Willits House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Family Room, Sleeping Porch, Sleeps 10+

Super Private Custom Built Home on 388 acres.

This is a one-of-a-kind vacation rental because of the level of privacy and the large piece of property that is exclusively yours to use and explore. You will have the entire property (388 acres) all to yourself to enjoy. The house is a beautiful custom built home with hardwood cherry floors, two large redwood decks, four bedrooms and two baths, a family room, living room, dining room and is in one of the most beautiful locations that you can imagine. It is like renting a park without any other people. Located in the redwood belt you can enjoy miles of trails along cascading streams and little waterfalls that run through fern covered redwood forests. Fish or swim in the pond, bike or hike along the trails. Lay out in the hot tub at night and watch the stars in the crystal clear skies. The quietness of the property is truly amazing and is like nothing you will find anywhere else.

Have an undisturbed family reunion in one of the most beautiful pieces of property that you will ever visit.

The custom built house is only a little over ten years old and until recently was our home with many homelike qualities. There is a large play set for the children and a gas barbeque for entertaining. A beautiful creek runs past the front of the house and two ponds are on the property. One of the ponds is only 100 feet from the house. There are numerous species of wildlife including hawks, owls, pond turtles, river otters, and great blue herons to name a few.

There are two decks, one is covered and faces the pond and the other faces a meadow with 250 year old oak trees. The kids can pitch a tent in the adjacent meadows and explore the forests and creeks while you lay in the hammock among the oak trees.

This rental is as close to a wilderness adventure as you can get without actually having to rough it.

Additional photos available upon request.

Holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day Fourth of July etc) are charged at normal summer rates.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Art and Muaureen,

Today is Blair's birthday and I rented your home as a gift to him. We couldn't ask for anything better! No sooner did Leta leave than Blair was at the pond reeling in his first fish. That was yesterday. Want to guess where he is now, 30 hours later? At the pond! Your home and its surroundings are spectacular! Leaving is going to be difficult as we feel we've discovered paradise!

Sincerely,

The Edwards

A fantastic place to unplug and unwind

  • 5 of 5

This house was the perfect place to get away from it all! During our 10 days, we had 4-12 people (ages 4 to 60+) and 3 dogs, and we never felt crowded. The house had everything we needed, including the entire Outer Limits and Twilight Zone series on VHS, a well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, a washer and dryer, and a beautiful claw foot tub.

The best part of the property was outside though. The play set in the back yard was fun for the little kids, especially with the hammock nearby, the stream that runs through the property was beautiful and so fun to explore. The trails that led up the mountain were wild enough to feel like an adventure, but pretty easy to navigate. My dogs came back from our first hike covered in ticks, but fortunately, a quick run into town for tick shampoo and advice helped us keep them mostly tick free the rest of the trip!

The favorite feature for our family and guests however, was the pond. We swam, and used the rope swing and diving log. We caught crawdads and a turtle, a newt, and fish, we floated around, and swam some more. The 6 year old said the little fishes nibbled on her toes, just like a fancy pedicure!

When we needed to re-supply, we found the town of Willits absolutely charming (I highly recommend sandwiches at the Loose Caboose, the used bookstore, chocolates from Starchild, and the Skunk Train).

I think, more than anything, I loved how we could just let the kids and the dogs roam. It felt like a real, old fashioned summertime! My 6 and 12 year old got dirty, explored, adventured, and didn't even miss their electronics (much)! This really was a beautiful place to escape the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives.

A Rejuvenation Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I were fortunate enough to enjoy this beautiful home and it's surroundings. We were looking for a place to get away from any town noises and this home was extremely peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the great hiking trails the property has to offer, relaxed on the porch and read in the mornings, cooked some great meals and sat in the jacuzzi under a sky full of stars.

Art was very accommodating and we cannot wait to come back!

This is a fabulous get away!

  • 5 of 5

I felt so relaxed after 5 days here!! It's a beautiful piece of property. Our group hiked, there is an hiking actual loop - a few short sections required "bushwhacking" to get through. We also swam and fished in the pond.

The decks are lovely for hanging out as a group and it's also easy to find a quiet spot for a bit of solitude.

The kitchen is well stocked, plenty of tableware and kitchen equipment. It is helpful to know about the smallish refrigerator and freezer, especially for a bigger group, we had 11. Supplementing with coolers is helpful. It also took a bit to realize that some of the provided pans are deeper than the oven itself so the oven door did not completely close. Going to town to resupply is pretty easy considering how wonderfully isolated I felt. It's true the road is rough in sections and some of our cars did better than others.

