About John and Linda Herrick

Both my husband and I were born and raised in the mountains of Colorado but fell in love with Hawaii on our first visit to the islands. After several years of visiting we decided we wanted to have a familiar place to spend time there and to be able to share it with others. We hope you enjoy the condo as much as we have!

Why John and Linda Herrick chose Kona Coast

Kona Makai is an extremely well maintained complex with beautiful grounds and numerous amenities. The complex has both permanent residents and short term vacation renters and the atmosphere is always warm and friendly. Beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed each evening at the water's edge.

What makes this condo unique

We love to sit on the lanai and watch the sun rise over the ocean or relax at the end of the day by the pool. Whales and dolphins can frequently be seen in the waters just off the shoreline at the complex.

Perfect Hawaii vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and are two adult children decided to ditch the turkey and tinsel and instead, have a family Christmas vacation in Hawaii. We had a wonderful time! The owners were very responsive and easy to work with. They provided us with easy to follow directions and a host of ideas as to what we could see and do during our stay. We stayed for 6 nights and it provided us with a comfortable base to discover Big Island. We drove across to the Hilo side of the island to visit the National Volcanoes Park which was really interesting but it made us glad we had chosen the Kona side for our main accommodation as the beaches are so much nicer on this side. Our favorite beach was just north of the airport and required about a mile long drive down an unmade road but it was worth the effort as I got to swim with so many turtles! The complex was beautifully maintained and the pool and Jacuzzi area was never overcrowded. The views of sunset from the pool area were amazing! The accommodation is spacious and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and having the washer and dryer to use was very helpful. Perhaps the only issue we had was that the internet Wi-Fi signal wasn't very good. It is about a 20 minute walk into the center of Kona where there are plenty of bars and places to eat. We had such a great time and if we ever return to Big Island we would try and stay here again.

Fun Times!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with another couple stayed in this condo for a week in January of 2013. We loved every minute of it! The weather was beautiful. It never rained on us once in Kona. But I understand the other side of the island is very wet and it rains almost daily. Glad we stayed on this side of the island! The condo and ammenities were top notch, more than expected. Very clean. Nicely decorated. We loved sitting out by the pool in the evenings and early mornings watching dolphins and whales. This condo is a great location, we walked into town every day, going shopping or to restaurants. We will return!

Lovely, comfortable condo

  • 5 of 5

We (2 55+ adults and 2 adult children) stayed at this condo for four nights in July 2011. The unit is very comfortably furnished with the potential to convert the twin beds to a king. We loved having a washer/dryer and a very fully equipped kitchen. Our picky chefs were completely satisfied with the variety of kitchen tools. The complex is quiet but conveniently located to the shopping area and beaches just down the coast. The owners were very helpful in booking our stay and providing answers to our questions. If we return to Kona we would definitely rebook for the peace of mind in knowing just what we were renting.

Very nice place; clean and lovely

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice stay this unit in Kona Makai in January of 2011. The condo complex is centrally located in the Kailua - Kona but a little bit more towards the quiet end of the main condo strip. It's a bit too far to walk to the main shopping / dining area, but that's a plus in my book because it is so crowded at the shopping end.

The condo complex is older, but very well maintained. The grounds are beautiful with lush, well-tended vegetation. Although we didn't use it very much, the pool / BBQ area for the complex was clean and pleasant, and there is a very nice view of the ocean. Overall, the complex was very quiet and felt like it's own little world.

The unit itself appeared to be recently remodeled, with a spiffy kitchen and new comfortable furniture. There is very nice TV and a washer / dryer. One of the best features is that the owners have stocked a closet full of beach gear -- high-quality boogie boards, toys for tots, beach towels, beach chairs and other fun stuff. It's really nice to have all of that! The unit is quiet and is a good distance from the common area by the pool. There is small view of the ocean from the lanai, but you really have to walk up to the pool area to get a good view. One note is that the king bed in the master bedroom appears to be two twins pushed together with a king topper, which was totally fine, but there is a slight difference in the height of the two mattresses. Nothing uncomfortable, though.

The owners were very helpful answering questions and forthright in all dealings. I would highly recommend this unit as a good value, especially for two bedrooms. It is very nicely done.
