Mountain Serenity - Near Vallecito Lake-Home Comforts in the Mountains! The calendar is kept up-to-date, so choose your time to come enjoy our peaceful mountain retreat in the mountain valley on the north side of Vallecito lake near Vallecito Creek and the village of Vallecito, Colorado. Plenty of room with 3,000 square feet. Sit in front of the roaring fireplace or by the warm wood-burning stove while planning your choice of fun activities. Vallecito Lake is one of Colorado's largest and most beautiful lakes. Vallecito (pronounced 'vy-ya-see-toe') is only 23 miles northeast of Durango. The beautiful recreational area offers year-round enjoyment for the entire family.

The home is well furnished with delightful rustic mountain decor and charming antiques. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and there is a large dining table for great family meals. Games and puzzles are provided, as well as informational brochures about local points of interest and activities. There are 4 bedrooms with beds for 10 (1 king, 2 queens and 2 fulls) and 2 bathrooms. If you just can’t leave the modern world behind, high-speed wireless internet and Direct TV are provided free of charge. Cell phone coverage is strong.

Vallecito means “little valley”, and, as the name suggests, the village of Vallecito is nestled between two mountain ridges on the shores of Vallecito Lake. Vallecito has several eateries and small stores. The Pine (Piños) and Vallecito Rivers flow from the Weminuche Wilderness into Vallecito Lake.

The mountain and lake scenery is stunning. Grimes Creek and the Vallecito River are ¼ mile away from the house, and Vallecito Lake is a 1/2 mile to the south. Great fishing can be found at the lake, Pine (Pinos) River & Vallecito River, as well as many local streams. Access to the lake is free and open to recreation of all types. You can even rent a pontoon boat & fishing gear at one of the two local Marinas. Fishing is excellent with many game fish including Trout, Salmon, and Northern Pike.

If four-wheeling is your thing, there are miles & miles of off road trails to explore. You will find even more miles of hiking trails following our two rivers into the San Juan National Forest and the Weminuche Wilderness with over 2.5 million acres of public lands with many 13,000+ and 14,000+ peaks that you can explore.

Ride the '1880's' Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, or visit Mesa Verde Anasazi Ruins, visit Silverton’s Mining Town, or soak in the healing hot water in Pagosa Springs, shop or see a movie in historic Durango. Enjoy a day in the quaint town of Ouray, America’s Little Switzerland, or spend a relaxing summer evening at the Bar-D Chuckwagon supper and show. There are excellent golf courses, numerous museums and of course... the scenic million dollar highway.

There are just as many winter activities such as Snowmobiling, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing Downhill/Alpine/Nordic Skiing or a Dinner Sleigh Ride at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory) and nearby ski areas. The house is not “ski-in/ski-out”. The house is about 1 hour from Durango Mountain Resort and 1 ½ hours from Wolf Creek Ski Resort.

We think our mountain home is a peaceful refuge from our busy world. We’re sure you’ll agree!

About The Owner

We honeymooned in the Durango area 20 years ago and have been in love with the area every since. Our three kids love the mountains year round, too. We enjoy the winters with skiing and snowboarding by day and puzzles, hot chocolate and roaring fires by night! The summers are spent hiking, biking and enjoying the beauty of the mountains as much as possible!

Why The Owner chose Southwestern Colorado

When we started looking for vacation homes in the area, this is the first house we looked at and it was love at first sight! The house has unique charm and character. In addition, the setting is so picturesque! Waking up to the beautiful mountains is an awesome way to start the day. We love that the hiking trails, rivers and lake are so close.

What makes this house unique

Staying here is peaceful and relaxing. The property does not feel like a rental - it feels like home. It is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of today's busy world! Plus, with 3,000 sqft, there is plenty of room to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Excellent home, excellent owners

  • 5 of 5

The home was perfect. It is very comfortable, well maintained and has anything you need. We stayed here with our family for a three day getaway over the Memorial Day weekend. The kitchen was fully stocked, and the owners had just brought up a new gas grill.

The location is great. The home is in a quiet subdivision on a large lot on the North end of the Lake. This is far enough from the main road, but close to Lake activities and markets, restaurants, etc. There is lots of grass and areas for the kids to explore outside. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck. In the evenings, we would have a fire in the wonderful den.

Kent was great to work with. He answered all my questions promptly and was very responsive. Kent and Anita are experienced owners that are a joy to rent from.

We had a great time at this house. It was comfortable, modern, very well stocked with kitchen supplies etc, had good wifi and TV service, and was in a quiet neighborhood. The owners were very helpful with suggestions for places to see, etc. Excellent base for an outdoors vacation.
