Nestled in a canopy of Monterey oaks and pines, Dove Cottage provides a tranquil environment ideally located in the heart of Carmel-By-The-Sea. The craftsman cottage was built in 1931 as Carmel was becoming a popular destination for artists and writers from San Francisco, who spent their summers here. Upon entering you will be welcomed with a sophisticated but relaxed European ambiance. This is my second home, which is reflected in the fine furniture, French antiques and quality design throughout. Located within the desirable 'golden rectangle', it's only a short walk to shops, restaurants, art galleries and Carmel's silky white, sandy beaches.

As a designer I renovated Dove Cottage to offer all the modern amenities, while retaining the integrity of this historic artist's cottage which was built in 1931. At that time Carmel-By-The-Sea was frequented by writers and painters from San Francisco who spent their summers here. Dove Cottage is my second home and it retains a wonderful 'spirit of place'. I welcome you to my home and hope that your stay in Carmel is memorable.
How many great things can I say about Dove Cottage? I saw many lovely homes but the interiors were dated. As an interior designer I found Amy's home to be beautifully decorated and wonderfully equipped.
The location was extremely convenient to everything. It was as much of a pleasure to come "home" in the afternoon as it was to do the many wonderful things that we found to do. Amy was great to work with and we found all of her recommendations to be excellent.
We enjoyed Demetra restaurant, Porta Bella restaurant. and the brunch at Mission Ranch was awesome.
Monterey Bay Aquarium was well worth the 1/2 day spent there and if you have children....do not miss it.
Big Sur was very much my favorite and a great lunch at a small Lucia Lodge restaurant where you felt you were hanging on the cliff over the ocean! Amy's recommendation of Chateau Julien was a beautiful spot and we took the private tour and tasting. The Carmel Walking Tour was a last minute idea and we would have missed a lot of the local lore and meeting some of the local people where we were welcomed into their galleries, restaurants and shops. It was a well spent $25.00 per person.
I hope to be able to visit again and would definitely stay at Dove Cottage. Just wish I lived closer so I could come more often.
My fiancé and I chose Dove Cottage for a short break form our cold Minnesota winter, and were not disappointed. Just as lovely as pictured, the cottage has all the amenties you need, plus a great location--walking distance to town and the beach without all the hustle and bustle. We hope to return to Carmel and Dove Cottage in the near future!
Staying at the Dove Cottage was a highlight of our trip! We spend Christmas here and it was the perfect home to have family time. The location was perfect, we walked everywhere.
Amy was a joy to work with and I would stay in any of her properties if the opportunity arises!
My husband and I spent two nights at Dove Cottage with two of our California granddaughters (ages 9 and 11). We all LOVED Dove Cottage. We so enjoyed having coffee and hot chocolate in front of the fireplace in the morning, and wine (us!) and apple cider (the girls!) in the evening. The cottage is beautifully appointed - Amy seems to have thought of every tasteful detail in the decor, and the kitchen was well stocked with necessities. We walked to our restaurant the first night (definitely dark and no street lights - cell phone flash light worked great); drove the very short trip to the village for other meals, shopping, walking on the beach. We were minutes away from Point Lobos for hiking and the 17 mile drive. We all heartily recommend this charming cottage for a Carmel get away. It is really a pleasure to wake up in, and come back to after a day of enjoying Carmel ad the Monterey Peninsula.
My husband and I rented the Dove Cottage for 2 weeks. We enjoyed our time there. The cottage was very comfortable. I just had one problem there and that was with the owner's attitude. I couldn't get the tv in the front room to work. It has 2 controls and no instructions (how to turn on, change channels etc.). Since we were there for 2 weeks we wanted to use it. Amy told me if I have any questions not the hesitate to ask. So I did and what I got back from her was and I quote"how would I know, I'm 6 hours away and I've never had this problem before until now". Even if she didn't know that was not the way to handle it. Need I say more. I won't be renting again from her anytime soon.
Perfect retreat for myself and three girlfriends celebrating a special birthday. Plenty of room, charm, comfort and amenities. Walking distance to town, but wouldn't recommend walking back at night due to lack of street lights and sidewalks in Carmel. We used Uber for the return for about $5. Would like to bring my husband and perhaps another couple again soon!
In addition to the quaint village charm of the shops, restaurants, art galleries and beaches, which are only a short walk from Dove Cottage, you can enjoy scenic drives and choose from the 12 golf courses in the area. Experience the spectacular coastline of Big Sur, take a winery tour in Carmel Valley and visit Monterey, as they are all close by. Throughout the year Carmel hosts golf tournaments, jazz and other festivals, live theater and many interesting events.
