South Laguna House Rental Photos and Description

3 bed+den 2.5 ba. Studio can be rented separately. Sleepts 8-10

You will find all the luxuries of vacationing without having to sacrifice the comforts of home in this breath-taking, 3,000 square foot, Laguna Beach house. Up on a bluff just 40 yards from the sand, watch the waves, surf and sand, or the beautiful sunsets and over 180 degree view. Better yet, walk just 75 yards to the private beach access down to the sand of Tablerock beach. The living room is decorated with high-end Tommy Bahama furnishings and has a beautiful fireplace. Located off the beach-side of the famed Pacific Coast Highway, this home is conveniently located, however, part of its charm lies in the fact that it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Wrap-around balconies, with spectacular views, on the second and third floors will enhance your vacation experience. Here you can sit back in the deck chairs with cup of coffee or a cocktail and watch the waves crash and keep an eye out for whales and dolphins that frequently visit the cove. Famous restaurants are within walking distance, however, the fully equipped gourmet kitchen make leaving unnecessary.

The kitchen features a cooktop, double Thermador ovens, coffee maker, cappucino maker, waffle iron, panini maker and any other gadget you may be in need of. If you would rather cook outside, the balcony features a bbq. There is also a wet bar equipped with an ice maker, wine fridge, and all of the glassware to create mouth-watering cocktails and mixed drinks.

During the summer, there is a life guard station right on Tablerock Beach. Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary beach toys and chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear, picnic baskets and umbrellas. Should you decide to stay in, you can curl up next to the fireplace and watch DirectTV's premium programming with all of the movie channels as well as high speed wireless internet, board games, DVDs and puzzles.

This is a great home for a family or multiple families, since, in addition to the two bedrooms with queen beds, there is also a tranquil spa-like master suite featuring a Cal king bed, sitting area overlooking the ocean, oversized tub with large window that overlooks the ocean, glass shower with dual shower heads and a 'rainfall' feature, a walk-in closet and a fireplace. There is a separate den (bedroom) right off of the master which has a trundle bed making into 2 twins, or one queen bed.

In addition to the spacious top floors, the bottom floor, which rents separately, features a private studio apartment with a kitchenette, dining area, bathroom, trundle bed, private entry and patio, and provides an additional 565 square feet. This house sleeps 8 comfortably (not including studio), and there are additional air mattresses available. Parking at the beach will not be a problem, as there are 4 dedicated parking spaces. Our guests always state that the pictures don't do our property justice. We are very confident that after you take your first trip to Secret Cove, you will make it a tradition to come back year after year!

About Jim Martindale

Jim Martindale is the president of Martindale Commercial Real Estate, Inc. in Glendora. His dream has always been to have a home at the beach, and feels this is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Jim Martindale purchased this house in 2010

Why Jim Martindale chose Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach has often been described as one of the most incredible beaches in the world by reviewers from publications such as Cigar Aficionado and Men's Journal. When a home became available in Laguna right off of the famous Pacific Coast Highway, my wife and I jumped at the opportunity to own a home in this dream location.

What makes this house unique

Our home is located literally steps from a beautiful secluded beach. Nothing beats waking up in the morning and watching crashing waves while enjoying a cup of coffee on the balcony. The free local tram service has a stop at the top of the street and has multiple drop off points which take you into the heart of Laguna. If you prefer to walk, it is a short stroll to art galleries, boutique shops, and fabulous restaurants. The grocery store is also very nearby so stocking the fridge or sneaking out for a bottle of wine when the mood hits is always convenient. There are also some wonderful public beaches that are accessible via the downtown area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

When we first arrived we were overwhelmed by the amazing views that both the second and third stories had. It drove us to head to the beach right away. We walked down to the private access and had the beach almost to ourselves. The pictures we took on the rocky cliffs were so breathtaking we used them as our family's Christmas card.

The house was large but felt cozy, like a home away from home and had everything we needed including beach equipment and a stocked kitchen. It was a perfect getaway in every respect and worth every penny!

Family time at resort-like home

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing home! My husband and I stayed here with our two children for a perfect getaway. As soon as we walked in we fell in love with the impressive decor that gives the home a resort feel. The best of both worlds!! The kitchen was well equipped and the family room provided us with amazing views. The bedrooms for the kids were perfect, but the real treat is the master suite!! We have stayed at many resort properties and none have equaled the master suite in this home! Even the tub in the master bath has expansive ocean views!! After enjoying brunch at the Montage it felt nice to come back to the stunning views and comfort of this home. The private beach was perfect for family time and we recommend all this home has to offer to those blessed to vacation here.

