All the 'typical' information is listed below, however, the reason that this home was recently ranked (by far) as the #1 ranked vacation home is because of the spectacular combination of views, quality of home, quality of detail throughout the entire home. The owners spend an average of 60 nights+ per year at the home with their family and are constantly monitoring the home and adding upgrades each and every year.
We recently hired a house manager to add even more value to our valued guests. Quite simply, our job is to make "Raving Fans" out of every family that spends time in our home making memories of their own.

What makes Summer Place different than the other rental homes on Lake Gaston?
For several years we owned & managed dozens of beautiful homes on Lake Gaston. We successfully sold that business because it was simply too frustrating to have home owners not invest in their own home for the satisfaction of our guests. We now only own and operate the famous "MacDaddy" home on Lake Gaston and rent out Summer Place on a limited basis.
Keywords: Estate Lake Home, Lake Gaston, Main Lake Home
The Daltorio's are a family of 7 who enjoy their lake home. They also offer it for rent when not able to use it due to other activites of their 5 children.
Update--It is now 5 children, one daughter-in-law, one grandson and one granddaughter!
Vicki Daltorio purchased this house in 2004
Privacy -Full acre wooded lot with vacant wood lot to the west.
Not a rental! - You'll quickly see this is a second home with quality throughout, we just happen to rent on a limited basis.
Sun sets - Top of the boathouse allows not only 10+ jumps into the lake but also best views of sunsets
Fishing - No need to travel...fish right of the dock and catch over 10 different species of fish
Swimming - great location and deep clean water with very little boat traffic close to home.
Fun X5 - The new Aqua Trampoline with slide, blob & log are best on the lake and anchored just 50 feet of our dock
Location - Best location on the lake just minutes from restaurants, bars, marinas etc. by boat or by land.
Optional - Best boat available on lake gaston. Rent a brand new (2015) tritoon with 200 hp and tons of upgrades ($77k boat) vs. beat up rentals.
When renting from MacDaddy or our home ask about how to get a free sea doo for the week.
When you take a vacation at a lake, it is very different from a typical beach vacation. We own investment properties at the beach, but our best memories and vacations have all been at Lake Gaston. A few helpful hints to remember: On the ocean, all homes have beautiful views. On the lake, not all views are created equal. The south side of the lake has tremendous sunset views. The Main Lake views are a must on vacation vs. being tucked away in a small or shallow water cove. Fortunately for us, our home offers the best of all of these options, and our previous renters whole-heartedly agree!
Our week at Lake Gaston was the family highlight of the summer. I had never heard of Lake Gaston, and I was somewhat skeptical; but the lake is beautiful and the home is lovely. My wife's two sisters, their families and our 7 grandchildren had a vacation to long remember.
The views from the home, the spacious lakefront deck and the many amenities make for a very comfortable retreat. The six bedroom home is roomy and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is large with adequate seating inside and on the balcony deck overlooking the lake.
Outdoor ping pong and a fire pit added to the available activities.
Every summer we had tried a different beach location: NC, SC and FL, but the lake vacation beats the beach. It was good to get away from the sun & sand in favor of boating activities on the lake. The grandchildren enjoyed swimming to the anchored trampoline which they named "Pirate Island".
The owners were extremely cordially and helpful with all my questions. The only complaint I heard all week was not enough towels bars/hooks and a total lack of dish towels which could have been part of the linen rental.
It is a great property and an outstanding home.
I've been renting homes from VRBO for many years now and I'm revealing my secret for finding the best homes regardless of where you rent. Look for homes where the owners view their properties as second homes that they just happen to rent to guests on occasion. These types of owners are constantly upgrading their homes and we get to benefit from their work! This is certain the case with SummerPlace. We've stayed here years ago and could not wait to come back. On the way to the lake our family was discussing how much fun we had with a water trampoline and making camp fires the last time we were at the house.
When we arrived we immediately were reminded about the amazing lake views from this gorgeous luxury home. They were even better than we remembered! We then noticed all new high end boat house furntiture, a new outdoor living area with a huge fire pit, a new outdoor living area with a HUGE brand new spa, new furnture, new flooring, new bedding, new 60" HDTV...the list goes on and on!
I've spoken with the owners so I knew that they came to the lake a lot and only rent their home when they can't use it. I highly recommend this luxury lake home for not only the views and the deep water & great fishing right off of the boat dock but also because of they way the owners maintain & improve their home annually.
We love Summer Place!
I'm a person that truly believes a vacation is what you make of it. But this past weekend was successful as a result of what the owners did. We had a large group of 20 women together for the weekend - ages 22 to 60+ - and everyone seemed to love it. No issues with hot water running out, there were towels for everyone, adequate lounging space, and a great feel and flow to the house. Upon arrival, we did realize the water pressure was extremely low. One quick phone call to Vicki and we had a plumber arrive within the hour. He discovered a water pipe had frozen over and burst and another hour later - all was fixed! As is typical for a group of women...we spent the weekend talking and enjoying each other's company. I don't believe a single TV was turned on, so I cannot attest to that aspect. I did expect the house to be a bit more isolated from the neighbors, so keep in mind this is a residential neighborhood. Unfortunately, at some point during the weekend, we damaged their wood floor. I was extremely distressed about telling Chris and Vicki what we had done, imagining the worst case scenario. But Chris was very reassuring on the phone and seemed more concerned that we enjoyed our time there. While I think you can find a beautiful house just about anywhere to enjoy a weekend away - Chris and Vicki made this experience worth every last penny.
First I was amazed at how looks are deceiving from the street. this home is much bigger than it appears & the use of recycled plastics was great way of going green! Most of the homes in this gated community are rented out like this one. That being said, The House Rules should be posted on this web site.. No Smoking in the home ( while this is understandable) but anywhere on the property? (have to go to the street or there's a fee), No Pets of any type allowed on the property. No moving of the furniture or there's a fee, bed linens are provided for a fee~ that the customer puts on and takes off at the end of your stay, appliances were dirty, closest store is 25-30 minutes away, Fire dept is volunteer and will take a while.. That being said I would recommend this home to others, and tell them the pros and cons up front and let them make their own decission
This lovely home is all that the web posting promised and more. It rained every day we were there and we still had a wonderful time. Nine of us, ages 71 & 72, enjoyed the spacious rooms, exceptionally comfortable beds, well-appointed, spacious kitchen with lots of counter space and an ample pantry. Also the iew which was visible from all rooms through vast windows.
During breaks in the rain, we managed to hold three ping pong tournaments. The clouds cleared on the last afternoon and we finally saw the beautiful sunset. A good time was had by all.
Every moment and detail of our (20 people) stay was enhanced by this beautiful home and location. This owner created an environment that welcomes everyone. Everything advertised and the pictures are true and do not do this location the full justice of being there. Our time was not during swimming weather but the beauty of the sunset, fish lights, cleanliness and funtionallity of the home and amenities and the entire rental process, was superior. We will return! Thank you Chris and Vicki, Mike M. and Family
