I purchased the property in 1999 and have remodeled the unit over the years. There is no way to improve upon the location and view. You will agree.

The most beautiful setting on earth. Views and climate will have you enjoying every minute of your stay. Beach access and 2 swimming pools will satisfy your hydrotherapy. Kaua'i has the most miles of shoreline of all the Hawaiian Islands. Most are secluded and easy to access.
Sundry shop, Peter Burwash Tennis and Pro Shop, exercise and guest hospitality rooms. Lava rock pool with new pool furniture waterfalls, and views of Hanalei Bay will provide you with the relaxation you can only find at Hanalei Bay Resort. Happy Talk bar has reopened serving numerous ice cold beers on tap and a full menu.
Much of my life is tied up with the island of Kaua'i, and having come to know it so well over the last several decades, I think there's no better place there than that occupied by Hanalei Bay Resort. In searching for the completely perfect location to film South Pacific -- the iconic motion picture that put "location" to Michener's story -- it's hardly an accident that Josh Logan, its director, chose the very spot upon which Hanalei Bay Resort sits. And Units #1303 and #1304, either separately or together, boast the ex- act same view that Logan had in mind when he staged "Some Enchanted Evening" for the film. Everything about the place works beautifully for me -- its location, the won- derful ambiance that the Hawaiians call "'ohana," and more than anything, the memo- ries and the magic. When I don't feel like strolling those paths down to the beach that lies at the mouth of the Hanalei River, there's the magnificent pool area, fed by water- falls both warm and cool. In a perfect world, there would be no need to dream of this wonderful place, since it would already exist everywhere. But I'm just glad that HBR is available -- and #1303-1304 are positioned perfectly to capture what I have come to love about Kaua'i...

My husband and I loved our week long stay in this lovely studio condo in an fantastic resort. The views from the bed and the lanai were breathtaking. We spent many hours staring at the ocean and counting the waterfalls on the mountains. Every time we looked out we commented on how absolutely perfect the view was from this unit. The beach down the hill was lovely, the pool was fantastic, The Happy Talk Bar was great, the location on the north shore was perfect. We loved having the small kitchen area so that we did not have to eat out for every meal. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more. There were four different guidebooks in the room about Kauai. We especially liked the guidebook specific to snorkeling and the one on Kauai farm to table restaurants. In addition, all the extras that you can't pack and take on a plane for the beach (chairs, coolers, etc) were in the room. The bed was so comfortable that we did not even miss our bed at home which is unusual for us. Everyone at the resort was kind and full of Aloha. Our transaction and experience with the owner, David, was seamless. He was very responsive and helpful. Even though we still had another week of vacation on Maui after we left here, we were very sad to leave this special place. We will definitively stay here again when visiting Kauai!
My wife and I recently returned from a 9 day stay in unit 1303.
The view from the terrace was spectacular.
The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained.
The staff were attentive and helpful.
Kauai is truly a paradise.
Nothing really terrible.
The unit is listed as having a kitchenette but there is no kitchen sink. Consequently you find yourself washing dishes in the bathroom sink. Unpleasant and inconvenient to say the least.
There were no cereal bowls, requiring improvisation with a large glass bowl and a jar.
As much as we liked the location and the unit itself the sink issue would keep us from returning to this particular rental.

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the unit. The view was amazing and David was great to work with. His responses were quick and all details provided. As a Canadian, I was a little hesitant to send a money order by mail. No worries there, the transaction was seamless. The restaurant and bar were just wrapping up construction while we were there but it will really be a great addition to the property. Highly recommended.
We had a great stay with our 8 month old son. Great facilities in the room, with a very helpful host who supplied us with some tips and even some of his left over groceries! Can't beat the view and being close to reception and the pool are an added bonus. Don't forget to utilise the BBQ's down by the tennis pro shop.
We've stayed in other privately owned units at Hanalie Bay Resort before but none compare to in beauty or comfort to these two units and the value is unbelievable.
We were concerned we would hear car alarms and such being so close to the parking but didn't hear a thing and slept sound every night.
Both beds were super comfortable. They were so comfortable that I have been online looking at new mattress for our home.
The staff is amazing; always cheerful, helpful and personal, including the attendants who drive the cart, ladies who check us in and out, concierge, gardeners and housekeeping.
I can also attests to the fact that I had a first hand comparison on this trip because Delta sent a smaller plane the night we were to fly out and I got bumped. In fact, 26 other people got bumped too. All worked out though; they set me up in a room in another resort for 24 hours. Although it is very nice resort it doesn't even begin to compare to Hanalie Bay Resort.
The people were polite and said all the right things and helpful. But they were superficial or seemed to do it because it was a job, a routine to them that has been rehearsed and rehearsed well. At Hanalie Bay the employees must give freedom to be themselves or maybe the board of directors set a personable, genuine example for them to follow. I'm not sure how it occurs but there is a different "spirit" at Hanalie Bay Resort. It is the spirit of the island. It is at Hanalie Bay Resort but not at all resorts.
There is more to Hanalie Bay Resort than the view or even comfortable bed. It is hard to describe you must experience it for yourself.
We just returned from 10 days in Kauai, and we could not have asked for a better unit to stay in. I can't explain how awesome it was waking up every morning to the view of the bay and mountains. The unit was good sized, and had everything we needed. I especially liked having a washer/dryer, and a closet full of beach gear. The pool was refreshing and gorgeous, and never crowded. The grounds were lush and beautifully landscaped with every kind of tropical plant and flower you could imagine. Working with Dave was easy and seamless, and I felt comfortable with all of our communications and transactions.
Our one complaint is that there was construction going on right outside of our unit (on the restaurant/lounge), and it would get really loud at times. One day they were cutting concrete with a big concrete saw, and it was too loud for us to even be in our unit on that day. We would probably hesitate to go back until we were sure that the construction was completed. (From what we understand, the rebuilding of the restaurant has taken several years). There is also a swim up bar being built at the pool, but we never saw anyone working on it. When these projects are completed, one would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful resort in a more beautiful setting. we just hope it's sooner than later.
