A Memorable Stay
We are 4 adults who have enjoyed the The Fairways for a number of years. It is a lovely condo complex, with a wonderful private beach a short drive (approximately 5 min) away and a nice pool. This was our first stay in this particular condo and we were very pleased with the decor, the kitchen pantry (lots of spices, vinegar and oils, etc.) and the bed and bedding; they were very comfortable! Also, it is well-appointed with many beach accessories (chairs, umbrella, snorkeling equipment, etc.). We enjoyed all of this!
Our rating of three stars is based on a few problems we encountered. We hope at this writing (we stayed mid-February-first of March) that these have been addressed. The ceiling fan in the second bedroom was inoperable and had not been replaced as has been noted in an earlier review. We appreciate that the owner allowed us to have control of the air conditioner. The patio door was missing the screen door, and one of the windows in the living room would not stay up on its own. Apparently the owner had not been notified of this from the previous renters nor the housekeeping staff. We were disappointed not to be able to open up the house, especially in the evening, to enjoy the breezes . The lights in the master bedroom came on unexpectedly at 3 a.m. This continued for 4 nights. The owner was helpful with this, and it was eventually fixed. The second bath upstairs did not have soap, shampoo or conditioner but the owner did replace through Amazon when notified. The propane ran out 4 nights before we were to leave. The second tank was also empty. We notified the owner and he offered to repay us if we were willing to get it filled. We opted not to and were fortunate that a neighbor let us use his tank.
We do appreciate the challenges there are in placing a home on VRBO and hope that the problems we encountered have been fixed. All in all we enjoyed The Big Island and are looking forward to returning!
Top notch accommodation and property!
This was our fourth trip to Mauna Lani and this was by far the best unit we have stayed in.
We were there from January 16 to February 15th. Mark,s attention to detail at every level was amazing. It is obvious he takes great pride in his unit and it was much appreciated. The pictures do not come close to show the quality and spaciousness of the townhome. The private beach club is outstanding. It is very sheltered with excellent snorkeling. We walked to the Shops at Mauna Lani for groceries at Foodland as well as several restaurants. We spent a night at Volcano Village. We got up at 5 AM and went to the Jaggar Museum overlook into the crater. There were only a half dozen people observing. It was a great time of day to be there. It was crystal clear, the sky was bright orange, and you could hear the rocks caving in to the lava. The noise was like distant thunder - incredible! It was the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend Mark's property. It will be our first choice when we return. Thanks Mark for a great vacation!
Doug and his wife are wonderful folks, only wish I had the chance to meet them for coffee. They took wonderful care of our home and would recommend you rent to them if ever requested.
Nice condo, Privacy is questionable
Very well equipped home and very clean. Walking distance to grocery store and a great path along the beach. Just a little weird that the owner knows who was at the house and when by a video cameras. We had a small family of 5 and the neighbors came in the home on the last day before we had left and the owner knew and questioned me about it. I use Vrbo a lot and this was a very uncomfortable situation. Privacy is nice when your on vacation.
We do not have any cameras other than the RING door bell, which has been very helpful in protecting our guests, items, and our property. We are so sorry you did not like this valuable security device but we would not live without the RING door bell for our front door!
Nice unit in The Fairways
We were four adults who stayed through Christmas and New Years and enjoyed beautiful weather and the whales! We have stayed in this complex before and enjoyed the layout of this unit with both bedrooms being upstairs. Nice furnishings and lots of things to use in the kitchen. The grill on the lanai is great to use. Shampoo, conditioner, and laundry detergent are all provided along with beach chairs, umbrella, coolers, and one boogie board. The beach club pass is one of the best perks about staying at the Fairways. Pool was very cold this time of year, but hot tub was always hot. Easy to get to the pool through the cutout in the landscaping. It is much more busy than the summer and was hard to get lounge chairs. Complex needs to add more. We were allowed to leave our luggage on the last day to go to the beach as our flight was early evening and that was very appreciated.
Our only issue was the ceiling fan in the second bedroom was not working. The upstairs in general was warm, but it was very stuffy in that bedroom and bathroom. The a/c is programmed so we could not turn it down anymore to make it more comfortable. We contacted the manager early in our 11 night stay. We were told that maintenance would be out to look at it on two different days and it never happened. It was very disappointing. I would be concerned about staying if that issue is not addressed.
Aloha! So glad you had a good time in our home, we too felt bad about the fan being non functional in the guest bedroom, and so glad you notified us about this issue. Service Tech did come and look at this issue, a new fan was ordered, as the service folks could not repair it. The A/C is set not to go below 70 degrees, and not to run when doors are left open for long periods of time. This is all for for efficiency and reliability per the HVAC service team. We have had this A/C control system for 10 years and this is our first complaint about the A/C. We have looked at the history for the last 90 days and this unit is working admirably. If you would ever like to return we will make sure all ceiling fans are operational, and give you a free day in our home. Thank you again for staying in our Little Slice of Paradise.
Couldn’t be better!
Our condo was very comfortable, had lovely decor, and supplied to meet every need. We enjoyed the privacy, quiet, and convenience of walking to our families condos. Mark kept us well informed and was responsive to questions. I am going to recommend to friends.
There's a reason most of these reviews say the pictures don't do the condo justice! :) Mark's condo is fabulous and beautifully decorated; the picture of the dining room gives a bit of a hint of what the rest of the condo looks like, but just a hint. There are floor to ceiling curtains in every room. Including the master bedroom which has floor to ceiling curtains on the patio and window (the curtains match the burgundy accent wall). The master bedroom has a wonderfully comfortable bed with a Tommy Bahama comforter and hundreds of pillows (okay, not hundreds, but probably ten.) The living room has a reclining chair and sofa bed along with the tall center piece shown in one of the pictures. By the way, that corner piece is taller than my husband (6 feet) and probably 5 feet in length. The kitchen is equipped with every utensil imaginable, even a rice cooker. In short, the condo is exquisitely decorated (probably professionally) and absolutely FABULOUS. (Forgot to mention, fully stocked with paper towels, tp, hand soap, dish soap and laundry soap. We were here two weeks and didn't buy any of those. The pantries are completely stocked.) And, Mauna Lani? again, FABULOUS. There's a foot path through the patio hedge which leads you to the pool - you're there in a matter of seconds. We were in the pool every day and usually had the pool to ourselves. The beach provides the best snorkeling on the island and there's a black sand beach exactly six minutes from the condo which you have to see to appreciate - it's breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite town was Waimea just to the north and east about 10 miles from the condo. They have a farmer's market on Saturday and Wednesday and several interesting restaurants. Sunset horseback riding and the north valley overlooks along with Volcano National Park are not to be missed. Thank you, Mark!!!!! If I could give your condo six stars, I would!!
January thru April are fantastic times for whale watching in Hawaii...
Any time of year is fabulous for golfing, hiking, snorkeling, or just relaxing at the beach!
