Puamana is a gated community that is located near the heart of the historic old whaling town of Lahaina in sunny West Maui, Hawaii.
In all of Hawaii there is nothing comparable to the beauty of Puamana. Our splendid townhomes are located on 30 acres of lush botanical gardens, large expanses of flourishing lawns and along side nearly a half mile of beautiful oceanfront with breathtaking views of the ocean and the islands of Lanai and Molokai.
Puamana has three pools, a tennis court, clubhouse and a library. There is a quiet ocean pool, a kids pool and play ground, and a third pool. It is located on a half mile of oceanfront and half is usually sandy and half is usually rocky. Residents and guests, surf, snorkel, swim and kayak right off the property. The property is walking distance to the town of Lahaina's shops, restaurants, and the Marina where the boats come and go and the fishing boats bring in their catches. There are many banana, mango, lime and avocado trees on the property that yield great fruits for guests and residents.
The gated community that has security is great for kids and adults who want to experience the 'quiet enjoyment' of this very private property. Once you vacation at Puamana, you will never want to go anywhere else! We have visitors that have been coming to Puamana for more than 30 years.

One of the greatest things about this unit is sitting on the oceanfront lanai having a glass of wine, watching the beautiful sunsets over lanai, watching the whales jump, and watching the stars and the cruise ships come in and out in the evening.
We had a great time swimming and surfing right off the beach in front of your condo. Our evening dinners on the lanai were the best oceanfront seating in Lahaina. Thanks for a great time in your beautiful home . We will be back for sure.
This home was great for our family of 6. We loved the proximity to the beach, beautiful sunset views, accommodating kitchen and grill, and spending time at the patio table enjoying each other's company by the ocean. Would definitely recommend it for a family get away.
I am writing this review sitting on the covered lanai literally fifteen feet from the edge of the ocean listening to the crashing of waves, SPECTACULAR!!!
The bottom line: Would we stay in this townhouse again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat! The price while not exactly inexpensive is a pretty good "value", especially for Maui.
The close location to Lahaina is also quite excellent. Several things other reviewers mentioned are somewhat true. The close proximity to the water is why I would not recommend for anyone with small children. I am an experienced ocean swimmer and entry into the ocean from the two access points is difficult and somewhat challenging due to the large rocks, many covered in algae or moss (don't even attempt without good surf shoes). However, this inconvenience is easily overcome by the close proximity to Puamana Beach Park which is less than 100 feet away (there is a gate you can use). Puamana Beach Park has a small but nice sandy beach to enter the water. There are usually a lot of surfers (especially the stand up paddle board surfers), so it seems a little safer if you are going for a swim or just want to frolic in the water (there are no county lifeguards like you find at some of the bigger Hawaii beaches).
One other note worth mentioning. The townhouse is beautiful with the Hawaiian Koa wood and several Hawaiian quilts handmade by the townhouse owner and does have three upstairs bedrooms. The one bedroom facing the ocean with the lanai is spectacular and the other two bedrooms are smaller and being on the front side of the house are suspect to road noise from Hawaii hwy. 30. The noise can be alleviated by keeping the windows closed. This only works well if you don't mind sleeping with the bedroom door open and the people sleeping in the oceanfront bedroom do the same, thereby allowing a nice nighttime breeze and the most wonderful sound to sleep by: the sound of crashing waves.

I was concerned because one of the reviews said this unit didn't have convenient ocean access. However, Puamana recently made a Beach Access rith in front of this unit so we could just walk through using the gate code and be on the beach . Very convenient. The unit has a very well equipped kitchen with every appliance and gadget you would want to cook a majority of your meals and eat on the oceanfront lanai. I was also concerned about it being on the highway but when the windows are closed for the AC, the ONLY thing we could hear was the ocean! We will be back! A rested goup from chilly Wisconsin
The location of the property was perfect. Loved the view and the outside patio area. Very quiet on the ocean side of the condo, but the 2 smaller bedrooms are on the highway side and very noisy. We had to close the windows at night to sleep. The master bedroom was gorgeous, the view from there was amazing. There was a beach right next door to the property which was very nice. Kitchen had everything we needed. They had a lot of beach equipment. All in all, it was a great place to stay. Leeann was very easy to work with and always available.
We stayed here over Christmas with our two sons, ages 11 and 13. Booking and dealing with the management went smooth and easy. The townhouse is spacious and as advertised.... We enjoyed cooking in the large kitchen, each having our own bedroom, and having lots of space to spread out. I loved being close to Lahaina.... we didn't walk there as it was probably about 30 min walk away with no actual sidewalk, just a shoulder, but it was about a 5 min drive, close to grocery shopping, feast at lele, surfing lessons , Front street etc. The townhouse is in the last section of townhouses before Puamana beach park (public beach) but we didn't notice any issues from that. It is located right on the highway, and at first I thought it would really annoy me, as I am very sensitive to noise, but we found if we kept the door on that side of the house closed, it wasn't noticeable. Our eyes and ears were drawn to the other side of the house, with the ocean!
A couple things I wish I'd known: although the townhouse is oceanfront, you are not allowed to access the beach in front of your townhouse. You have to walk way way down to a common access point, which is super annoying. There are signs and caution tape all along the shoreline saying $250 fine if you go down to the beach at a no access point. But to carry all the gear and walk around is annoying, when paying for a waterfront place..... You have to haul stuff as far as if you were not renting waterfront. The other thing is that the beach is sandy with pockets of big rocks. We went swimming without watershoes and within 15 minutes we all had cut feet, my husbands pretty badly. So if you swim there, be sure to wear Aqua socks.
I'm torn about staying here again.... The place itself was nice, location on Maui great.... But I think I'd try to find a place where I was allowed to access the beach right at my rental.
We visited for a week in July with two adults and four teenagers and couldn't have been happier. The townhouse, the location, and Leann were all fantastic. Plenty of room and everything we needed in the kitchen and for the beach were available for our use. Felt like we were in heaven with the beach only seven paces from the edge of the lanai.
Would definitely book this unit again for a return trip to Maui!
