Don Gill purchased this villa in 2000
The proximity of the Cancun Airport, the sightseeing and numerous activities in the area and the privacy of the villa's location. The property is within walking distance of many restaurants, grocery stores, laundries, fishing charters and dive shops. also, the area is very safe, we sleep with doors and windows unlocked. children and women can walk alone at night and feel very safe and comfortable. THE AREA IS VERY QUITE, NO NOISE BUT THE SOUND OF WAVES ON THE BEACH AND A WARM TROPICAL BREEZE.
Quiet, relaxed, laid back. The best feature is an intimate private swimming pool and beach area diverse enough to accommodate anything from modest family activities to an environment that is conducive for couples wanting to enjoy a more intimate, romantic, European style atmosphere.

This is the 4th time I've stayed at this property, & while every time is wonderful in every way, this time was just amazingly PERFECT! The house is always kept up so well on a daily basis by Amado & Inez (caretakers - you couldn't ask for friendlier people!). From taking a dip in the pool to snorkeling in the bay, there is nothing better than this property for the view, location, & amenities offered! I HIGHLY recommend staying here. I know we'll be back as soon as humanly possible :)
Our family stayed at your villa and it was the best vacation we have ever had! We had a large group and the accommodations were able to house us all very comfortably. The pictures on your website are beautiful but to actually see it all in person was more than AMAZING !! Unbelievable views from each room. Your staff greeted us when we arrived and were so kind and helpful. Inez cooked some meals for our family and they were wonderful. We enjoyed eating outside by the pool and taking in all the views. Everything was in walking distance and the town was very warm and felt very safe. The snorkeling right in front of your house was also AMAZING!!! We will definitely return again next year for another relaxing vacation. We wanted to say thanks so much, Don for answering all of our questions and making us feel special. Your home is truly a wonderful place to escape!!!
When we arrived it was dark. I was given the code by the booking lady. The upper bedrooms were locked and we had to search for a phone number to call Eduardo the groundskeeper. He rushed right over. He was wonderful. I felt very misinformed though and would have liked more info before we arrived. The keys were right in the pouch on the table. There is an info book but the information is slightly lacking. We had to ask for the Wifi password. More kitchen towels. (We only had 1!) the water pumps run LOUD so ask how to turn them off so you can sleep. It's not a big deal just a bit of info that we could have used before we arrived. Or at least put in the info book. Leave the towels on the floor if you would like clean ones. We hung them up so they dried and then had to ask for clean ones.
All of this aside the villa had plenty of room for all 13 of us! The views are amazing and the children were in the pool the moment they awoke! The front porch is a great place to relax and watch the wildlife and other tourists walk by. We rented bicycles at Vista del Mar just up the road.
The stairs up to the Palapa above the casita are precarious but once up there it is beautiful. The family sat and played cards and we would have loved to have family dinner up there, but
" the stairs" .
We felt very uncomfortable throwing our recycling items in the trash. And the last day we were there I found the Akumal recycling area just down the street. Grrrr. I wish there was an extra can in the kitchen and that we would have known! Also throw your leftover food items in the jungle next to the villa. It saves the torn open trash bags by the road. And you get to watch the Coatimundis and agoutis enjoy their dinner from the porch.
We had Inez prepare dinner one evening. She is a GREAT cook! Because of the slow working stove at the villa They prepared the meal at their home and brought it over. We had Pollo wrapped in banana leaves, rice, black beans, tortillas, and an amazing peach and milk dessert. If we would have had dinner sooner in the week we would have had her prepare more. Or at least had her bring more dessert!! Make sure you have her make you at least one meal!
Wow! What a wonderful home. Our extended family of 16 (including 3 in baby cribs that we rented for the week) had a great time at Villa de la Playa. There was plenty of room for all of us, and we never felt crowded. The house is just a few steps from the sea; the ocean breeze is warm and welcome. The beach directly in front of the villa is rocky; be sure to bring water shoes if you want to enter the water here. As you walk from the villa along half moon bay, there are fewer rocks. We saw many people enter the water there to snorkel. The pool is small, but sufficient for the children. Two doors down the street is the La Buena Vida bar and restaurant, which has great food and a friendly, easy-going environment. Be sure to go for "happy hour." A little further is the Corner Store, which has snacks and alcohol. (By the way, to locate the villa on a map, google the restaurant. Also, the locals know the place by its name, Villa de la Playa. To drive to the villa, follow the road until you get to the restaurant, then back up to the pink house.)
The caretakers, Emelio and Inez, were helpful and pleasant. They cooked two excellent meals for us.
There are two master bedrooms, one on each floor. The upstairs one is the owners' suite and is a large and beautiful room. One master bedroom downstairs has a sliding door that opens to the pool and vistas of the sea. Downstairs are two good-sized bedrooms which share a bathroom. Upstairs are two more, small bedrooms, each with private bath. These two open onto a balcony with nice views of the sea. Finally there is a casita, which is a studio apartment attached to the back of the house.
Suggestions: Bring water shoes, as mentioned above. Bring a flashlight, as there are no street lights in Akumal (for the benefit of the turtles). If you are driving from the airport, stop at the Super Che in Playa Aventuras to stock up on food and beverages. Also, shop using pesos, not dollars. Note that some ATMs give dollars; others, pesos.
Cons: There are no laundry facilities at the villa. The nearest laundry (lavanteria) is across the highway, where you leave your laundry for pick up the next day. The steps to the balcony above the casita are difficult to climb, to the point of being dangerous. Finally, the plumbing in the casita needs some serious work.
To summarize, all of us had a great time and would definitely go back in the future.
An Absolutely amazing property. The view is breath taking. So much to experience but also quiet and private. Loved the local restaurants and shops that are in walking distance. The locals were also very friendly and helpful. Experiencing a rare moment and watching the lunar eclipse over the Caribbean was priceless. The Villa is amazing and very well equipped with everything you need even beach towels. I have so many beautiful pictures wish there was a place here to post them
The house is amazing and the views are even better. The house is 30 feet from the water the snorkeling is great and the restaurant two doors down from the house by the road or 50 yards down the beach is called LaBuena Vida has great food and a fun atmosphere ( i love the sand floors YES sand ) its a beach restaurant so that's what they do. Also while we were there a new restaurant opened in town ( by the way town is a 15 minute walk or a two minute drive not far at all ) Taverna is an authentic Italian restaurant and i know what your gonna say, Italian food in Mexico ? but its delicious and like everything else down there very reasonably priced even low priced. As far as the house goes i can not say enough good things plenty of room lots of amenities and very clean. the view is great and the atmosphere is extremely relaxing we spent 7 days there and one of those days just totally relaxing at the house. The owner and his staff are very nice and very reliable. We loved it so much we booked the house today for our vacation next year.
