Arrived on Caye Caulker in 1999, youngish and clueless! Loved it and over time (10 years) managed to buy the land, build the first home, and generally get my act together. This laid back village made me feel welcome and now live here all year - just across the street from this property and able to help out with anything you might need at any time! I try not to get in your way - but feel free to holler!
Amanda purchased this villa in 2001
Who could say no to this perfect island mere moments from the second largest reef in the world and all that has to offer? No cars, sandy streets, relaxed folk! Perfect!
Caye Caulker is a perfect combination of laid back beach style village life, but now offers all kinds of amenities too! There are many stores, restaurants, bars, tour operators. With all the sea has to offer, and that amazing climate, there is nothing difficult in making that decision about coming to stay!
There were 8 people that stayed for 2 weeks at Amanda's Place and everyone had a good time and enjoyed the hospitality of the island. Actually one couple ended up adopting a little dog from the shelter who had a tough journey in his life. Amanda was real helpful in expediting his trip back to the states. Amanda was real helpful with any other questions or needs that we had. The two weeks went fast but was pleasant for the most part. The pool was a plus too. We all spent a lot of time around there.
The only negative things that we noticed was the noise late at night since her place was right on the street. The blinds in the bedrooms really didn't block out the light from the streets. Could use a little updating of kitchen pots and pans. Overall, the place was enjoyable and we would stay there again.
We are now on day nine of our ten day stay at Amanda's place, started out with 13 of us using all the rooms, now down to using the house, as some have had to return to work. It has been by far one of the best places we have ever stayed. Amanda is exceptional on answering any questions about what to do, or where to eat on the island. She has also done everything she could do to make this vacation a very pleasurable one! Thank You. The Rector Clan. Illinois
A group of 7of us went to Belize to celebrate our 40th birthdays this year. My husband and I have been to the island many times and stayed at a different property each time. This was our second stay at Amanda's Place and we had just as much fun this time as we did on our previous stay. We actually booked the house and two apartments since we had a large group. The pool is new since we stayed here last and even though the weather didn't cooperate fully we completely enjoyed laying out around the pool and a few of us even braved the chill to get in. Mario's Tours is right next door, which is a plus for us since we have always used Mario to set up our outings. We went snorkeling 3-4 times in the week + we were there as well as some great day trips out to see the manatee and sea turtles. You also can't go wrong with taking time to walk the island and kayaking north of the split. The porch is great to relax on and we spent many late afternoons reading and relaxing. Amanda is a GREAT host. We had one person celebrating a birthday while we were there and she helped us find the lady on the island who makes cakes. We had a small plumbing problem while we were there and it was taken care of immediately, which is exactly what one expects when the inevitable happens. Any questions we had were answered by Amanda and she even let us overflow the pool after it stopped raining!!!!
We love staying here and would stay here every time if it was available every time we went to the island. We are planning our next trip and trying to decide where we are going and you can be sure if we are going to Belize we are going to stay here!
Amanda's Casita was perfect for us and perfect for Caye Caulker. Casual environment, clean and well kept, with all the necessities and at a great price. I highly recommend this! And Amanda is great - helpful and knowledgeable. Would stay here again!
We've been home just over a week - can't wait to go back!! 1st - Amanda is amazing! From our first inquiry she has been so helpful. We exchanged several emails asking every little question we could think of and she would answer right away. The home is wonderful - 3 couples and more than enough space for all. Although the kitchen is fully supplied, we only used it to make coffee and store our beer! There were way too many wonderful places to eat out every meal, with prices being pretty affordable, from breakfast, snacks to wonderful dinners. We spent time every day around the pool/patio/rooftop. There was plenty to do-if you wanted to- or nothing to do, which my husband wanted. It was great fun people watching from the porch, plus the beer wagon drives by every morning and you just wave it down and buy! Couldn't be easier! Air conditioners in the bedrooms made the rooms really comfortable for sleeping. Best times were just walking around the island, checking out the food and people. Loved Habenero's and Rose's and Caulker Pizza- stay away from Jolly Rogers! Local band played at the Sport's Bar and it was really fun.Lots of dogs running around, but all just seemed to want to play and be loved. Wanted to take them all home tho. Got to spend some great time in conversation with the neighbors - really interesting people. We've been to several small islands, looking for the perfect place with character, good food, friendly people, things to do or equally content doing nothing. I can honestly say that Caye Caulker has it all. And Amanda and her Casita were a huge part of it all. Definitely recommend this rental ( BUT I better be able to have my house back when I'm ready for it. Hope it doesn't get too popular!) Thanks so much Amanda - and Scrumpy!
My husband, my son, his wife and myself stayed at the lovely Casita for 5 days the first of June, 2010. Everything was just what we were expecting or much better. Amanda was extremely helpful. Caye Caulker is a wonderful place, and you can bet we want to return. We loved the Rainbow Bar and Grill along with several other places. The pool was a delightful place to cool off. Our biggest gripe was, "NOT ENOUGH time"!!!

Caye Caulker is tiny! It is about 2 miles long, about a mile at the bottom wide and at the top a mere couple of hundred feet. It is the shape of a comma. The main part of the island is the central to north sections, where the hotels, private homes, grocery stores, restaurants and bars are. There are plenty of them all. There are no brand name shops here, just small individual ones. The reef is 1/2 mile offshore to the east and provides most of the 'what to do's'. Snorkel, fish, swim, jet ski, water ski, kayak etc are all here. The water is shallow by shore and only about 15 feet by the reef. The calm waters provide excellent breeding grounds for the lobster and conch. Lazy days are to be expected, and rightly so! There is always something to do, and mainland trips to the Mayan ruins, the jungle, the cave systems and baboon and jaguar sanctuaries are easy to sort out too!