One thing I didn't see in the photos of the house is one of the bedrooms has a queen (or king I'm not sure) as well as 2 twins which worked perfectly for the family that came with a 4 and 6 year old.

The house was clean and well stocked with towels, etc. There were some extra outdoor supplies, we had a good time playing with a whiffle ball and bat.

Art is a gracious, responsive and helpful owner. I'd definitely recommend this property if this the kind of vacation you like.

If Being Disconnected/Getting Away Is Your Goal.....this is your place!

  • 5 of 5

A truly unique and wonderful experience for us at this fantastic home in the redwood belt! Art was both responsive on email and accommodating with requests....and we had our deposit back within days of returning home.

The pictures are accurate and our time there supported the reviews below....plenty of room to wander/close to town/as remote as you'll get for the price. So let me help prepare others that are lucky enough to choose to stay here:

The last piece of road to get to the property is a little rough/bumpy. Any normal vehicle will be able to negotiate the dips/grooves in the dirt road but if you have a car that is lowered in any way, think twice about bringing it as you might end up scraping.

The refrigerator/freezer IS small. Having an ice chest or 2 to store things is a great idea...if not a necessity if you're there with a large group or plan on staying longer than a couple of days.

The stove/oven are also small. We brought a couple of our own pans to cook in and only 2 at a time would fit on the burners. I believe the oven is a standard width but not as tall as a standard one. The Weber BBQ on the back porch worked fine for those that need an option. There are warnings on the microwave about using it at all due to it's use of electricity....we just unplugged it for our time there as we didn't need it.

We really limited our use of any appliances but the generator still comes a couple times during the day and at night for about 60-90 mins at a time (not sure why since we didn't have anything on at night). The house is well insulated so the noise wasn't a problem...even for those sleeping on the side of the house where the generator was. It can disrupt the quiet when you're outside but that's the price of living off the grid.

These are just tips that I think would be helpful to future visitors.....don't get me wrong, this place is AWESOME! We've stayed at plenty of VRBO homes and this is by far the most private/remote...the quiet and tranquility were just what we were after and this place has it in spades (esp since cell service is basically non-existent). So many paths to hike....town is just a 20 minute drive away.....or just chill in the hammock...or hot tub...or watch the turtles hanging out by the pond....or the lizards warming themselves on a rock....or say hi to the super friendly dog that apparently lives on another property and came wandering around one morning.

Thanks to Art for making this gem available!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the honest review. I just wanted to tell you that we discovered this week that someone had plugged the refrigerator in and switched it over to electrical ( it is suppose to stay on propane). Maybe the group before you had switched it. That is why the generator was coming on at night which definitely isn't normal. The generator was probably running a lot more than usual during the day as well because we never run the fridge with electricity as it is too much of a load on the system. Thanks again and glad you enjoyed your stay, Art

great spot!

  • 5 of 5

If willits isn't too far out of your way, this cabin is awesome! ! Secluded from everything with full privacy and enough property to keep you exploring for a week! The house is quite roomy and kept up very well. They have a nice hot tub (we used every night) and a pond that looks like during summer would be amazing to swim in! Would definitely recommend this property to others!

Beautiful house and surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

I just spent my birthday weekend here w/ my closest friends and our kids and dogs. There were 8 adults, 4 little kiddos, and 3 tiny dogs. There was plenty of room for us all, and we even got all the adults around the dining room table for a birthday dinner. The hot tub is full-size and got super hot. It was beautiful under the stars at night, surrounded by the woods. The kids loved looking at the salamanders and turtles in the pond, and of course they loved the play structure with swings and a slide. The yard and surroundings are amazing--you feel like you've been transported as you drive the dirt road up to the house. It's like driving through a rainforest. My friends loved it, and we were all sad to leave. We plan to return, for sure.

Of note, the property photos are totally accurate and the place was clean and well-maintained. It is "off the grid", so you have to be somewhat thoughtful about electricity usage (you can't have every appliance going at the same time), but we had no problems with it. The fridge is kind of small, so just be thoughtful about how much stuff you bring, or bring an extra cooler. The stove and oven are also petite, but we managed to cook an entire ham in the oven, and we cooked a big delicious indian dinner on the stovetop, too.
