Great location for family
My family of four stayed for a week in Brando's Over Water Bungalow. The property is exactly as described. It is well suited for a family with 2 bedrooms, nice bathroom with double vanities and an amazing shower, well equipped kitchen, and spacious living room. The availability of a grill and outdoor dining area allowed us to cook many delicious meals while enjoying the sunset. We also enjoyed watching the outrigger canoes passing by. There is easy access to the water from a ladder on the dock so we enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking in front of the bungalow. My teenagers appreciated access to high-speed Wifi and watching Netflix on the large TV after sunset. The bungalow is in a convenient location- close to shopping and to Matira Beach. Our favorite activity was the lagoon tour and we were even picked up at the bungalow! The lagoon tour is definitely a must-do activity. Snorkeling with the black tip reef sharks and the beautiful fish at Coral Gardens is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We decided to rent a car from Nir which was useful for trips to the market and circling the island. I can't compliment Richard and Nir enough for making our vacation amazing! They were the perfect hosts- helpful and responsive. They provided a clean, well-equipped, attractively decorated home away from home. I would definitely recommend the bungalow to others and would stay there again if we're ever lucky enough to return to Bora Bora.
All was perfect, thank you so much for this incroyable and unforgettable expérience. Thanks to Nir. See you soon I hope in Bora Bora....
Great place to stay in Bora Bora.
The owner is very helpful with info about checking in, as well as tips during your stay. The local manager is a very affable and knowledgeable man that can help coordinate tours and services for you during your stay. Don't do what we did and wait until the last minute however! That said we had an amazing trip and would do it again, exactly as we did.
The bungalow itself is ideal if you aren't looking for resort living. To us, it was better, as we had more freedom, privacy, and our own little slice of Bora Bora. It is also great to be able to cook your own meals and store food in the fridge and freezer (some bungalows have this in resorts, some don't). Kitchen was well stocked with the necessary implements, by the way, and the gas grill worked well. Internet, TV, Netflix, and air conditioning all worked perfectly. It was also great to have a tandem kayak handy, which we did use to paddle across to the islands near the edge of the reef. Amazing and recommended! Would do it again for sure.
We had a great two weeks at this bungalow in beautiful Bora Bora! It was spacious, well appointed, right over the water as advertised, private, and convenient by car to town, beach, shops, Heiva festival, and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again when we return to Bora Bora. Maururu!
A great home-away-from-home on Bora Bora
For those who are looking for a self-catering stay on Bora Bora (rather than a resort) this bungalow is a fine, fine choice! My wife and I feel we couldn't have found a better "fit" for our preferences anywhere on the island. Staying here was a pleasure and a privilege!
The bungalow is spacious (two generous bedrooms, big living room, open kitchen) and well equipped. It's quiet at night (the wind in the trees, and water lapping on the pilings are the loudest sounds) and feels very private. Fish and stingrays cavorting in the lagoon, and outrigger-canoe teams racing down the coast were our most frequent neighbors. The airport motu is in sight, but the sound from the occasional planes was never intrusive.
Nir (the property manager) was absolutely a joy to deal with; he's prompt, friendly, and responsive to all inquiries by email or phone or text.
If we ever manage to return to Bora Bora, this bungalow will surely be our first choice for a place to stay.
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We try so hard to offer our guests the very best. Hope to see you again someday! Richard and Seiko
We expected more at this price range
We rented Bungalow 1 for 4 nights, but ended up checking out 1 day earlier, and went to Four Seasons hotel instead.
Here are some pros and cons of staying here
- Nir (the property manager) is awesome. He is knowledgeable about the island, he helped us book a couple of tours, both turn out great. Nir also has a Jungle like rental place, you should definitely check it out.
- On the water. Besides hotels, there are only 5 over the water private Bungalow on the main island. Property has a float and kayak, and the water is not deep, so you can easily enjoy water activities.
- A/C. Even though it is not super hot there, we find it is still very convenient to have A/C.
- Amenity is very primitive. We came with the dream to cook some home meals, but it is not practical, because of lack of basic cooking necessities. For example, no cooking oil provided. We do not feel like stocking up the whole kitchen (e.g., buy a whole jar of cooking oil) just for a few days. We ended up just boiling some eggs. Also, no dishwasher, and like a previous review said, the cutting knife is not sharp at all, so it is not usable.
- Other basic necessities are lacking too. For example, no US power adapter is provided. In bath room, the power outlet does not work because of "safety" reasons, so you have to plug in hair dryer outside and dry your hair without mirror.
- Location is not ideal. All restaurants and hotels are all on the south side of the island. There is not much to do nearby.
- We had a lizard co-inhabiting in the house.
I take our reviews very seriously as you can see by reading all our 4-5 star comments... We are not a resort, as I always tell our guests and having a home on the water in Bora Bora is a once in a life time experience... To me, this is a perfect example of not being able to please everyone all of the time. We offer our bungalows with care and love and will fix or replace anything in a timely manner. We try to keep adapters in the bungalow but you can buy them for a few dollars at the market. We have a full kitchen with stovetop, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, coffee maker and a full sized gas barbecue on the lanai. We don't restock the kitchen, although many times past clients leave items for the new guests to use. The nearest restaurants are minutes away. This is a full sized home, with two bedrooms over the water. You would have to pay thousands of dollars at the resorts to get anything like it. I am sorry these guests were not satisfied. It sounds like the resorts are more their style.
The owners of the Black Pearl are proud to announce the acquisition and remodel of both of Marlon Brando's famous Over water Bungalows with FREE WIFI. Jack Nicholson Owned #3. James Michener called Bora Bora 'The most beautiful island in the world. And it is, it really is. Bora Bora is one of the Society Islands in the South Pacific, Tahiti being the largest. It is only a seven and a half hour flight from Los Angeles, and the same time zone as Hawaii. To get there, you take a direct flight to Tahiti and then a 45 minute island hopper to Bora Bora. You are now officially in paradise. Use your state of the art kitchen to prepare a meal, or dine out at the many fine restaurants on the island. The activities are endless if you wish to keep busy, or just lie down on the veranda, listen to the water and finish that 1000 page book you can't seem to finish. Life takes on new meaning when you are surrounded by the serenity and the beauty of Bora Bora. Come and see for yourself!