Rest and recuperate

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here to get away and recover after the death of his mother. It was just what the doctor ordered. This home is beautifully furnished, while being comfortable and welcoming. There are beautiful views of the beach and we enjoyed watching the sun go down from the balcony. The beach was uncrowded and good for swimming. Coyote Grill (a 5 minute walk away) was recommended as a good place to eat. BEST CALAMARI TACOS EVER! We also enjoyed shopping in downtown Laguna. All in all, it was a wonderful getaway!

secret cove ocean estate

On the website this home is awesome. However, upon our arrival we were disappointed by the condition of the home -- it was not clean in many of the home areas. Window in living room was cloudy so made the atmosphere less than acceptable; outside sitting areas were very unkept; garage was unusable because of furniture left in it and because the dryer was vented into the garage. We did not have access to the internet the entire visit--called and asked that it be fixed but it never worked. Closets in bedrooms were packed with 'stuff' so were unusable by us. Dishwasher did not clean dishes. The beach is not family friendly and I would not recommend it for children or older adults. We had beautiful weather while in Laguna but the home definately was lacking for our families.

Owner's Response: This is a review that you never want to have. After mostly 5 star reviews, it hurts. We pride ourselves with exceeding expectations, but sometimes you just can't please everyone. The fact is, the internet went down at the beginning of this guest's visit and Cox Communications gave a large window for the guest to stay at the house, which they opted not to do. I understand one does not want to be tied down, but the fact is, Cox needed interior access, which they were denied by the guest. The dishwasher was replaced two weeks prior to the guest's arrival with a brand new GE Profile dishwasher, so we still aren't sure why it didn't clean dishes, as we haven't had any complaints since. The furniture in the garage was placed there because we put in new living room furniture just prior to the guest's arrival. We are saddened, and humbled, by this review and want to re-examine all our practices, as we realize we are responsible, in many ways, for our guest's experience, and quality of their vacation. And we want it to be the best possible!

Great property

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with my GF, 1 other couple and our service animals. We had a great time at the property as it had a great view and it was right next to the beach. Jim the property owner was very helpful and responsive when trying to book the property. I accidentally left my table at the house he got back to me immediately and shipped it back . Thanks again Jim :D We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place to say in Laguna.

Perfect gathering place for our get away

  • 5 of 5

We rented for a get away for 12 people and three families. Our kids were varying ages. The house was clean, well appointed, and had plenty of parking. There were games and movies which we enjoyed. The view is spectacular, really breathe taking. The kitchen was perfect for cooking for our group. Plenty of spices and the basics made it easy. Other houses I have rented in the past have had much less. There was a pool table in the garage that the older kids enjoyed. The bar-b-q was convent and used many times. The owner was easy to contact, left useful reading material in the house and had open communication for questions. The beach you can walk to has very steep stairs but is lovely and cool for climbing on the rocks, checking out crabs and the like. Not great for swimming for little ones but we just drove down the road. Plenty of towels both for the beach and linens for the house. The owners have clearly thought out what guests enjoy for a having a relaxing vacation.

Perfect for Large Family Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a beach vacation spot that would allow us to host our elderly parents, keep our young children (ages 4 and 1), entertained, fed, and napped, and also entertain various groups of aunts, uncles, and cousins. This house worked perfectly in a lot of ways.

1) The views were breathtaking, especially from the master. This place is very well-located for panoramic views, close enough for the full sounds and smells of the ocean to fill the house, and on a very quiet side street with no noise pollution at all.

2) The layout worked wonderfully for us. We had separate bedrooms to put the children for naps and still carry on the party on the main floor at full volume.

3) The kitchen/dining situation easily accommodated our large group. We were able to cook all our meals here--sometimes for as many as 11 people at a sitting--without any trouble. There was a second dining table that we set up, and plenty of place settings for our group. The one major difficulty we had was with kitchen utensils and knives. I wish I had simply gone to Target and spent $50 on some supplements, as these items were past their useful lifespan and should be updated. However, the kitchen was well-supplied with appliances, and we used them all (cappucino maker, toaster, blender, microwave, etc).

4) The furnishings were fabulous. Chairs, sofas, beds, and linens and decorations were all aesthetically pleasing (big step up from typical hotel furnishings) and also very comfortable. In particular, the master bedroom suite was a pleasing oasis.

5) Our host was very helpful. After learning that we'd need a playpen to sleep our 1 year old, he supplied a top notch one and installed a baby gate (essential) before our arrival. This was very appreciated.

6) Beach access was incredible. We used the "private beach" only once, as it was onerous to carry the baby down the long stairs and we had elderly folks with us. But Aliso Beach (1 mile away) was awesome with easy parking.

I only have a two small nits to pick:

1) I think the "fifth bedroom," which is really a study outside the master suite should have blackout shades and a ceiling fan installed. We put the baby in this room and had to drape blankets over the windows to cut the light. This made the room very hot and did not work to black out the room. So this room is not fully functional as a bedroom, in my opinion.

2) The aforementioned kitchen utensil and knife shortage.

Overall an A+ vacation spot.
