I purchased the property in 1999 and have remodeled the unit over the years. There is no way to improve upon the location and view. You will agree.
David Blank purchased this studio in 1999
The most beautiful setting on earth. Views and climate will have you enjoying every minute of your stay. Beach access and 2 swimming pools will satisfy your hydrotherapy. Kaua'i has the most miles of shoreline of all the Hawaiian Islands. Most are secluded and easy to access.
Sundry shop, Peter Burwash Tennis and Pro Shop, exercise and guest hospitality rooms. Lava rock pool with new pool furniture waterfalls, and views of Hanalei Bay will provide you with the relaxation you can only find at Hanalei Bay Resort. Happy Talk bar has reopened serving numerous ice cold beers on tap and a full menu.
Much of my life is tied up with the island of Kaua'i, and having come to know it so well over the last several decades, I think there's no better place there than that occupied by Hanalei Bay Resort. In searching for the completely perfect location to film South Pacific -- the iconic motion picture that put "location" to Michener's story -- it's hardly an accident that Josh Logan, its director, chose the very spot upon which Hanalei Bay Resort sits. And Units #1303 and #1304, either separately or together, boast the ex- act same view that Logan had in mind when he staged "Some Enchanted Evening" for the film. Everything about the place works beautifully for me -- its location, the won- derful ambiance that the Hawaiians call "'ohana," and more than anything, the memo- ries and the magic. When I don't feel like strolling those paths down to the beach that lies at the mouth of the Hanalei River, there's the magnificent pool area, fed by water- falls both warm and cool. In a perfect world, there would be no need to dream of this wonderful place, since it would already exist everywhere. But I'm just glad that HBR is available -- and #1303-1304 are positioned perfectly to capture what I have come to love about Kaua'i...

The unit was as expected and good value for the money. The view from the unit is absolutely incredible. Kitchen is small, but functional and had what we needed to make our meals on a regular basis. Bathroom is quite large which was nice. The grounds are also very beautiful and very well taken care of. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Bar has live music every night and we could hear it from our lanai (a plus in our opinion), but it was not too loud (our baby/toddler slept through it no problem). We would stay at HBR again.
The owner has two suites, I rented the smaller one for ten days. It's essentially a hotel room with a large bathroom and small deck .
The owner was a pleasure to deal with. He responded promptly, and provided handouts with useful information. I felt that if there had been any glitches he would have stepped up to make things right.
The staff was very gracious.
The view is beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous and well-maintained, the pool, built to feel like you're swimming in a mountain pool, is wonderful, there are several tennis courts, and whether you walk or call for a ride down to the beach, it's just minutes away.
The studio is attractively decorated and very well-maintained. The bed is super comfortable, there's wi-fi, a nice TV, DVD player and soundbar. You have a private little deck with perfect Kauai views.
The back stairs are adjacent to the parking lot, allowing easy access to your car. (The grounds are sprawling; most other units require a golf cart ride to and from.)
The unit's location means it also is adjacent to the building in which the open air front desk and bar are located. Every night from 6-9 pm there is live music in the bar. I liked the music, but would have preferred to choose whether or not I listened to it on a given evening; I heard every single note from the moment they tuned up til their last applause, as if I were in the bar, myself. Sounds of clinking glasses and socializing also drifted over. Sometimes a rowdier group was so loud I could hear entire conversations.
The bar's kitchen kept its side door open, I could have tossed a ball to someone in the kitchen from my balcony. I could hear kitchen and food prep noise inside the unit, and when the wind shifted, the apartment was filled with the smell of cooking bacon, fish...
The unit has a small food prep counter, several plates, glasses/cups/ silverware, a coffee pot, microwave and a college dorm sized refrigerator. That's the full extent of the food prep capacity.
I was disappointed to find that the resort's restaurant was closed for construction during my stay.
If you are out and about in the evening proximity to the bar won't be an issued. I was more inclined to play hard during the day and hoped for quiet in the evening.
My husband and I stayed in unit 1303 while our son, daughter-in-law and thier little girl stayed in 1304. It was nice having the adjoining rooms! The units were wonderful, comfortable, and clean with everything we needed in kitchenette area, along with "extras" in the closet such as sun umbrella, chairs, small cooler, etc! The view is spectacular and location PERFECT! It was convenient being so close to the pool, the reception and gift shop area, the parking area (NO noise or unsightly view) and the Happy Talk lounge! Although the restaurant was still under construction, the Happy Talk provided delicious food, great entertainment and a beautiful view overlooking the water features, breath taking grounds, pool, ocean and mountains in the background! We flew a kite with our granddaughter in a big open grassy area not too far from the tennis courts one evening. Along with such affordable and lovely accommodations, David provided great communication and ease of the transaction from start to finish. We feel he went "over and above" with fair pricing and timely, informative communication! We can't wait until we are able to experience Kauai again and hope to stay in this very same unit at Hanalei Bay Resort!
My husband and I loved our week long stay in this lovely studio condo in an fantastic resort. The views from the bed and the lanai were breathtaking. We spent many hours staring at the ocean and counting the waterfalls on the mountains. Every time we looked out we commented on how absolutely perfect the view was from this unit. The beach down the hill was lovely, the pool was fantastic, The Happy Talk Bar was great, the location on the north shore was perfect. We loved having the small kitchen area so that we did not have to eat out for every meal. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more. There were four different guidebooks in the room about Kauai. We especially liked the guidebook specific to snorkeling and the one on Kauai farm to table restaurants. In addition, all the extras that you can't pack and take on a plane for the beach (chairs, coolers, etc) were in the room. The bed was so comfortable that we did not even miss our bed at home which is unusual for us. Everyone at the resort was kind and full of Aloha. Our transaction and experience with the owner, David, was seamless. He was very responsive and helpful. Even though we still had another week of vacation on Maui after we left here, we were very sad to leave this special place. We will definitively stay here again when visiting Kauai!
My wife and I recently returned from a 9 day stay in unit 1303.
The view from the terrace was spectacular.
The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained.
The staff were attentive and helpful.
Kauai is truly a paradise.
Nothing really terrible.
The unit is listed as having a kitchenette but there is no kitchen sink. Consequently you find yourself washing dishes in the bathroom sink. Unpleasant and inconvenient to say the least.
There were no cereal bowls, requiring improvisation with a large glass bowl and a jar.
As much as we liked the location and the unit itself the sink issue would keep us from returning to this particular rental.

My husband and I had a fantastic time at the unit. The view was amazing and David was great to work with. His responses were quick and all details provided. As a Canadian, I was a little hesitant to send a money order by mail. No worries there, the transaction was seamless. The restaurant and bar were just wrapping up construction while we were there but it will really be a great addition to the property. Highly recommended.
