Owner’s Profile I am originally from California and my husband from Germany. We came to Paris as students and absolutely fell in love with the city. Once married we settled together in Germany and raised our children in Berlin. We knew that Paris would become a second home. We both ended up having many professional ties and obligations in Paris. We bought this studio over twenty five years ago. It is the wonderful location and it was indeed the spectacular view that sold it to us. We live in Berlin, but we have always spent much time here both professionally and socially. Our children were able to attend school here and spend many vacations in France. Paris is still one of their favorite spots. They have entered professional life in very different parts of the world and traveling has become common to all of us. Thus, we have less time to take advantage of our studio in Paris. For this reason we have decided to make the studio available to tourists who might cherish Paris as much as we do. We have completely modernised the studio to include all of the equipment required to add to the comfort of a stay while enjoying the city.
Czarina Wilpert purchased this studio in 1982
What do I particularly like about this location in Paris? Paris is a city to walk in. No matter how often one visits one is compelled, at least I am, to walk to almost all destinations.. Paris is not only beautiful and the most important city for tourism in Europe, it has a unique intimacy. This neighborhood is very lively, the small shops amazingly interesting and the shopkeepers attentive. In addition to the architechtural sites, the numerous historical spots, I love the many open air fresh food markets at all times of the year. Especially wonderful in this neighborhood is the weekly Sunday open air market on the nearbye Boulevard Raspail. It is known for its rich assortment of healthy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and meat and all kinds of condiments. It is the best place to plan your Sunday dinner. The sellers, producers, bakers, grocers, fishmongers, butchers are all welcoming and willing to advise you in how to prepare certain delicacies. Us shoppers are also amusing curiosities.
For your intellectual / cultural interests you have several French bookstores only a short walk away for French readers on Blvd. St. Germain in the neighbhood of the famous Café de Flore is known as a favourite for French intellectuals. For English language books you have Shakespeare and Company a tourist spot of its own on the left bank side of Notre Dame. A bit closer to our place there is another English language bookstore behind the Odeon Square is the San Francisco Book Company. In the same area along St. Germain at the Odeon metro you can catch the most recent English language (or German, Italian and of course French) films in the original version at the nearbye cinemas. Parisians love the cinema. The revivals of the best American, British and other European old timers will be found around the Boulevard. St. Michel and Cluny in the Latin Quarter, another short distance by foot, bus,or metro. Not far away is another destination for a short walk, the beautiful Jardin de Luxembourg Park. Also the walks along the Seine and in the Jardin de Tuilleries set between the Louvre and the Place Concorde. Within easy reach and I find them equally beautiful for passing an aimiable time, alone or with others in Paris on a Sunday or holiday. But there is no end to other pleasant tours and cosy corners within and on the outskirts of Paris. Although most Paris visitors bring their own guides you will find some guides and ideas in our studio that we and our guests propose to you. Have fun enjoying being a Parisian for at least a week or more!
The apartment was cozy, clean, and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay there and were well taken care of by the owner who was very kind and responsive. The surrounding neighborhood is wonderful with many places to eat, drink, and shop. We hope to return very soon.
Perfect small studio. Yes it is small, but you are in Paris, you are seldom in the apartment and when you are there it is more than a perfect, there's that word again, size for two adults. Location is excellent with two metro stations (two different lines) within a block in either direction. Also two grocery stores, the practical Carrefour City and La Grande Épicerie de Paris also within a block in either direction. We used the Carrefour for everyday items, i.e., a soft drink or milk; La Grande Épicerie where we bought a heat and eat entree from their deli area one night. As mentioned in previous reviews, the view is amazing, especially at night. Czarina is very easy to work with, and very prompt. Lionel, who met us at the studio, was courteous and very helpful showing us the studio. 5-day stay made for an enjoyable time in Paris. Best compliment we can give? We would absolutely stay here again.
We loved Czarina’s atelier studio. Our vacation in May 2016 had us staying at the apartment for 10 days and it really had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Not only was it conveniently located near two metro lines (there is a line that goes north/south and another that goes east/west), but it was also well appointed with amenities and had an amazing view making it the perfect place to relax. The neighborhood is also fantastic and very safe-feeling. Along the apartment’s street are stores like the Grand Epicurie (Whole Foods on steroids), Carrefour (budget grocery store), and many other amazing stores- fromageries (Quatrehomme), boulangeries (Secco, Eric Keyser), and more.
Here are some other features that made this apartment stand out. It is on the 6th floor, but it has an elevator (a small one, but essential after a long day of museums). The small kitchen is thoughtfully stocked and laid out- it has a dishwasher, nespresso machine, hot water kettle, and microwave. There is a washer and dryer machine (It is an all-in-one and was a little tough to figure out. I recommend having Lionel (Czarina’s representative) walk through the steps with you). While a studio, it is a well-sized studio for Paris and was perfect for 2 people who like being around each other. It is decorated thoughtfully and with personality- more Parisian homey than modern, which is our style. And finally, the view was spectacular. Right out your window are the rooftops of Paris, the dome of Invalades, and the Eifel Tower.
