Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This is a unique property on Maalaea Bay. Recently upgraded and renovated, it boasts wheelchair accessible features such as a large master bathroom, ADA compliant, including a large roll-in shower. Ground floor accessibility and very close handicap parking stalls make access ideal. No elevators to have to deal with. You can roll right up to the sandy beach!

If you are not in need of accessible features, this unit is still the perfect getaway. It is in a quiet area of the Makani A Kai condominium with lots of privacy. Adjacent to a wildlife preserve area and 4 miles of uninterrupted sandy beach, there is no other condominium to the south for miles.

It is also directly adjacent to the best swimming area in Maalaea and a world-renown surf spot. The locals know that this beach is the best kept secret on Maui - away from the high-traffic tourist areas.

We live and grew up on Maui and our own house is only minutes away! If you have any needs, please feel free to call us!

About Jon Toda

We live and have grown up on Maui and consider this the best beach on the island. We come to enjoy the beach here ourselves every weekend! We take great pride in keeping our unit clean, tastefully furnished, and fully equipped.

Why Jon Toda chose Lahaina

There is no better condominium property in Maalaea. Take a drive up and down Maalaea and you will see for yourself!

What makes this condo unique

It makes a difference to be at a property right on the sandy beach. This low-rise condominium has a swimming pool and a nice grassy lawn with lawn chairs and a BBQ area with gas grills - all right on the beach! During whale season you can see whales playing just offshore.

A well maintained condo at the end of a dead end street that opens to a 3 mile undeveloped beach.

  • 5 of 5

The owner has made an obvious effort to make his guests' stay a comfortable one. The place is nicely decorated with a well equipped kitchen, blow dryers in both bathrooms; lots of hangers; beach towels, chairs, umbrella; a portable cooler and cold packs to put in it...I was reading comments in his guest book from over the years and it seems he has addressed whatever suggestions people have had. There is a small day use park next to the condo building that seems to be used mostly by families with smaller children because of the relative safe (but small), sandy access to the water. I loved the central location on the island; pretty much 20-30 minutes to go anywhere, but then you could come back to the quiet of the dead end road and undeveloped beach that backs up in part to a bird wildlife refuge. The owner was very accommodating- even called when we first got there to let us know we could call him if we needed anything. There is a small air conditioner in the living room and ceiling fans in the living room and both bedrooms. Opening the bedroom windows a little at night with the ceiling fans running provided adequate cooling. There are laundry facilities for the complex with 4 washers and dryers that use quarters. $1.50 per wash load and $0.25/10 min drying as of this writing. There are bbq grills you can use on the complex, and a fenced-in pool for those who don't want to go in the salt water. You can't really see the water from the unit, but I feel like this place was excellent for the price. If we ever go back to Maui we will seek this out again!

Nice and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Loved our week at this apartment. Nicely decorated and kitchen is small but very useable. Can see the ocean but must walk through complex to Ocean. The beach 🌊? is a little rough. Not really good for walking on and has rocks. Ok for adults but not good for small children. We would go here again.

Comfortable condo with good accessibility for a wheelchair user

  • 5 of 5

We found Jon's condo to be very complete, and made us feel at home away from home. I found the bathroom well equipped for my handicap. Overall the condo is spacious enough to comfortably move about in a wheelchair. From the condo, there are no great views but there is a very good access to the grounds and the beach area. It has all the necessary amenities and even more: beach towels, lawn chairs, paper towels etc. Just be prepared the washer and dryer requires coins. We were very pleased with this rental.

Hi Jon,

this was our second visit to your condo and we were just as pleased as the first time! We brought some friends and they were equally impressed with the privacy and location of your condo. Deb and I just want to thank you again for your part in a PERFECT vacation!

We'll be back! Third time's a charm right?

Mahallo!

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent stay, as advertised. We loved the wheelchair accessible condo; the location was ideal and Jon was a fantastic and responsive host. The place is right down the road from the harbor and the ocean is right in the backyard. The street is private and dead-ends into a beach park and is in a lovely section of Maui (not too overpopulated). The condo is right near Kihei and is located in a great location midway to everything. We loved rolling down to the Ma'alaea general store (cut through the back way by Tradewinds grocery store) and particularly recommend the blackened shrimp tacos!!! The accommodations were lovely and the roll-in shower was terrific. We had a great snorkeling trip with Four Winds right at the harbor and they were very accommodating with my wheelchair scooter. One thing we were not able to do was swim in the little beach right behind the condo because the water was pretty rough. That could be because it was rainy season, but I'm thinking the swimming spots nearby would be more optimal. The caretakers of the property were lovely and helpful, the grounds immaculate, the lawn chairs, grills, cleanliness and pool were all terrific. Thank you, Jon for being such a thoughtful and kind host and being so responsive. We hope to stay there again!

Accessible unit

  • 4 of 5

Cons:

Window air conditioner in living room only. Unit is right next door to a camping area that is very noisy so you are not able to open your window's at night. As I am writing this review at 7:19 am the grounds crew at the camp ground is weed wacking.

There is no washer and dryer in the unit. There is a community laundry facility close to the unit, however there is not a change dispenser and it operates on quarter's.

The curtains in the unit need to be replaced.

The fan in the bathroom next to the living room is very loud.

Pros:

Access to the beach

Boogie boards, chairs and a cooler

Clean unit and complex

Managers were very accessible and friendly.

Netflix available with the smart tv in the living room.

Ample parking.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback regarding your stay. There is no camping allowed in the park adjacent to our property, as the signs posted there indicate. The property owner on the other side of the park does allow camping by permit. That owner was notified of the noise and improper use of the park during your stay. We’re sorry that it impacted the peace and tranquility of your stay. Also wanted to mention that we do have plans for new curtains in our unit.
