had imagined, and more! The owner was also very accessible as needed. The home is also situated very close to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the town of Volcano.
Stay Ohia is more than a cozy cottage! It's a very luxurious and nicely-appointed house. The photos accurately depict the quality appliances and nice wood finishes, but because they don't show the high ceilings, they don't adequately depict what a grand space you're getting.
That spaciousness is very important in Volcano, because the sky often descends to the ground in a cloudy, drizzly, clammy way. A bright, comfortably-furnished, airy great room with a fireplace is a real asset under those conditions. The wood stove plus electric heat are adequate to beat the chill. In sunnier conditions, the front porch and large covered back lanai provide comfortable, very private outdoor spaces for relaxation and grilling.
The beds are comfortable, and the quiet location is conducive to a good night's sleep, especially if you've spent the day hiking in the National Park. The location is perfect for easy access at any time to the views of Kilauea Crater, and the array of thoughtfully-provided warm clothing and umbrellas means that if all you brought from home was tropical wear, you can still enjoy lava viewing in comfort while others are fleeing the bitter wind in their shorts and flip-flops.
The house does require a certain amount of management. You'll need to responsibly operate a wood stove, and the very-necessary dehumidifier will require a small amount of attention. The welcome warm and beautiful fire and dry interior make those chores no trouble at all, but you need to be prepared to be self-sufficient to that degree. The washer and dryer are also conducive to self-sufficiency.
We were expecting a lot from this property, and it was far beyond what we expected. Highly recommended.
