Why Niamh OSullivan chose Long Island

The house has fantastic views and is a serene spot for us when we want to get away from the city.

What makes this house unique

Mastic Beach is very near the Hamptons without the Hamptons prices. Likewise for Fire Island. By staying in Mastic Beach you can do great day trips all over long island, take the ferry to fire island (30 mins away) , drive or take a short train ride to the hamptons (30 mins to 1 hr 30 mins depending on where you are going, east or west hampton etc), or drive into the center of manhattan in 1 hour and 20 mins.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely time, the house is beautiful and quiet! Very convenient drive to the beach. Most amenities were supplied by the house. It was great to have a grill to use and the kitchen was nice to cook and dine in! Thank you!

Good time - mix up with dates

  • 4 of 5

Overall we had a good experience in the house. The managers were responsive to email and text, which was helpful throughout the stay. However, there was a BIG misunderstanding regarding the dates of our stay, which cost us a full day. If you sign a lease be sure to also confirm the dates with the landlord in an email.

Owner's Response: I'm delighted you had a good time and thanks for your kind comments on our helpfulness. All our homeaway correspondence, our inital reply, the payment request and payment receipt all had the correct dates. The payment request from Homeaway also tells you the dates you are booking when you are paying for the booking. If it says for instance Pay Now for June 10th to June 17th in the homeaway system then those are the dates you are going to be booking by hitting accept and making the payment. Homeaway then blocked off those dates on the homeaway site as booked. It was a pity it happened and I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

Wonderful, peaceful and spacious home with amazing water views!!!

  • 5 of 5

There were four of us in the house for 4 nights and we left wishing we could stay longer. The location is quiet, right by the water with such beautiful views. It was joyful to wake up to those views from the bedroom windows.

The house is comfortable..you can just sink into it and relax. We had planned activities during the days away from the house while we were there, but ended up wishing we had more time to spend at the home. It's well-equipped with everything you need. It was big enough for all of us to gather together and to also have our own space and quiet time if we needed that.

Thanks to the owners, Eoin and Niamh, who graciously rented the home to us on such short notice. We can't thank you enough!!

The home is in a great location, with easy access to main roads leading to everywhere on the Island. There are plenty of places for shopping and eating closeby.

Highly recommended!!

Recent Stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time during our stay on Mastic Beach at the Architectural Bayview House. There was plenty of room for our guests and the accommodations were everything we expected. The house was easy to locate, well-maintained, and the owners were helpful and responsive. We were fortunate to be located by the bay with the breeze because the temperatures were higher than normal during our stay. But we had easy access to anything we needed---including groceries, fishing gear, and the beach!! I would recommend this house to other travelers.

Beautiful views, very well priced

  • 4 of 5

A group of 10 adults stayed here for labor day weekend. The views were incredible, the deck and grill was awesome. We cooked every meal and had such a great time. The kitchen was large enough to accommodate many cooks.

A quick drive to Smith point beach and it was such an escape from the city. The house is nestled down a dead end road, so you definitely had your privacy.

Even though the house is a bit older, you can't beat the price. The owners were very responsive and gave us a detailed guide of the area. We would love to come again. Thank you Eoin and Niamh.

great views, reasonable accomodations

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice stay at this property on a two night weekend. The view from the deck is fantastic and we enjoyed clear bay and moon views, including from the bedrooms. The house was clean and had a generous number of towels and linens. The owner was very responsive and available by phone and email. There were also cooking utensils so that we could prepare breakfast etc. Although the furniture is sparse (not full of furniture or decorations), it had everything we needed, i.e. beds, seating, tables, storage, and ultimately made it easy to pack our things and tidy up on departure.

Although the town of the property does not have too many dining or entertainment options, the owners have an in depth guide of nearby beaches, towns, and where to get items like groceries etc, and we ended up having very quick access to multiple nice beaches. Likewise, it is not a 'luxury' destination, although the water views and deck definitely make it stand out and outshine the other factors. In the end, our whole group agreed - it's a great value (distance from city, water views, responsiveness, and good layout of house). Recommended.

In Disrepair!

  • 1 of 5

We stayed for a week during the holidays. The price way over the value of the place that was in disrepair. The location was near the water, and you were awakened in the morning by gun fire of duck hunters. It was remote and felt a bit unsafe. The kitchen housewares and table/chairs were in poor condition and not clean. The hot water came and went in the upstairs shower with towel/toilet paper holders falling off walls, door to linen broken, towels raggedy. Master bedroom had ONLY a bed, no chair, no chest of drawers. We laid our cloths on the bed of the 2nd bedroom which had a chest of drawer that was falling apart. There was wiring obviously not up to code coming from walls which was extra worrisome because we had 3 smoke detectors that started buzzing and had to disconnect them. The draperies were falling down and unclean along with the sofas. On a positive note, the owner was responsive to our problems with the smoke detectors and when we booked, and quickly refunded our deposit. I do not recommend this place.

Owner's Response: I was very disappointed to read this. We're alway trying to make sure people who stay are happy and also aim to make sure guests expectations are in line with what they see upon arrival. Please let us know during your stay if you have issues as we'd love the opportunity to fix them while you are there. Just to go through a few of the comments - smoke detectors , batteries do run out and we ask in our lease and instructions that you assist in keeping the house low cost by helping us out and replacing batteries when they are low. The house has two main smoke detectors connected to the monitored alarm system. We have several more for added safety that need battery replacement when the time comes. In this case our cleaner replaced them when the following tenant let me know. As for wiring , I'm not sure what to say here at all as there is no wiring issue, the town does a rental inspection every year to make sure everything is up to code, including make sure the house has the right amount of smoke and a carbon dioxide sensor near the boiler. - hunters gun shots and being remote , yes the house is on the edge of a wild life reserve area. It does feel somewhat remote which some people love. Hunters hunt ducks when in season. I myself have never heard them but have seen their hideout set ups when I go on walks thru the wetlands. - furniture , there is a bedside table at eitherside of the bed in the master bedroom. And two large closets with hangers and hanging space and shelving. We'll look into adding more furniture but I think a prospective renter should be aware that the photos are indicative of the furnishings. - cleanliness , the house is kept clean and we rarely get complaints but please heed this review if you are obsessed with renting an immaculately clean house. Also consider hiring your own cleaner. We will happily wave the cleaning fee we charge for the cleaner we would have sent there. - price , just a quick note on this. I think you can see for yourself whether the price is competitive but in order to get the absolute best value for money please rent for a full week and not for say 3-4 days. The other 3-4 days are empty for us. Thanks for reading. I hope this review and response helps and I hope you let us know if you have any issues during your stay.
