Our home was built in 1964 among the banyan trees. It is an old style plantation home restored to its original beauty, with 12' rock and wood wall fence. It is extremely private inside the walls and lots of bird viewing (we feed the wild parrots and birds). We provide fresh fruit from our farm when you arrive. The bikes can be used to tour the Kona village. You are downtown, but it doesn't feel like downtown. The house screen style (for our great Kona winds) with a/c in all bedrooms. The home is colorful and Hawaiian theme throughout. The mongoose are fun to watch and the salt water pool area has its own music and bamboo luu. You are surrounded by great restaurants and walk to the lua and great shopping. You can walk to beach and swim or surf.

We have lived in Hawaii for 10 years and run an avocado farm. We want to share our love for the old plantation house and hope everyone enjoys the aloha in Kona.
pam mclaughlin purchased this house in 2000
Love for the trees and close to the beach.
Very large, private. Secure, close to good food, shopping.
Pam greeted us when we arrived and had fresh fruit waiting. The place reminded us (siblings) of our cabin in Santa Cruz, CA when we were growing up. Lots of places to run and hide which the girls loved. And although we had to wait for the pool guy to show up (1 day) and no fault of Pam's, we loved having our own pool. Because of wiring, you do need to read the signs that says no more than 1 appliance at a time. Unfortunately the washer did go out while we were there and was unable to be fixed during our stay but that didn't slow us down a bit. Overall Pam is a great hostess, the house is great for family or a large group. And you're only 2 blocks away from all the tourist shops. Mahalo Pam for being a wonderful hostess.
What an interesting, fun place full of character. We had a great time for four nights with a bunch of friends - all of which had their own space in this five BR very large property. This is not a resort - something made clear in the description. I feel some reviewers missed the point on that. If you need a sterile, surgically clean resort setting look elsewhere. The strengths of this place are in it's charms and sheer size. It has some rough edges and older accouterments. This is a "plantation style" older house with a huge screened main room and bedrooms off to the sides. Nature is all around you wrapped in green trees: bugs, lizards, birds, mongoose, neighborhood cats - all pay visits to the property. It wasn't enough to deter us or cause us concern - this character is what we wanted and it never felt wild. Bedding, towels, floors, bathrooms - all very clean and tidy. The beds were some of the most comfortable we had on our trip. The pool is small, but refreshing. Location cannot be beat - steps away from anything in Kona town. Yet this house is ultimately private and exclusive. Pam was great and communicated quickly. We all thought it was a perfect place for a bunch of people to stay, each with their own room. AC in bedrooms worked fine for night times. This house is perfect for adventure seekers or nature lovers, or just a group of non-fussy friends hanging out like us!
This is a great place to stay for a group or extended family. We used it for a group of five at a conference and it worked out perfectly. It's an easy walk or bike to the ocean front, the farmers' market, the large hotels, restaurant's etc, and very easy to get to. Despite the central location the high fences make it completely private. The large living space and porch as well as the gazebo and pool area are great hangouts and the plantings make things cool and pleasant in the heat of the day. The house is very well maintained and spotlessly clean and the yard is spacious, well maintained and pleasant. Pam provides bikes and snorkel gear, there is laundry and a dishwasher plus a well stocked kitchen, and Pam is extremely communicative and responsive. She very kindly let us check out quite late on our day of departure since there was not another booking that day, which was much appreciated. If your idea of perfect is a high-end hotel or resort, maybe this isn't the place, but if you like a funky and well-equipped place with room to spread out, it doesn't get much better. We will absolutely return and greatly look forward to it.
The property was situated in the perfect central location & was very private. It actually had a lot of living space to accommodate all 11 of us. However, the house itself was dirty. The bathrooms are so old that you need shower flip flops. It is most likely filled with mould behind each wall. The house is infested with flying cock roaches & ants. The kitchen sink was backed up everytime you used it which was disgusting when we washed our dishes. The dishwasher didn't even clean our dishes properly because that was also backed up. We had to clean our dishes, utensils & cookware before we used it because it all had old food encrusted on it. Maybe this is another reason why cockroaches have made this their home... We had to replenish our own paper towel & toilet paper. We even asked her about the oil for her tiki lamps that were completely out, and she said "I buy, you buy, we buy" uhhhhh...what?? The last day of our stay solidified the fact that all the homeowner cared about was our money. She knew our flight was not until late that evening & said on the first day that we could stay as long as we needed to. She arrived at 4pm unannounced, came into the house & told everyone loudly that we needed to get our things out so she could clean. She didn't even ask us anything in regards to our stay. So we quickly packed up our van and left in a hurry. We considered leaving & seeking other accommodations, but found it difficult as there were 11 of us & we had already paid for our full stay up front. For such a beautiful island, we wished that we would have been able to go "home" after our outings each day to unwind in a clean house. With this all being said, the family vacation was still filled with so many amazing memories. I just personally feel that if you are looking into renting this property, you should know that it's great for people who love camping & cockroaches, but for a person who enjoys a clean environment & also has a bug phobia. You may want to reconsider. I absolutely loved the island, but did not love the house.
Pam was very amazing to work with. She was great at communicating and staying in touch with us while we were coordinating the trip and worked with our crazy flight schedule. We loved the Treehouse. Our kids enjoyed the pool, there was plenty of room for us to spread out and the location right in downtown was fabulous as we were able to walk most places. The house is an older home, but with tons of character and the property is clean. We are recommending this place to everyone we know that would be planning a trip and will stay again if we return to Kona. It was so nice to have a place to come home to when we had exhausted ourselves at the end of the day.
Great place for multi-generational family vacation. Comfortable, roomy, large open LR and Kitchen, Lanai...pool is shaded. Very private. Convenient to town and the pier. Grocery and restaurants close. Owner was extremely helpful. The 'keiki' beach to the right of the pier and in front of the King Kam Hotel was perfect for the kids, as we experienced high surf and surges during our stay. The photos are accurate. I have already recommended this property to friends.