When reviewing VRBO options, there were some items that gave me pause at first, but were not issues. The fold-out bed really was comfortable and easy to put away. The bathroom layout was a little different. The shower is off the kitchen (there are dividers) and the toilet is separate. Overall not an issue and allowed us to get ready faster in the morning.
I really cannot stress how amazing this studio was and how perfect it was for our honeymoon. The apartment was more affordable than hotels in the same area and having the kitchen allowed us to eat-in for many of our meals (and eat in really well with a view)- easily keeping us in budget. We feel so fortunate we found this little gem and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and plan on coming back someday soon.
My partner and I stayed for 5 nights in June at this charming studio in the heart of St. Germain. The location is absolutely ideal and central to all the major sights in Paris. One can walk easily and safely around this elegant neighborhood. Within a leisurely 30 minute walk one can stroll to the Seine and the Grand Palais, the Musee d'Orsay, Louvre and other sights or simply enjoy discovering the charms of the neighborhood. Metro and bus lines are also very convenient. The view is wonderful and we were delighted to see the Eiffel Tower sparkling every night! It's conveniently located across from Le Grand Epicerie and Bon Marche where we sampled delicious gourmet treats for our home made breakfast with skyline view. This area is also a culinary dream with several fantastic modern bistros, wine shops and traditional restaurants or cafes nearby. This studio was a perfectly comfortable and inviting place to stay and enjoy a holiday in Paris. The fold out bed is very comfortable and did not bother my sensitive back one bit. There is an elevator so you can easily take your luggage upstairs. The manager was very welcoming, spoke excellent English and made sure that we had everything we needed. He was kind enough to even recommend some jazz clubs in Paris when we asked! We would highly recommend staying at this lovely flat rather than paying for an over-priced hotel room in the same area. We would certainly return the next time we're in Paris for work or pleasure!
My husband and I stayed in this lovely apartment for a week in November. The location was excellent and the studio was very comfortable. It was perfect for two people. The Christmas lights were already lit in the city and we loved watching the beautiful lights on the Bon Marche across the street from our window and of course seeing the Eiffel Tower light up and sparkle every night! The location could not have been better. We walked everywhere! Went to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre and Jardin de Luxembourg among other places and also walked many beautiful residential streets admiring the architecture. Bakeries, butchers and pastry shops are all close by as well as the Carrefour supermarket just down the street. The metro stops are very close too if you need it. I decided to rent this place because I found the owner to be very kind and genuine in our email contacts. Lionel met us at the studio on our arrival and he was great too. In fact, everyone we came across in Paris was very kind so don't believe what you read about Parisians! The French people are wonderful. Thank you Czarina for the opportunity to stay in your cozy studio. We would definitely stay here again the next time we visit Paris!
This was our first time ever doing a home away, ever!! So we decided to take a chance in Paris. We were in this flat for about 5 nights. If you have looked online for a hotel in the same area, you would have 2 times the rate on this flat. The value is unbelievable, the location is awesome, the view is dreamy. Every hour on the hour, you can see the Eiffel Tower light up. We would have a glass of wine and look out the window at the Eiffel Tower. Safe, 2 metros stops on both sides, a shopping center across the street, grocery store down the street. Everyone in the area speaks English. Would I recommend it again...YES!! And we plan on coming back. This was the best deal of our entire trip!! Also, the owner was amazing with answering all of my questions and putting me at ease with the entire process. The property manager, was hilarious and he was very flexible in planning our arrival and he even gave us the lay of the area and places we should check out.
Without question, this place is worth it!!
The photos and the description are spot on! This Paris flat is in the wonderful 7th Arr district (St Germain) and is central to everything. It is two blocks from the Vaneau metro stop one direction and three blocks from the Severes-Babylone station the other direction… very convenient! Great restaurants one street over in Cherche-Midi, neighborhood grocers down the street, The Bon Marche is right across the street. Nice to stay in a quiet, city neighborhood. The view from the french doors is stunning with the Eiffel Tower and the gold dome of Les Invalides as part of your skyline. The owner was very helpful as we planned our stay and her local Paris representative was fantastic! We enjoyed our eight night stay and would recommend the flat to anyone who is a seasoned, independent traveler. It is clean, comfortable, spacious and the sofa bed was amazingly comfortable. Be advised there is no AC, but unless you hit Paris in a freak heatwave, (as we did), that shouldn't be an issue. In any case, there are wonderful breezes at night. Would definitely stay here again next time we are in Paris!
